Transcendent Resurgence: Regressing on an abandoned Earth

Chapter 7: The first Boss fight

“Hahaha… you’re getting fired up huh!” Zyrus laughed in madness as he fought with Kyle.

He knew Kyle had hidden his powers, but this burst of power was out of his expectation.

‘This is fun… his skill must be higher ranked than mine,’

It had been a long time since Zyrus had fought with someone. As he became stronger, those who followed him in his earlier days were left behind one by one. As for his new followers? It would be stupid to trust his back to them.

“H-hey Zyrus, what’s wrong with him?” Lauren asked in a frightened tone. She was way too spooked to care about formal speech at this point.

"You must be an assassin or a spy, right?"

"H-how did you-"

"Don't panic. Do you know why I chose you? You guys reek of blood. He should have killed ten times more than you have. This is the true face of the man you love.” Zyrus spoke in an unhurried tone after he killed another snake.

“Can’t you be more fucking specific? Say something that I can understand!” Lauren shouted as she ran towards Zyrus. She had lost her bearings after looking at Kyle who was bloodied from head to toe.

“Oy oy, calm down will you! It’s just a skill that awakened due to his past.” Zyrus comforted her as he wiped the spittle from his face

‘What’s wrong with this woman?’

Lauren was completely defenseless now, so Zyrus had to take care of her while fighting.

“How will he get healed? Why now? Why is he hurt?”

“Oh come on just fight already!” Zyrus flicked her forehead after saving her from a snake.

“He will be healed so long as he keeps fighting. I know about a lot of skills like these, so pipe down down and kill as many as you can. Make the final hits.”

After hearing his explanation, Lauren finally calmed down and started fighting as well.

‘So much for cooperation... This was such an unnecessary drama.’ Zyrus sighed as moved back to the front lines again.

“S-sorry for shouting at you,” Lauren muttered after a while with a tomato like face.

“Humph.”

Zyrus avoided her apology as if it were a cold wind on a winter night. He had to keep his prestige, but deep down he knew how she felt.

Getting injured is equivalent to death if you don’t have any means to heal yourself. Their strength wasn't weak but they fought like headless chickens, it was no wonder he hadn't heard about them in his previous life.

Thankfully, he had a lot of time to train them to his liking. He didn't need their help before the third ring anyway.

“By the way, why did you tell me to make the last hits?”

‘She sure is hard-nosed alright’.

“As I’ve told you earlier, no skill is truly almighty. To balance out the boost in attack power and regeneration, the Exp gain is reduced to a minimal level,” Zyrus replied as his spear clashed against the Keliodus serpent.

“Oh! That makes sense”

“Oh my foot! Just kill them already”

“Tch... I said I’m sorry, okay.” Lauren apologized and sneakily looked at his face to see if he was still angry or not. It was a pity that she didn't know the main reason behind his foul mood was the pile of poisonous essence at her feet.

“Well, I’m not forgiving you then. How about that? huh?”

Not everyone had the leisure to bicker while fighting. For example, Hajin Choi.

‘They are freaks!’ Hajin cursed as he glanced at the other battlefield.

As if one weirdo who looked at everyone as if they had killed their parents wasn’t enough, there was another who fought like a bloody maniac.

Even if someone told him that the girl was normal now, he wouldn’t believe that.

‘Birds of a feather flock together eh, no wonder they didn’t have to take in these hot potatoes.’

He looked at the discarded level ones who had joined their team and let out a sigh. The third wave was almost over, but he had suffered too many causalities.

“Would you like to make a deal with my humble self, Sir Sparklepants?” Zyrus shouted at the flustered Hajin.

“Who? Me?” Hajin was more surprised than offended.

‘This guy made a joke! Him? Really?’

“Do you see anyone else wearing golden pants apart from your esteemed self?” Zyrus kept teasing him as he was annoyed by the fact that Lauren got the drop, every fucking time.

This had nothing to do with Hajin Choi, but so what?

Besides, it was quite accurate to call him ‘Sir Sparklepants’ at this juncture.

The midday sun’s light was reflected in the clear lake water. Thanks to the cloudless sky, the islands were shining like pearls on an azure canvas. One can imagine how glaringly bright a golden plate armor be in such a situation.

“What deal?” Hajin retorted in a serious tone.

“About the final boss,” Zyrus laid out the bait and called him over.

Hajin Choi hesitated as he looked at Kyle who was still slashing at snake corpses.

“Don’t worry, he doesn’t bite.”

While Zyrus chuckled and Lauren glared at him, Hajin finally made his way to the opposite island.

“Look we don’t have much time, so I’ll be blunt here.”

Hajin nodded in agreement, urging Zyrus to continue

“How about we cooperate to kill the final boss? We’ll divide the corpse equally and as for the last hit, leave that to our own capabilities.”

“Aren’t I on a losing end in this deal?” Hajin questioned with a frown.

“You are.” Zyrus replied in a matter-of-fact tone. He didn’t care either way.

Hajin felt like kicking on an iron board as he stood there awkwardly. He knew that the trio in front of him was as much as, if not stronger than their group of a dozen.

“What about them?” Hajin asked as he looked at the third group, who at the same time, were also looking in their direction. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what they were thinking.

“He’ll deal with them.” Zyrus pointed his almost broken spear at Kyle.

Lauren was taking care of Kyle who was panting as if he had run a marathon. Well, compared to a marathon, what he did was much more exhausting.

“Are you sure? They have at least 20 men who are at level 3.”

Hajin was convinced of Kyle’s strength, but looking at him now, it would be difficult for him to walk, much less fight against a group of people.

Zyrus maintained a disdainful look at Hajin without speaking a word, while Lauren treated him as if he were thin air.

Facing the gaze that seemed to say ‘What a country bumpkin!’ Hajin had no other choice than to nod with a sigh.

‘Phew... it’s so exhausting to act like a cheerful and approachable person.’ Zyrus let out a breath of relief and walked towards Kyle.

Hajin would probably stumble down and drown in the lake if he were to hear Zyrus’s thoughts.

“How should we distribute our SP?” Kyle asked with a pale face.

He was already back to normal, and as a reward for his exhausting work, he had gotten a C-ranked skill.

“You should focus on Vitality for now,” Zyrus replied without hesitation as he looked at Kyle's recovering injuries.

His skill was pretty straightforward. He consumed his own HP to deal ridiculous damage, and with every kill he would regenerate some HP back.

The fundamental reason behind his high damage output was his “Piercing” stat, therefore, his strength stat was not the main factor for the final damage.

Zyrus pondered for a bit as he looked at Lauren. Her skill was rather unique as it focused more on utility.

She can use up to 10 knives and retrieve about half of them automatically with a 60 sec cooldown.

Although it didn’t look as strong as Zyrus and Kyle’s skill, it had its own advantages. She could continuously throw knives at 6-second intervals.

“Divide your SP equally between intelligence and agility, you’ll need sharp reflexes and quick thinking for a rapid-fire attack style.’”

After giving them some tips and tricks about how to effectively fight, he opened his status screen as well.

After killing more than 30 snakes, he once again stopped getting any Exp from them. On the bright side though, Kyle and Lauren had collected a whopping 13 poisonous essence beads!

‘I’ll level up after killing the boss.’

Zyrus was looking forward to reaching level 5 as the red-eyed man had told him that he could return to Earth once every 5 levels.

‘I have a lot of studying to do as well… maybe the boss will give me a clue? It seems immortal from a certain perspective.’

His only job on earth was to learn more about the powers of his previous life. It was quite embarrassing for him who was named ‘Void Monarch’.

Although the sanctuary gave powers with ease, it had its flaws as well. It was impossible for one to know about their fundamental powers without any source of knowledge.

In Zyrus’s case, he was undoubtedly an expert in using void and space magic, but his expertise lay in the application of magic and not the study of space itself.

‘It was very awkward when I stood like a buffoon when he was explaining time dilatation and length contraction…’

Zyrus used 2 SP on strength and closed the window. He would have all the time he needed to figure out immortality and Origin.

‘Everything would be pointless if I die before reaching the max level, it would be the biggest joke ever…’

*BOOOOMMM*

An earthshaking rumble sounded across the lake as a spatial crack appeared on the central island.

*HISS* *HISS*

“OH GOD—“

“Wha-WHAT is that?”

The Keliodus serpent revealed its majestic form, a ten meter of coiled menace. Its seven heads hissed in a unique pitch, sending shivers down everyone’s spine.

Its silvery black eyes looked down upon everyone present and in that moment, no one even dared to breathe.

“What a noisy noodlehead, it’s not our fault that you got a reptile dysfunction.”

.

.

When everyone heard Zyrus’s hysterical shout, The aura that Keliodus serpent had built up vanished like a thin smoke.

“hahaha….”

“Well said”

Infuriated by the jeering crowd in front of it, the Keliodus serpent moved like a lunar tide.

Zyrus looked at the seven pairs of eyes that contained a predatory gaze, and with his almost broken spear in hand, he charged ahead like a monarch who ruled the battlefield.
