Toji in My Hero Academia

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Entrance Exam II

Toji observed the immense buildings towering before him. His eyes scanned the structure with a mix of curiosity and indifference. "Wow... they really have money to replicate a city," he muttered, almost as if thinking out loud. While looking for a place to stretch, he bumped into someone.

"E-Excuse me," a girl's voice was heard. She was somewhat short, with brown hair and an apologetic expression. She hurriedly bowed in apology, making Toji raise an eyebrow indifferently. He nodded, accepting the apology without much fuss.

The girl stepped back slightly, but Toji noticed something strange about her posture. Her breathing was irregular, and her body was too tense. He frowned before saying in a direct tone, "Hey, are you okay? Your body's too stiff. You're just going to end up with a cramp like that."

The girl jolted, clearly nervous. "S-Sorry if that bothers you," she replied, bowing again, this time even deeper.

"Huh? Are you dumb or what?" Toji retorted, somewhat exasperated. "I asked if you were okay—how could that bother anyone?"

She blushed slightly, feeling somewhat offended by his comment. "S-Sorry…" she replied in a tone that mixed annoyance and embarrassment.

Toji sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Just relax. Overthinking will only make you fail… Or, well, do whatever you want. If you fail, better for me—less competition," he added with a smile that seemed mocking.

The girl pursed her lips, making a slight pout. This guy was strange: polite one moment, rude the next, and then a complete jerk. However, before she could say anything else, Toji spoke again.

"Oh, in case you pass... I'm Toji Fushiguro."

She blinked, surprised by the introduction, but eventually smiled a little. "Uraraka Ochako," she replied with a firmer tone. Then, trying to imitate Toji's relaxed movements, she began to stretch like him.

Minutes passed quickly, and the doors in front of them suddenly opened wide. Uraraka stopped in her tracks, looking around, waiting for a beep or some signal to mark the start.

"What are you standing there for?" Toji questioned without breaking stride, instinctively moving ahead of the group. In the blink of an eye, he had already crossed the doors, leaving Uraraka and the others with their mouths hanging open.

"WHAT ARE YOU ALL WAITING FOR?!" boomed Present Mic's amplified voice from the speakers. "IN A REAL FIGHT, NO ONE TELLS YOU WHEN TO START! LOOK AT STUDENT 7233—HE'S ALREADY IN! FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE!"

Uraraka clenched her fists, feeling a mix of frustration and determination. "That guy…" she muttered to herself before charging forward along with everyone else.

As soon as Toji crossed the doors, his eyes locked onto a one-point robot advancing toward him. Without hesitation, he bent his legs and, in an instant, jumped with force, delivering a double kick that ripped the machine's head off. The robotic body collapsed to the ground, emitting nothing but sparks and a metallic sound.

With fluid movements, he pulled out the small cube he had kept in his pocket. The device instantly reacted, transforming into a spear in his hands. Without wasting time, Toji spun on his heels and threw the spear with precision at another robot on the opposite street. The weapon pierced through its metallic torso, stopping it in its tracks.

Toji ran to the spot, retrieved the spear, and, in an improvised move, used it as a pole vault to propel himself over a low building. Upon landing, he crushed another robot that had no chance to react. From his position, he noticed several students starting to arrive in the area.

"Heh, they took their sweet time," he muttered, smiling smugly.

With a quick pull, he reverted the weapon, which now took the form of a bat. Without breaking pace, Toji sprinted off in search of more robots, leaving mechanical bodies scattered on the ground. During his frenetic advance, he felt a vibration in the bat. He glanced at the device Momo had given him.

"Oh, right… The battery. It must be running low," he thought, eyeing the cube as he adjusted his strategy.

Just as he was considering climbing a building to improve his vision and find more targets, he noticed a boy struggling against two robots—one worth two points and another worth three. Both were cornering him, and the boy was barely managing to dodge their attacks.

Toji rolled his eyes. With a sigh, he leapt nimbly to the spot, twisting in mid-air to deliver a kick that deflected the larger robot's strike, saving the boy from taking a direct hit to the face.

"Don't bite off more than you can chew," he said firmly, not waiting for a response. Before the boy could even thank him, Toji was already gone, leaving behind a pair of destroyed robots.

From that moment on, Toji continued destroying machines, this time more mindful of the cube's usage to avoid depleting its energy. Between attacks, he observed the other students, helping those in serious trouble but never lingering long enough to be considered an ally. To him, this was a competition.

In a large office, several people were speaking in low voices while watching the enormous screens in front of them. The images showed the candidates facing the robots in the test area, each demonstrating their unique abilities.

"This year seems promising… They all have great potential," commented one observer, crossing their arms with a satisfied smile.

"And who is that boy with the changing weapon? Isn't that illegal?" asked another, pointing at a screen displaying Toji dismantling robots with his skill and impeccable strategy.

The murmurs among those present grew, but they were interrupted by a firm voice from the center of the room. "Student 7233. He was allowed to bring a weapon due to his quirkless condition."

The group fell silent, turning their heads toward the speaker: a small creature resembling a mix between a rat and a bear. It was the academy's principal, who watched the screens with an enigmatic smile.

"Quirkless?" The incredulity was palpable in one observer's tone. "How is it possible for a quirkless to be so skilled and strong? He's tearing through all the robots like it's nothing."

The principal chuckled lightly but didn't take his eyes off the screens. "I don't know," he replied calmly. "However, he's not just skilled at destruction. He also has the awareness to help others, even though this is a competition. That says a lot about his character."

In a corner of the room, a tall, thin figure with a skeletal appearance and messy blonde hair frowned as he watched the screen intently. His eyes gleamed with recognition.

"Isn't that the young man from that time?" he murmured to himself, though his tone caught the attention of those nearby. His expression quickly shifted from surprise to seriousness. "It seems this year we'll have exceptional cases."

Silence momentarily filled the room as everyone focused their attention on the screen showing Toji facing a group of robots with calculated movements, making it all look like routine training.

"Time's almost up…" Toji murmured as the cube in his hand continued to vibrate. He knew what that meant: the next transformation would be the last. "I hope it's enough," he added, carefully putting the device away. He took a moment to help some injured students he encountered along the way, but then a loud crash echoed through the area, stopping him in his tracks.

Toji turned toward the source of the sound and saw a massive metallic colossus emerging from the buildings, destroying them mercilessly. It was the zero-point robot. He watched the scene with disbelief and anger. "Can't they see there might be injured people—or worse, casualties?" he thought aloud, gritting his teeth.

Without wasting time, he ran to the scene. Upon arrival, he found chaos: students running in panic, others lying on the ground with fear-stricken faces. The colossus advanced relentlessly, ignoring everything in its path. Toji was about to intervene when a cry of pain caught his attention.

A few meters away, he saw Uraraka trapped under a pile of rubble. He clicked his tongue in frustration. "What a bunch of worthless heroes," he thought, cursing the situation. He rushed to her just as the robot's massive foot lifted, ready to crush her.

Without hesitation, Toji placed himself between the foot and Uraraka, blocking the blow with his own body. A dry, painful sound was heard as the pressure of the metal made his bones creak.

"Fushiguro-san!" Uraraka screamed, tears streaming down her face.

"Quick, can you get out?" Toji asked between gritted teeth.

She quickly nodded and touched the rubble trapping her, using her quirk to make it float. She crawled out of the debris, trembling from the effort. However, Toji had no time to relax. As he prepared to use all his strength to push the metallic foot away, he heard an explosion.

The weight suddenly disappeared, and Toji looked up just in time to see the robot staggering. A boy with green hair and an extended arm had struck the colossus with a devastating impact, causing it to fall backward.

"What…?" was all Toji managed to say before seeing the boy plummet along with the robot's wreckage.

"Hey, kid!" Toji yelled at Uraraka, who was also staring at the fall, her mouth agape. "He's going to kill himself if we don't do something. Can you still use your quirk?"

"Y-Yes," she stammered.

"Good." Toji pulled the cube from his pocket, this time transforming it again. It expanded and flattened, becoming an improvised platform. With strength, he lifted Uraraka onto it and launched her toward the falling boy.

"AAAAAH!" she screamed from the force, but she managed to extend her hand just in time to brush against the boy's leg, activating her quirk and making him float before he hit the ground.

Both landed several meters away, but Uraraka, exhausted, released her technique. Everything that had been floating crashed to the ground with force. The effort took its toll, and she vomited instantly.

From a distance, Toji watched the scene with a satisfied smile. "Heh, I'm a genius," he said to himself, ignoring both Uraraka emptying her stomach and the pain still throbbing in his body.
