Chapter 23 - Follow me closely sister
Jiang Zi hummed in response and casually mentioned, “I just saw the notification push. It mentioned both of our names.”
Hearing this, Tang Yuan’s ears practically perked up, and she stuttered:
“R-Really? Did you see what it said?”
Flustered by Jiang Zi’s straightforwardness, Tang Yuan’s face turned red.
“Actually… it’s pretty normal, right? People see what they want to see…”
“Hm?” Jiang Zi wasn’t going to let her dodge the subject.
“I thought you’d say something like ‘the netizens is sharp-eyed as always.'”
[No, no, no, sister have liked Chu Yu for a while now. How could she just bend like that?]
[Ugh! Saying stuff like this messing with my head! Too bad I can’t see the affection progress bar right now, or I’d know if I’m being fooled or not!]
Hearing Tang Yuan muttering in her mind about her crush on Chu Yu, Jiang Zi couldn’t resist reaching out and ruffling her soft, curly hair, making a mess of it.
Tang Yuan snapped back to reality, weakly brushing Jiang Zi’s hand away.
“Alright, alright, let’s go back,” she said, unaware that this was quite an intimate gesture.
Sometimes, Jiang Zi really couldn’t understand how Tang Yuan’s mind worked, but she didn’t pull her hand back and walked towards their room.
After all, it had been a long day, and the sweaty clothes clinging to her body were uncomfortable, so the first thing she did when she returned to the room was head for a shower.
Once she was done, Tang Yuan grabbed her tablet and went into Jiang Zi’s room. She had been here for two days already and hadn’t even spent a single night in her own room. Clearly, she planned to sleep in Jiang Zi’s room again tonight. She curled up on the bed, tablet in hand, and opened a game.
Jiang Zi had gotten used to Tang Yuan showing up uninvited, but it was obvious she wasn’t here to bond. She didn’t even say hello and immediately dove into her game.
Tang Yuan hired a game carry from a game carry group to help her play *Cultivation World* and carry her through some dungeons.
She’s a noob at the game, but she had money. Before long, her character had been boosted using a ton of resources to the Nascent Soul stage.
Jiang Zi sat beside her, watching Tang Yuan play.
When she saw Tang Yuan’s ID, she immediately realised—it turned out this was Tang Yuan’s account. It had been registered for less than half a month and had already climbed to the top of the wealth leaderboard.
Right now, Tang Yuan is in the game lobby, waiting for someone. Bored, she started changing outfits, her wardrobe filled with many beautiful clothes.
Jiang Zi leaned in closer to get a better look at the character model.
The face bore a striking resemblance to Tang Yuan’s, about 90% similar.
Jiang Zi was a bit surprised. “Did you pinch this yourself?”
Noticing that Jiang Zi was watching her play, Tang Yuan proudly angled the tablet so that it would be easier for Jiang Zi to see the screen. Her voice had a smug, almost triumphant tone:
“Of course not! I paid someone to pinch it.”
“I found this game not too long ago. It’s pretty fun, do you want to play? I can carry you, you know. I’m really good.”
Tang Yuan opened up her profile information—her character name was ‘Sweetheart TangYuan(Dumpling),’ Nascent Soul rank, ranked 20th on the server-wide leaderboard.
This was a new server, and the top player, ‘Skyward Era,’ was the only one in the server to have reached the Divine Transformation stage. Everyone else was still in the Nascent Soul stage. Tang Yuan herself was a late-stage Nascent Soul and had made it onto the leaderboard, which made her feel like she really had some real skills.
Each server in this game had different dungeons, so there was always something fresh to experience.
Tang Yuan genuinely thought the game was great, so she was eager to recommend it to Jiang Zi.
She clicked on the profile of the server’s number one player, Skyward Era. “I heard this person has accounts on several servers.”
“They say she’s really strong, always winning. But I haven’t run into her yet since I haven’t been playing for long.”
Tang Yuan exited back to the lobby and then looked up at Jiang Zi with bright, sparkling eyes that resembled stars in the night sky.
“Sister, you should play too. I’ll carry you, and I promise you’ll always win, too.”
“Mm… but I’ll need to register an account, you have to wait a bit.”
Tang Yuan’s voice bubbled with excitement. “No problem!”
“I’ll go listen to some game carrSeeingou take your time. No rush.”Jiang Zi
Jiang Zi, seeing how excited Tang Yuan was, tapped on the green chat bubbles and played the audio demos from the carry group.
“Good evening, sister! I’m SuSu from Club ZHOU. I’ve got accounts on three servers in Cultivation World, and my highest rank is Great Ascension. I can carry you through dungeons easily.”
“Good evening, sister! I’m LongLong from Club ZHOU. I’m sure I can offer you a unique experience.” The voice was low and sultry, like a soothing bubble sound.
Jiang Zi: Cultivation World, Server 11. Send me a new account and password.
The secretary in the group was quick, and a new account and password were sent over almost instantly.
Jiang Zi logged in on her tablet.
Meanwhile, Tang Yuan had already called in three carries.
Tang Yuan added Jiang Zi as a friend and invited the three carries into the chatroom.
“Good evening, sister! I’m SuSu.”
“Good evening, sister…”
After the three of them introduced themselves, Tang Yuan finally spoke,
“This new account in the party belongs to my sister, so make sure to take good care of her!”
Four Nascent Soul stage players, carrying a brand new Qi Refining account.
Tang Yuan patiently explained to Jiang Zi,
“We’re starting with [Secret Thunder Realm] today. It’s the new secret realm on this server, and the completion rate is only 0.01%. The game works just like those cultivation novels—exploring secret realms to find treasures and improve cultivation, and there are also dangers. You can get killed, and if we fail to clear the dungeon, we will lose ranks.”
Jiang Zi gave a small hum, indicating her understanding.
Once the dungeon began, all five players were transported to the same location.
Jiang Zi followed closely behind Tang Yuan, her gaze on the screen sharp and focused. She suddenly said: “I’m scared.”
It was probably the first time she had said something like that, so her tone was unusually flat, without any emotional rise or fall.
But Tang Yuan took her seriously.
She reassured her, “It’s okay, sister. I’ll stay with you and make sure you don’t get hurt.”
As she spoke, she pulled out a magical artefact and hooked it around Jiang Zi’s waist. The golden chain became invisible, but it was a tool that would keep their characters within a ten-step range of each other.
Didn’t this artefact cost around 5000 yuan? And is it only a one-time-use item?
The game carries couldn’t help but shed envious tears—Whale players really are on a different level.
“Sister, don’t be afraid. We’re all experienced and skilled.”
The biggest difference between a hired game carry, and random teammates is how pleasant they speak.
Jiang Zi pointed at the green diamond icon on the map. “What are these?”
“Those are resource markers. Let’s go there,” Tang Yuan immediately marked the spot on the map.
Watching the three carries leading the way ahead, Jiang Zi’s lips curved into a silent smile. Along the journey, they hacked through monsters and harvested demon cores. All the hard work wasn’t falling on them.
The carries, who are used to handling low-risk tasks, managed these challenges with ease.
“Stop, there’s something strange ahead.” One of the carry spoke with unusual seriousness. “It looks like we’ve entered a deadly trap.”
No matter what server or rank you’re in, the difficulty of a dungeon is always high for that level. The only things you can rely on are your wits and a bit of experience.
Jiang Zi intentionally kept a certain distance from Tang Yuan, but whenever Tang Yuan noticed, she would move closer towards her.
The moment the carry said they had entered a deadly trap, Jiang Zi and Tang Yuan both stepped into a teleportation circle. The world around them spun, and in the blink of an eye, they found themselves at the marked spot on the map.
Tang Yuan: “…?”
Their luck was so good?
