Chapter 217 The Truth and the Bombing

_____

"Hmm."

Doctor No. 2, clad in a white coat, slowly opened his eyes. His expression was blank as he took in the scene before him.

"Is this the world after death? So, it turns out people still have consciousness after dying."

"I have good news for you—you're still alive!"

A voice suddenly echoed beside him.

No. 2 in the white coat turned quickly toward the source of the sound and saw a strange figure standing nearby.

"Don't you recognize me?"

It was Aoki, now appearing as he had when he first arrived.

"It's you!"

No. 2's eyes sharpened, and he brushed his hand across his chest instinctively. His tone grew serious. "What's going on? I clearly committed suicide by taking poison!"

Aoki nodded casually. "Yeah, it was really dangerous. You were almost beyond saving."

Becoming a demon didn't grant invincibility. Demons could still be killed by poison, and the poison No. 2 had ingested was potent even against demons.

Newly born demons were particularly vulnerable.

He had barely managed to survive.

Once he realized he wasn't dead, No. 2's eyes lit up with fervor.

"This is a miracle! How did you do it? The poison I took is lethal and has no cure! How in the world did you save me?"

"You don't need to know that," Aoki replied flatly. "Now, I ask, and you answer."

No. 2 hesitated before demanding, "I'll tell you everything I know, but only if you first tell me how you saved me!"

Aoki ignored the demand and pressed on. "Where is Lab 2? How do I get into Lab 1?"

No. 2 hesitated before scoffing. "Impossible! Forget it! From the moment you acted, there's no way to enter Lab 1 again!"

He explained further, "Lab 1 monitors Lab 2 and Lab 3 constantly. They already know what happened in Lab 2 and have sealed the entrance.

"And you might not know this, but Lab 1 isn't like Labs 2 and 3. It's made entirely of special metals. Once locked from the inside, even a cannon can't blast it open!

"Your only chance is me. Only I can help you get in!"

Aoki studied him carefully and realized he was telling the truth—but only as far as he understood it.

Still, Aoki wasn't about to be swayed.

"You want to enter Lab 1 to obtain their research results," No. 2 said, his tone growing smug. "I can help you—"

Aoki cut him off. "Who is the person in charge of this experimental base?"

"You'll need to..."

No. 2's resistance was evident. He refused to cooperate unless Aoki revealed how he had saved him.

But Aoki didn't need to argue. Human instinct worked in his favor. Every time he posed a question, No. 2's thoughts betrayed him, providing Aoki with the answers he sought.

Unless someone consciously guarded their thoughts, it was nearly impossible to resist.

Aoki asked a series of questions in quick succession.

Even so, No. 2 remained defiant. "Unless you tell me how you saved me, I won't tell you anything!"

"Is that so?"

Aoki seized No. 2 by the neck and lifted him effortlessly into the air. An invisible vortex began to form in Aoki's palm, swirling ominously.

No. 2's eyes widened as he sensed the danger. His tone turned desperate. "Wait! Don't you want answers? Don't you want to get into Lab 1?"

Aoki remained silent, and the vortex in his hand grew larger and more menacing.

Panic set in. "I—I'll tell you half of what I know first! Then you tell me how to treat myself. How about that?"

"No need. Take your secrets to the grave," Aoki replied coldly.

"No, no, no! Wait! What are you—"

Before No. 2 could finish, the vortex expanded, engulfing him completely. His eyes were filled with unwillingness.

Being exposed to a monumental secret yet unable to fully uncover it was a torment worse than death for him.

Meanwhile, the pirate leader underwent his own transformation, becoming a demon.

Aoki didn't hold back, providing him with a one-stop service: awakening, interrogation, and eventual devouring.

From the memories of these two individuals, Aoki finally pieced together the truth behind the experimental base.

This base had been established by the Kingdom of Ram.

Not only was the eldest prince involved, but the king himself was the true mastermind. In fact, the king was the ultimate authority behind the scenes, while the eldest prince merely acted as a general manager.

The experimental base was created with three primary objectives:

1. Drug Production and Sales for Profit

The base produced drugs, distributed them among the populace, and exploited them for immense profit.

2. Creation of Controllable Soldiers

Those cold, lifeless guards were the result. Their bodies had been altered through drugs, stripping them of most of their self-awareness. The Ram Kingdom had even explored creating artificial humans and clones but lacked the technological capability to succeed.

3. Research on Life Extension

The king, already advanced in age, was terrified of death yet unwilling to relinquish power. This fear drove him to establish the base, where inhumane experiments were conducted in pursuit of prolonging his life.

Each goal corresponded to one of the three laboratories:

Laboratory No. 3 focused on developing super soldiers.

Laboratory No. 2 specialized in drug research and production.

Laboratory No. 1 oversaw the entire base and concentrated on life extension research.

As for the connection between the experimental base and the Donquixote Pirates, it was largely as Aoki had suspected. The pirates had merely provided partial funding without sending any members to oversee operations.

Obi's memories revealed that his involvement with the Donquixote Pirates was only peripheral; he had never even met Doflamingo.

Aoki's figure flickered as he returned to Laboratory No. 2 from the alien dimension.

The laboratory was eerily silent, devoid of any movement. The door was tightly shut, and the stench of blood permeated every corner.

He looked down. Based on the memories of White Coat No. 2, Laboratory No. 1 was located underground.

There was no direct way in.

The entrance switch was inside Laboratory No. 1 itself and could only be activated by someone already there.

Aoki tried the method recalled from White Coat No. 2's memory but received no response.

It seemed No. 2's words were true. Those inside Laboratory No. 1 must have realized what had happened in Laboratory No. 2 and sealed themselves off like turtles retreating into their shells.

They believed their defenses were impenetrable.

Unfortunately for them, they weren't.

As Aoki contemplated his next move, his body began to expand rapidly, soon colliding with the ceiling.

With a single punch, the roof of the laboratory shattered.

In a flash, Aoki transformed into a towering dragon-man over two hundred meters tall and leaped into the sky.

Opening his massive jaws, he gathered flames that coalesced into a colossal fireball, tens of meters in diameter.

Dragon Breath!

Boom!

The fireball streaked downward, striking the experimental base. It erupted into an inferno, flames spreading rapidly and consuming everything in their path.

Aoki landed at a safe distance, watching as the base was engulfed in a sea of fire.

With a deep breath, he prepared to unleash yet another attack.
