Chapter 15: The Price of Sanity(I)
The days following their passionate night together were a whirlwind of emotions for both Elias and Eva. While their love had rekindled, the challenges they faced were far from over. Elias's bloodlust had surged dramatically, and he struggled to keep it under control. The primal hunger gnawed at him, threatening to consume his sanity.
Eva, on the other hand, had been growing stronger, but her recovery was short-lived. One morning, she woke up feeling weaker than ever, her body trembling with exhaustion. The strength she had gained seemed to vanish overnight, leaving her vulnerable and frail.
Elias noticed the change in her immediately. His heart ached at the sight of her suffering, but his own struggle with bloodlust made it difficult for him to focus. The scent of her blood was intoxicating, and he found it increasingly hard to resist the urge to feed.
"Eva, you need to rest," Elias said, his voice strained. "I'll take care of you."
Eva nodded weakly, her eyes filled with fear and concern. "Elias, what's happening to me? Why am I getting worse?"
Elias's jaw tightened, his hands trembling with the effort to control himself. "I don't know, Eva but I promise I'll find a way to help you."
As the days passed, Eva's condition continued to deteriorate. She was bedridden, her body wracked with fever and weakness. Elias stayed by her side, his heart breaking at the sight of her suffering but the constant closeness to her made it nearly impossible for him to control his bloodlust.
One evening, as Eva lay asleep, Elias sat by her bedside, watching over her. The scent of her blood was overwhelming, and he felt the hunger surge within him. His vision blurred, and his senses were overwhelmed by the primal urge to feed.
Unable to resist any longer, Elias lunged at Eva, his fangs bared. He hovered over her, ready to drink her blood, his sanity slipping away. The days following Elias's near attack on Eva were filled with tension and fear. Eva's condition continued to worsen, and Elias's struggle with his bloodlust became more intense. The love they shared was overshadowed by the constant threat of danger, and they both knew that something had to change.
One evening, as Eva lay in bed, her body weak and trembling, Magnus arrived at the apartment. His expression was grave, and his eyes were filled with concern. He had been keeping a close watch on Elias, and he knew that the situation was becoming dire.
"Elias, we need to talk," Magnus said, his voice steady but urgent.
Elias looked up from his place beside Eva, his eyes filled with desperation. "Magnus, I don't know what to do. Eva is getting worse, and my bloodlust…I thought it was under control but I can't control it. I'm afraid I'll hurt her."
Magnus nodded, his expression serious. "I know, Elias. That's why I'm here. I've been researching, trying to find a solution. And I think I've found one, but you're not going to like it."
Eva's eyes fluttered open, her heart pounding with a mix of hope and fear. "What is it, Magnus? What do we need to do?"
Magnus took a deep breath, his gaze shifting between Elias and Eva. "The only way to bring Elias's sanity back is for him to drink your blood, Eva. It's a dangerous process, but it might be the only way to save both of you."
Elias's eyes widened in shock, his heart racing with fear and anger. "No, Magnus. I can't do that. I won't risk hurting her."
Magnus placed a reassuring hand on Elias's shoulder. "I understand your fear, Elias but if we don't do this, you could lose control completely and actually hurt her. Also Eva's condition will only continue to deteriorate. This might be the only way to save her."
Eva's heart ached at the thought of Elias drinking her blood, but she knew that Magnus was right. She looked up at Elias, her eyes filled with determination. "Elias, I trust you. If this is the only way, then we have to do it."
Elias's hands trembled as he took Eva's hand in his. "Eva, I don't want to hurt you. I can't bear the thought of losing you."
Eva squeezed his hand, her voice steady despite her fear. "You won't lose me, Elias. I believe in you. We can do this together."
Magnus nodded, his expression resolute. "You'll need to be careful Elias, remember, you need to take just enough blood to stabilize your condition, but not so much that it harms Eva. I'll be here to help you through it."
Elias took a deep breath, his heart filled with a mix of fear and determination. "Alright, Magnus. Let's do this."
As they prepared for the process, Eva lay back on the bed, her heart pounding with anticipation. Elias leaned over her, his eyes filled with a mix of love and fear. "Eva, I love you," he whispered, his voice trembling.
"I love you too, Elias," Eva replied, her voice steady. "We'll get through this together."
With Magnus's guidance, Elias carefully sank his fangs into Eva's neck, taking just enough blood to stabilize his condition. The process was intense, and both of them felt the weight of the moment. But as Elias drank, he felt a sense of clarity returning to his mind, the bloodlust thinning.
When it was over, Elias pulled back, his eyes filled with relief and gratitude. "Eva, are you alright?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.
Eva nodded weakly, her eyes filled with love. "I'm alright, Elias. We did it."
Magnus smiled, his heart filled with hope. "You both did well. This is just the beginning, but it's a step in the right direction. We'll continue to monitor your condition, Elias, and make sure that Eva recovers fully."
As they held each other, Elias and Eva knew that their love had been tested like never before. But they also knew that they had the strength to face whatever challenges lay ahead, together
However, despite their efforts, Eva's condition continued to worsen. Days turned into nights, and she grew weaker, her breathing becoming more difficult. Elias's heart broke at the sight of her suffering, and he knew they couldn't wait any longer.
"Elias, we need to take her to the hospital," Magnus said, his voice filled with urgency. "There's something we're missing, and we need the doctors to help us find out what it is."
Elias nodded, his heart heavy with worry. "You're right, Magnus. We can't risk losing her."
With great care, Elias and Magnus prepared to take Eva to the hospital. Elias gently lifted her from the bed, cradling her fragile form in his arms. Eva's eyes fluttered open, her gaze filled with a mix of fear and trust. "Elias, what's happening?" she whispered, her voice weak.
"We're taking you to the hospital, Eva," Elias replied, his voice steady. "We need to find out what's causing this and get you the help you need."
Eva nodded weakly, her eyes closing as she leaned against Elias.
As they made their way to the hospital, Elias's mind raced with worry. He couldn't bear the thought of losing Eva, not after everything they had been through. He held her close, his heart filled with determination to save her.
When they arrived at the hospital, the medical staff quickly took Eva into their care. Unaware of Elias and Magnus's true nature, the doctors began a series of tests to determine the cause of Eva's condition.
Hours passed, and Elias paced the waiting room, his anxiety growing with each passing minute. Magnus sat beside him, offering words of comfort and reassurance. "Elias, we did the right thing. The doctors will find out what's wrong and help her."
Elias nodded, but his heart remained heavy with worry. "I just hope it's not too late, Magnus. I can't lose her."
Finally, a doctor approached them, her expression serious but hopeful. "Mr. Elias, we've completed the initial tests. It appears that Eva has lost a significant amount of blood, which has contributed to her weakened state. We're going to start a blood transfusion immediately, but it's going to be a long and challenging process."
Elias's heart sank at the news, guilt washing over him. He knew that his actions had contributed to Eva's condition, and the weight of that realization was almost too much to bear. "Thank you, doctor. Please do everything you can to help her."
The doctor nodded, her expression compassionate. "We will, Mr. Elias. Eva is in good hands."
As soon as the doctor left, tears began to flow from Elias's eyes, and he couldn't stop them. The guilt and fear overwhelmed him, and he felt as if his heart was breaking. Magnus placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, but the weight of his emotions was too much to bear.
"I did this to her, Magnus," Elias whispered, his voice choked with sobs. "I put her in danger. How can I ever make this right?"
Magnus's expression was filled with empathy and determination. "Elias, you did what you thought was best to save her. Now we need to focus on helping her recover. We'll get through this together."
Elias shook his head, tears streaming down his face. "I can't believe I let this happen. I should have found another way."
Magnus squeezed his shoulder gently. "Elias, you can't change the past. What matters now is that you're here for her. She needs you to be strong."
Elias took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. "You're right, Magnus. I have to be strong for her. I won't let her down."
