Chapter 19: Chapter-19
Because there were two people in the Upper Six, Tom thought that it could only obtain the blood demon art of the demon it killed. And Daki's ribbon blood demon art was obviously more useful, so Tom gave up on Gyutaro and chose to kill Daki. Unexpectedly, the system gave it a surprise and awarded Tom the blood demon art of Gyutaro as well.
The sea surface rose slightly, dragging Tom quickly towards the drifting Infinity Cruise ship, which was moving farther and farther away. Back on the tattered cruise ship, Tom looked at the place where Daki and her brother disappeared after their deaths and sighed softly.
In the end, in the original work of Demon Slayer, except for a few scum among scum, many demons were also pitiful people. But no matter how pitiful these demons were when they were humans, they had committed countless evils after becoming demons. You can pity them, but you can't let them go because of that.
"Tanjiro should have been dealt with," Tom muttered, organizing his thoughts as he walked toward the bottom of the cruise ship. Even before he reached downstairs, the sounds of intense fighting and violent blows could be heard.
"hinokami kagura: Round Dance!"
Turning the corner of the stairs, a gorgeous circular blade flashed before Tom's eyes. Just as Tom arrived, Tanjiro used Sun Breathing to decapitate the body of the Lower Moon demon, Enmu! It was just a fight against a lower-rank demon, and after the battle on Mt. Natagumo, Tanjiro's strength had greatly progressed. Even though the battle was fierce, it wasn't particularly dangerous.
This was for the better. It allowed Tanjiro to train and improve while also controlling the intensity of the battle so that Tanjiro wouldn't fight too recklessly and activate his Demon Slayer Mark. As a Sun Breathing user, Tanjiro was the most prone to activating the mark. Once he did, the resonance effect of the mark could easily cause other Hashira to activate theirs as well. If that happened, all of Tom's preparations over the past two years would be in vain.
The scientific method of demon-slaying that Tom had introduced was intended to replace the need for the mark. Tom didn't want the good people in the Demon Slayer Corps to die young because of it.
"Master Tom, we succeeded,"
Tanjiro and the others held their Nichirin swords, breathing heavily, but smiled brightly when they saw Tom.
"You did a good job. Let's head back to the room. The passengers on the ship should be waking up soon."
With the battle over, Tom jumped back onto Tom's shoulders. Having obtained demon blood earlier, Tom, like Nezuko, could now control his body size. Though Tom's normal length was 1.2 meters, he found it more comfortable to stay around 50 centimeters—the size of an adult cat.
With Enmu's death, the flesh and tentacles that covered the entire cruise ship began to turn into ash and dissipate. Tom and his group returned to their room before the passengers awoke. It was clear that the ship would be lively in the days ahead.
As expected, the entire ship had fallen asleep under Enmu's spell. Upon waking, they found the once pristine Infinity Cruise now in shambles. Each deck had massive holes from the battle, and many passengers were injured to varying degrees. Some had even disappeared mysteriously. A few claimed they saw a cat on the main deck that night, chopping off Miss Fern's head. All of this stirred panic among the passengers, who now only wished for the voyage to end quickly and reach the United States.
When this group of passengers arrived on land, the legend of the Infinity Cruise would likely turn into various supernatural stories spreading across America. But that was no longer Tom and his group's concern.
Eliminating the demons on the cruise was only one-third of their mission. Now, they could enjoy the rest of the time at sea. During this time, Tom discussed breathing techniques with Tanjiro and his companions. For Tom, who had already mastered ten breathing techniques, learning new ones was a breeze. By the time the Infinity Cruise arrived at the port of Michigan, Tom had learned additional breathing techniques from Tanjiro and the others.
Regarding the matter of the God of Fire Kagura, Tom also took advantage of the time to chat with Tanjiro. The dance, passed down through the Kamado family, was a sacrificial offering to the "God of Fire" for peace. However, its true identity was the legendary Sun Breathing, the original and strongest breathing technique representing the sun.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni, born during the Sengoku era, was a genius who mastered the power of the mark, the Transparent World, and breathing techniques. He was the chosen one who terrified the demon king, Muzan Kibutsuji, so much that Muzan hid for centuries until Yoriichi passed away. Sun Breathing was the technique Yoriichi used.
Before leaving the Demon Slayer Corps, Yoriichi passed on Sun Breathing to Tanjiro's ancestor, Kamado Sumiyoshi, in the form of the God of Fire Kagura. Along with this inheritance, the flower-shaped earrings that Yoriichi once wore had also been passed down through Tanjiro's family.
After learning the history of Sun Breathing from Tom, Tanjiro finally understood the source of his abilities. The answers to his long-held questions gave him a sense of peace, allowing him to relax.
"Whhooo—!"
The ship's whistle blew, signaling the end of their journey. After more than a month at sea, the tattered Infinity Cruise finally entered port under the astonished eyes of everyone on the dock.
The gangway had barely been lowered when the passengers couldn't wait to get off the ship. This voyage had left them with many psychological scars, and they wanted nothing more than to disembark as soon as possible.
"Is this America?"
Amidst the crowd, Tanjiro and his companions also disembarked. Tanjiro marveled at the bustling dock, which was vastly different from what he knew in Japan. The wide streets, trams dinging along, and skyscrapers towering hundreds of meters in the distance made him feel like a country bumpkin in the city.
Holding tightly to the wooden box on his back, Tanjiro looked around nervously as he followed Tomioka Giyuu. Unlike Tanjiro, Hashibira Inosuke was full of excitement, eager to see more. Meanwhile, Agatsuma Zenitsu held onto the wild boar-man to prevent him from running into pedestrians.
Even though Tom's group tried to stay low-key, they couldn't avoid attracting attention on the streets of America. Their outfits stood out among the crowd of people in suits and leather shoes.
"Hey! Are you sent by the Ubuyashiki family?"
A large white man greeted them in fluent Japanese from the street ahead. It seemed he was a partner of Ubuyashiki in the United States, sent to pick them up.
Tom smiled. The ultraviolet lamps he had been thinking about for so long had been commissioned to be made by this man.
