Chapter 6 - Now that you are married
After being taken away by the security guards, Su Mengyao kept trying to communicate with them.
She told the security guards that the guest staying in the presidential suite was suspected of illegal detention and intentional injury, but the security guards kept denying it.
They even pulled up the backend system and showed her that the room had always been occupied by Mr. Xu.
She demanded to see the surveillance footage and made a big fuss, which led to the police being called.
As long as the police accessed the surveillance footage, they would surely find evidence of Wen Zhao kidnapping Gu Xianting!
But when the police arrived and reviewed the footage, not a single second of the scenes Su Mengyao wanted to see appeared.
Before she could react, the hotel started holding her accountable.
She was accused of illegal trespassing and invading the privacy of the hotel’s guest. Mr. Xu even sued her, claiming he had lost a watch worth over ten million yuan.
In the end, she was taken back to the police station in handcuffs.
When the police questioned her about how she opened the room door, she couldn’t produce a room card, so she was deemed to have illegally entered.
In short, until her suspicion was cleared, she had to stay in the police station’s jail cell.
“System?” She called out to the system in her mind once again, but still received no response.
Her teeth unconsciously bit into her thumb’s nail. The system had previously said it wouldn’t appear again for another twenty-four hours.
She realized she couldn’t rely on the system. Unlike when Wen Zhao had her locked up, back then she had harbored hope, waiting to be rescued by Gu Xianting descending from the heavens.
But now, with Gu Xianting’s whereabouts unknown, if she waited here for him, who knows how long she would have to wait.
She had to save herself!
She immediately called for the police and indicated she needed to contact someone.
Completely unaware that he was no longer expected, Gu Xianting had his eyes covered at this moment.
It was very quiet around him, his hands were tied, and the other end of the rope was in Wen Zhao’s hand.
“Where are you taking me?” his voice was hoarse, yet very calm.
He had struggled, resisted, and argued, but all it did was make him more disheveled.
Wen Zhao was determined not to let him go.
“After getting married and dealing with necessary matters, the next step is, of course, to do something you once promised me,” Wen Zhao seemed to be in a very good mood, which was evident from her no longer indifferent tone.
He was stunned, “I promised you something?”
“Yes.” she knew he must have forgotten, but it didn’t matter. “A promise made is a promise kept.”
If he wouldn’t give it willingly, she would take it herself.
Gu Xianting was puzzled. What had he promised her?
He began to recall his past with her.
Then he was completely stunned. He stopped in his tracks, standing still.
The man, blindfolded with a black cloth, stood quietly, exuding a sense of bewilderment.
Feeling the tug on the rope tied to his hands, he absentmindedly let the force pull him forward.
He realized that his memories of her had become very blurry.
He and Wen Zhao had grown up together as childhood friends. When they were eighteen, their families held a grand engagement ceremony for them.
After that, Wen Zhao joined the Wen family business, and despite their engagement, their interactions started to decrease.
Later, on a rainy day, his car hit Su Mengyao, who was rushing to a part-time job. After that, his memories of Wen Zhao suddenly became clearer.
When she discovered that he was secretly sponsoring Su Mengyao and had taken her into his apartment when she had nowhere else to go, it was the first time she was so aggressive.
“To help her, did you really have to arrange for her to live with you and spend every day together?”
“Who is she to you? There are so many people in the world who can’t afford to eat. Why is she the most pitiful one that you have to support her?”
“Her mother is sick. What does that have to do with you? We had plans to have dinner, and you bailed. Am I that unimportant?”
He could remember many instances of Wen Zhao’s questioning. He thought, how could she be so indifferent? Su Mengyao was so pitiful, and he was just offering a little help.
Couldn’t she see how pale she looked? Why did she have to disregard others’ feelings and say such things?
Later, Wen Zhao asked him if he had fallen in love with Su Mengyao.
He denied it at the time, even getting furious, thinking she was insulting both him and Su Mengyao. But when he turned around, he saw her disbelieving and disappointed face.
She was so upset that she left and ended up in a car accident. When he rushed to the hospital and saw the fragile Su Mengyao, he suddenly realized that all his favoritism was simply because he liked her.
He thought he didn’t have that kind of favoritism for Wen Zhao and that he must not love her. The person he loved was Su Mengyao.
He started lying to Wen Zhao. He admitted that he wasn’t a good person. Despite having a fiancée, he allowed another woman to get close to him.
Could he really not see through that clumsy act?
Unlikely. It was simply because he chose to indulge it.
At the moment he realized this, he felt as if he had fallen into an icy abyss. It was as if the invisible hand that had been covering his eyes had been removed, and he saw clearly for the first time.
In the past five years, he had never thought about these things. Maybe he wanted to think about them, but every time the thought occurred, he would deliberately shift his focus.
Was it because he couldn’t see anything now, that he could finally use his heart to look back at the paths he had walked?
“Alright, get in the car.” Wen Zhao’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
He was mechanically pushed into the car. Afterward, he could feel her sitting beside him.
He desperately wanted to know what exactly he had promised her. What was hidden in those memories of his that had become so blurry?
Before realizing he was a scumbag, he could confidently question her, but now, these questions were stuck in his heart, and he couldn’t bring himself to ask them.
The car was very quiet, and he had no idea where it was headed.
He began to think about Su Mengyao again. Thinking of her still made his heart race. He wasn’t a good person, and she wasn’t as simple and pure as he had thought.
Feelings can be so irrational.
He still cared deeply about her.
He seemed to have become accustomed to protecting her, taking care of her, and always prioritizing her feelings. He was willing to do anything for her.
He regretted it. He didn’t regret falling in love with her, but he regretted agreeing to the early wedding with Wen Zhao.
Or maybe even earlier, when he realized he had fallen in love with Su Mengyao, he should have been braver and more decisive in breaking off the engagement with Wen Zhao.
Perhaps then, the three of them wouldn’t have ended up like this.
No matter what, now he had to gain Wen Zhao’s forgiveness. Only if she forgave him and let him go would he have a chance to break free from her control and be with Su Mengyao.
Sitting beside him, Wen Zhao was unaware that he had made a decision. To her, what he thought now no longer mattered.
In the pitch-black night, only the car’s headlights pierced the darkness, moving toward an unknown destination.
A laptop lay open on her lap. Unable to go to the company in person, she had to handle many things remotely.
In the pitch-black night, only the car’s headlights pierced the darkness, moving toward an unknown destination..
Thanks to reliving her life, many problematic projects were halted in advance, and the company’s parasites were swiftly cleared out. In her previous life, the Wen family was ultimately swallowed by the Gu family, and the business she had built up became a dowry for Gu Xianting.
In this life, no one would take away what was hers. Besides, if she had nothing, how could she accomplish what she wanted to do?
Gu Xianting wasn’t causing trouble, which pleased her. Otherwise, it would greatly affect her work efficiency.
After driving for two hours, the car finally stopped by an airstrip. She closed her laptop and handed it to her secretary sitting in the front passenger seat.
“Get out.” She glanced at the motionless Gu Xianting. After reminding him, she directly pulled the rope in her hand, and he followed the force out of the car.
On the airstrip, a private jet was ready for takeoff.
“Alright, you can sleep for a while now.” She signaled to a black-clad bodyguard beside her.
Before he realized what she meant, thinking he wasn’t tired yet, a familiar strong electric current struck him. The next second, everything went black as he lost consciousness.
The bodyguard caught the collapsing Gu Xianting, slung him over his shoulder, and followed Wen Zhao onto the plane.
A few minutes later, the plane took off, its white body leaving a streak across the blue sky before disappearing from sight.
On the private jet, Dr. Xia was tending to Gu Xianting’s wounds.
The wound on his head had not been properly treated before, and later, Wen Zhao repeatedly dunked him into bathtubs filled with cold water, leaving the wound in a horrific state.
Dr. Xia didn’t say much, but as a doctor seeing a patient in such condition, he couldn’t help but comment, “Mr. Gu’s wound wasn’t treated in time, and it’s already a bit infected.”
“Yes, there was a bit of an accident. Dr. Xia, I’m counting on you,” she said sincerely, like a concerned wife caring for her husband.
“You don’t need to worry too much. It’s not life-threatening, but it will cause some pain,” he said, noticing the dark circles under her eyes and offering some reassurance.
Suppressing a smile, she watched as he treated Gu Xianting’s wound. Although he had been electrocuted into unconsciousness, the pain was evident as the muscles in his face twitched while the doctor cleaned the wound.
Looking at Gu Xianting’s face, she thought that despite everything, even being tormented to this extent, she still liked his face a lot.
“Will the wound on his head leave a scar?” She asked.
Dr. Xia was applying medicine to the wound. “With such a large wound, it’s unlikely to heal without a scar. But since it’s on the forehead, it can be covered with longer hair. If that’s not desirable, medical aesthetic treatments for scar removal are quite advanced nowadays.”
“Alright, I understand,” she nodded.
A scar would serve as a reminder to him of the price he paid for trying to harm her.
“Ms. Wen, someone is looking for you.” Her secretary, who had been waiting outside, walked in with her phone.
She took the phone and saw it was a video call request on WeChat from Gu Ruoxian.
Gu Ruoxian, Gu Xianting’s older sister, was the only person who wanted him to break off the engagement.
She liked Su Mengyao very much. In the previous life, after Gu Xianting irresponsibly eloped with her, the Gu family cut off his financial support. It was Gu Ruoxian who provided them with a place to stay and gave them a large sum of money, allowing the runaway couple to enjoy a very romantic time together.
A bright smile appeared on Wen Zhao’s lips as she decisively answered the call.
The video connected, and the meticulously dressed face of Gu Ruoxian appeared before her. Her gaze was sharp as she immediately questioned, “Where have you kidnapped my brother?”
