Chapter 75 - Encountering Another Special Constitution
“Gu Yao!”
Tian Feirong and Little Fatty rushed toward Gu Yao, but halfway through, they were stopped—who else but Chi Changye would intervene?
The two could only gaze longingly at Gu Yao. Seeing them looking like puppies wagging their tails, Gu Yao chuckled and tossed the vials of potion to them. “Little Fatty, one dose is enough for you. Tian Feirong, you’ll need three doses, but make sure to space them out at least five days apart. Otherwise, the effect won’t be as good. This is because the medicine in your system has likely been there for quite some time, making it more difficult to remove.”
“Thank you, Gu Yao.”
The two exchanged a glance and, forgetting all about breakfast, grabbed their respective potions and hurried back to their rooms. That day, they didn’t open their stall, disappointing those who had come early to line up.
Chi Changye glanced at Gu Yao’s slightly pale face and said, “Take a hot bath, eat breakfast, and then rest for a while.”
Gu Yao stretched and replied, “Alright, I’ll listen to you, Brother Ye.”
Breakfast was simple: porridge made from spiritual rice accompanied by two steamed buns. After eating his fill, Gu Yao rested for a while, practiced the Star Body Technique, and then took a nap. He woke up feeling refreshed.
In the afternoon, Tian Feirong and Little Fatty emerged from their rooms one after the other, both freshly bathed to rid themselves of the unpleasant odor. Little Fatty, eager to see the results, immediately brought out the testing device. Placing his hand on it, everyone—Gu Yao, Tian Feirong, Chi Changye, and even Xu Chen in the spatial dimension—fixed their eyes on the display to see the potion’s effect.
Sure enough, the earthy-yellow light column representing the earth spiritual root had thickened significantly. The values for the water and wood spiritual roots remained unchanged, but the earth root value had increased from 34 to 40.
Little Fatty was so excited that he jumped and shouted with joy in the courtyard. He even tried to rush over and hug Gu Yao, but a sword aura stopped him in his tracks. Making a face at Chi Changye, Little Fatty continued celebrating unabated.
The potion really worked! Gu Yao had practically performed a miracle—something even Little Fatty’s grandfather couldn’t accomplish.
If news of this potion spread, Gu Yao would undoubtedly become famous across the entire Tianlin Continent, and perhaps even beyond. However, Little Fatty also understood that Gu Yao’s current strength was insufficient to protect such a secret, so keeping the matter confidential was crucial.
In contrast, Tian Feirong hesitated, reluctant to place his hand on the testing device. Seeing his hesitation, Little Fatty gave him a push from behind, causing Tian Feirong to stumble forward and accidentally press his hand onto the device.
With a series of swish, swish, swish sounds, three light columns lit up. One of them, a fiery red, was particularly striking.
“Fire spiritual root: 45!”
Little Fatty gasped audibly. And this was without even using the enhancement potion yet! With a fire spiritual root like that, once the residual toxins in his body were fully cleared and he took the enhancement potion, Tian Feirong’s aptitude might surpass that of someone with dual spiritual roots.
Little Fatty turned to the dumbfounded Tian Feirong and asked, “Second Brother Tian, could you have some kind of special constitution? Otherwise, it’s rare for someone with three spiritual roots to have one as exceptional as your fire root.”
“This kid has a latent ‘Azure Flame Constitution’. It’s quite rare,” Xu Chen’s voice sounded in Gu Yao’s mind. “It seems the person who drugged him wasn’t trying to weaken his aptitude but to suppress his constitution. The Azure Flame Constitution, when paired with the right cultivation method, allows one to cultivate at an astonishing speed once the azure flame condenses in their dantian. This silly boy has luck on his side, I’ll give him that.”
Hearing Xu Chen use the word “silly” three times to describe Tian Feirong, Gu Yao didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He asked, “Azure Flame—is it a type of Heavenly Flame?”
“Correct. That’s why I say this silly boy is fortunate. Most people struggle their whole lives to find a single Heavenly Flame, yet he…” Xu Chen trailed off, clicking his tongue in disbelief. “Well, I admit I’m tempted to take over his body, but I won’t. Violating the Heavenly Dao isn’t worth it. Still, the azure flame won’t grow easily. Initially, it won’t be very powerful.”
As Gu Yao listened to Xu Chen explain the nuances of such a unique constitution, Chi Changye reached out and placed his hand on Tian Feirong’s wrist. Unlike Xu Chen, Chi Changye didn’t have the ability to discern Tian Feirong’s constitution at a glance, so he had to probe into his body. Tian Feirong trusted Chi Changye completely and offered no resistance as the latter’s spiritual sense entered his body.
When Chi Changye withdrew his hand, his gaze at Tian Feirong carried a hint of peculiarity. He remarked, “You likely possess a latent fire-related special constitution, though I’m not certain of the specifics. You should make good use of it in the future. Gu Yao, do you know what it is?”
Gu Yao was surprised and mentally asked Xu Chen, “Is the Azure Flame Constitution that unique? Even Brother Ye didn’t recognize it?”
Xu Chen replied, “It’s very rare. Plus, with the toxins still not fully cleared, it’s understandable if he couldn’t identify it.”
Gu Yao turned to Tian Feirong, wondering if he should reveal this discovery openly. Tian Feirong, overwhelmed by the sudden revelation of his fortune, nodded and said, “If you know, Gu Yao, please tell me.”
Choosing his words carefully, Gu Yao said, “It might be a latent Azure Flame Constitution.”
Chi Changye’s eyes flickered with surprise. He had only sensed a strong hidden fire energy within Tian Feirong and hadn’t expected it to be the Azure Flame Constitution. While he hadn’t identified it himself, he had read about such a constitution in the past. It was exceedingly rare, and he had never heard of a cultivator possessing it before. His expression grew peculiar as he remarked, “I didn’t think you’d be so lucky. Once fully awakened, it might rival the aptitude of someone with a single fire spiritual root.”
“Really?!” Tian Feirong’s eyes widened with excitement.
Chi Changye shared a few more details about the constitution, drawing on what Gu Yao had learned from Xu Chen. Tian Feirong listened with mixed emotions—joy at his newfound potential and sorrow at the realization that someone had deliberately suppressed it. If not for meeting Gu Yao, who could neutralize the toxins, he would have spent his life wasting away in Yuanyang Town, blaming himself for his supposed lack of talent.
Little Fatty, meanwhile, was green with envy. However, seeing Tian Feirong’s conflicted expression, he held back any complaints. Instead, he patted Tian Feirong on the shoulder in consolation.
Tian Feirong brushed away his lingering gloom and returned the gesture, even giving Little Fatty a light punch. No matter what, this was a stroke of incredible fortune for him. From now on, he wouldn’t have to struggle endlessly with stagnant cultivation progress.
“Gu Yao, thank you. You’re my savior. From now on, I’ll work hard in cultivation and be your bodyguard!” Tian Feirong vowed with a firm slap to his chest.
Gu Yao playfully punched him back and said with a grin, “We’re a small team of four now, so of course, we help each other out. But Second Brother Tian, wait until all the toxins are cleared from your body before deciding whether to use the enhancement potion.”
“Alright, I’ll listen to you, Gu Yao.”
Later, when Gu Yao and Chi Changye were alone, Chi Changye observed his expression and asked, “Are you envious? You don’t need to be. Your talent in alchemy is already your greatest asset, with limitless potential.” He wanted to tell Gu Yao that he was someone who could create miracles.
Resting his chin on his hand, Gu Yao smiled and replied, “A little envious, perhaps. But it’s not something I have to have. Second Brother Tian has his opportunities, and I’ll have mine. So will you, Brother Ye. Among the four of us, your talent is actually the greatest.”
Chi Changye chuckled and ruffled Gu Yao’s hair. “Having talent is great, but it doesn’t guarantee you’ll make it to the end. Take me, for example. If I hadn’t been lucky enough to get swept into a spatial rift, I would’ve died at someone else’s hands long ago. If I hadn’t been taken to Yuanyang Town as an ordinary person, I might have been killed with a single stroke by someone or eaten by the beasts outside—dying without a trace. So, while talent is important, other factors are equally crucial.”
“I understand.” Gu Yao nodded earnestly, then suddenly brightened with excitement. “Brother Ye, do you think I could someday modify myself into a Heavenly Spirit Constitution using enhancement potions? A natural Wood Spirit Constitution and Fire Spirit Constitution—if combined—should make a Heavenly Spirit Constitution. I imagine that means achieving a score of 100, right?”
Hearing this, Xu Chen, from within the spatial ring, was dumbfounded. ‘This kid sure dares to dream big. He wants to turn himself into a Heavenly Spirit Constitution? Why not take it further and turn himself into an immortal who’s already ascended? Is there anything he doesn’t dare to think of?’
Though Chi Changye was startled by Gu Yao’s wild imagination, he still gave the idea some serious thought before replying. “If you work toward that goal, it might be possible to get very close. But, Xiao Yao, don’t become overly fixated on innate talent and overlook other important aspects.”
What Chi Changye didn’t tell Gu Yao was that the Heavenly Spirit Constitution typically only appeared in cultivators with a Heavenly Spiritual Root. The idea of two Heavenly Spirit Constitutions existing in one person was unheard of. But then again… maybe miracles could happen.
In Gu Yao’s presence, Chi Changye found himself breaking many of his usual principles.
Gu Yao clenched his fists in excitement. “Brother Ye, I understand. I’ve realized that cultivation is the foundation. With a strong cultivation base and a longer lifespan, I’ll have the chance to delve into these kinds of studies. Besides, there are countless other potions and pills waiting for me to explore. I won’t become overly obsessed with just one thing.”
Chi Changye’s gaze softened. Even Xu Chen, observing from the spatial space, couldn’t bear to watch anymore. ‘This silly kid,’ he thought.
After this conversation, the four people in the courtyard threw themselves into their cultivation with unprecedented enthusiasm. Supported by Gu Yao’s pills, their progress was visibly rapid.
In this world, even at Tianfu Academy, no matter how many spirit stones one had, without sufficient cultivation, those resources would slip through their fingers.
For several days, the group didn’t set up their stall, leaving the people outside restless and impatient. Various rumors started circulating. The most prominent one claimed that their supply of pills had been cut off, suggesting their success would soon come to an end. Others sought to recruit Chi Changye, whose high cultivation and formidable combat abilities made him a valuable asset. However, no one could even get close to him. Breaking down the door to force a meeting would only serve to offend him severely, defeating their purpose entirely.
Only the people from the Miaoyun Pavilion could meet Gu Yao and his group daily since the pills needed to be delivered regularly. However, the supply was limited. As Gu Yao explained, “I’m just one person, and my energy is limited each day.” Even Tao Yue couldn’t do much about it; after all, she couldn’t possibly keep him under watch 24/7 to force him to refine pills without rest.
At the Miaoyun Pavilion, Tao Yue returned upstairs after dealing with a crowd eager to purchase beauty-enhancing pills. She looked at the group with a glimmer of hope and asked, “How’s the research on the pill going? Were you able to break down its composition?”
Tao Yue had previously negotiated with Tian Feirong and the little chubby one, trying to buy the pill formula outright. But none of them were fools; the formula was like a golden goose that could continuously lay eggs. Selling it would be akin to killing the goose for a one-time gain, which was obviously not worth it.
