Tron: A User's Rise

Chapter 11: Birth Of A New Protector

[3rd Pov]

Jay flew through Argon, celebrating his getaway, only for multiple recognizers to pop up behind him.

"Oh, come on!" Jay yelled in frustration as they began charging their plasma cannons.

The recognizers then began firing upon Jay as he began to barrel roll, dodging the shots fired at him, trying to avoid getting riddled with holes. Evading the lasers shot at him, he swooped in a large arc, flying toward one of the recognizers before breaking through its windshield.

"Surrender or be derezzed!" A sentry shouted as Jay landed in the cockpit.

"Yeah, no." Kicking a sentry in the face, he dodges a staff strike before twirling and kicking another sentry away.

Grabbing a staff that one of them dropped, he blocks two sentries attacks as he then quickly leg sweeps them before throwing the staff at another sentry's chest, knocking him down. Morphing his fingers into claws and stabbing them into the control console.

After sabotaging the controls, he promptly throws himself out the window. Seeing the ship crash to the ground, Jay winces as he watches it explode.

'Ooh… I should've thought about that happening.' He thought as he saw programs fleeing from the crash site.

He didn't have time to think about it any longer because the ships kept chasing him. Jay tried to lose them as he flew in loops and barrel rolls. He flew for a while until the shots were beginning to become way too close for him to be comfortable with.

"Alright… time I lose these guys." Grunting, Jay used his wings to push himself into the clouds for cover, effectively hiding himself from his chasers.

The recognizers flew by as he sat in the clouds, waiting for the right moment to leave. The ships scoured the area for a little while before abandoning their search. When they finally left, he exited the cloud only to find a light chopper behind him.

'How did I not see that?' He deadpans before diving right as he was shot at.

The light chopper began chasing him as he tried to lose it. As he dodged multiple blasts, he got an idea. It was stupid, really stupid, but it could work. The light chopper was not giving up on chasing him, so spreading open his wings, he let the air push him back into the light chopper as he crashed through its windshield.

"Why is it you're all so intent on catching me?" He said to the program who piloted the light chopper.

Looking up, he realized it was the woman he had seen before. She looked to be Asian, though she had grayish, almost pale-looking skin. The back of her head was shaved while the front was in what looked like a pixie cut with long bangs that covered one of her eyes. The woman said nothing as she took off her disc.

Jay equipped his disc without delay as the woman's blade came down on him. Blocking, he uses her momentum to get behind her by sidestepping before he kicks her in the back, causing her to stumble and hit the wall.

Growling, the woman pushes herself off the wall and lunges at Jay as she begins slashing at him from different directions. Dodging, he grabs her arm before slamming her into the wall, making her grunt in pain as he holds her there.

"You're good. Not many programs last this long against me. Name's Paige." The woman groans as she's squished between the wall and Jay.

"Really… we're doing introductions now? What happened to trying to kill me a second ago?" Jay scoffed sarcastically.

"You know~, you could work with us instead. I can get you into a high position in Tesler's army. I am a commander after all." Paige offered.

"Mmm, no." Jay smiled.

"Fine then." Using her free hand, she elbows Jay in the side, loosening his grip just enough to slip his grasp before kicking him in the face.

They continued their fight in the cramped light chopper space until Jay had just about enough of their going back and forth. Grabbing both her hands, he pins her to the wall.

"Oh~, if you wanted to roughhouse, all you had to do was ask." Paige teased.

Jay felt a shiver go down his spine before he responded.

"Tempting, although I'd love to stay and chat, I really gotta go." He smirked before picking her up and tossing her into the cockpit.

As he was about to jump out of the light chopper, he turned back to Paige, who was getting up from her awkward landing position.

"Seriously though, follow me and you'll end up like that crashed recognizer." He threatened morphing his nails into claws and leaving a gash across the wall of the light chopper before jumping out of the light chopper, disappearing as he dove through clouds.

Paige ran to look out the light chopper glaring at where Jay vanished. Running her fingers over the gash Jay left, she growled in frustration before taking control of the vehicle once more.

The black guard hid in a far corner of the club, sitting in a slightly concealed spot, waiting for the mystery program he had recently fought to meet him. He didn't want to be seen by anyone after everything that had happened, as he was sure General Tesler would send people to search for them.

Relaxing in his seat, he calmed down a bit as he sipped the energy. He was still bruised from his fight, though he'd heal with time and rest. Sighing, he closed his eyes before hearing the sound of someone sitting across from him.

"Man, you looked jacked up." He heard an exhausted-sounding voice tell him.

"And whose fault is that?" The black guard replied as he opened his eyes.

"Point taken. By the way, I never got your name." The cloaked man asked.

"It's Silas." He said.

"Mine's Jay. We've got a lot to talk about." Jay said to Silas.

"I suppose we do." Silas said as he took another sip of his drink.

I squinted at the glass of energy in Silas' hand. From my memories, it was the main source of sustenance for programs. If a program didn't have energy for a period of time, they'd grow tired, and if they went long enough without it, they'd die. However, I don't know what effects it can have on me since I'm not from this world.

"What? Would you like some?" Silas asked as he swished his drink around.

Staring at him, I just shrugged before waving over a bar attendant and ordering an energy drink. Once I had gotten my drink, I stared at the slightly blue glowing drink in my hand. Glancing up, I see Silas giving me a strange look.

"Just a bit tired." It wasn't really a lie per se. I did feel fatigued mentally and physically, but a lot less than I thought I should be.

Retracting my helmet, I took a swig of the drink. It tasted like cool water, not what I expected. Setting my glass down, I felt a rejuvenating force wash over me as if all the aches and stress in my body just vanished. I also noticed the lines on my suit pulsed brighter than usual for a few moments before calming down.

"That is… unusual." Silas expressed as he stared at my arms.

"Why's that?"

"Because I have never seen any program have their circuitry pulse like that before. The only thing I can think of that is remotely close to that is General Tesler's energy gauntlets." He explained.

"Guess I'm special. Though I think it's time for us to go now."

"Go where? Tesler's army is probably scouring the entire city for us."

"We're going to go to a place where we won't be found, but I need to know if I can trust you. If I can't..." I left the last words up to interpretation.

"Understood." He said.

"Great. Now let's go."

Jay and Silas were now traversing the outlands, riding away from the city to let the manhunt die down a bit. As they rode silently, Silas couldn't help but question Jay.

"Where are we going?"

"You'll see." Jay said.

Riding for a bit longer, they began approaching a huge chasm in their path.

"Jay?" Silas questioned worriedly.

Jay ignored him as they kept driving.

"Jay?!" He shouted this time.

"Relax, just trust me." Jay finally responded to him as he sped up.

As they were about to go over and into the chasm, a path became visible as they drove on it before disappearing as they rode over it. Jay only looked over at Silas with a grin. Silas only snorted at him as he wasn't very amused. Entering into a tunnel, they rode up it until they found themselves in a bay-looking area.

"This is our stop." Jay said as he got off his light cycle and turned it into a baton.

Silas, doing the same, began following Jay into the building. Multiple doors opened as some scanners began scanning the two before letting them through. As they finally made it into the main room, Silas began looking around the space.

"Tron, I'm back!" Jay shouted.

As soon as that name left his mouth, Silas' eyes basically bulged out of their sockets as he snapped his head to a lone program staring at a large holographic computer.

"I see you've brought a guest. I didn't expect you to show anyone else this place so quickly." Tron grunted in annoyance.

"Can he be trusted?" He questioned as he turned around to look at the two.

"I think he can be. After all, he did help me save a light rail full of programs." Jay said, patting a still-shocked Silas' on the shoulder.

"Y-you're Tron." Silas stuttered out.

"I am."

"He is."

Tron and Jay said at the same time.

"So, have you made your decision?" Tron asked, turning to Jay.

"I have." Jay said.

Silas stood to the side silently, still confused at what was happening.

"Do you understand the responsibility that you'll have to take on?" Tron asked again.

"If bringing Clu down is the key to what I'm looking for, then bring it on." Jay said with resolve.

Without saying anything, Tron took off his disc before splitting it into two, one black and one white. Stretching out the white disc to Jay, Jay takes it as he takes off his own before clamping both discs together, a low pulsating sound heard after they bond to each other.

"You sure this is safe?" He questioned.

"Yes." Tron said.

Staring at Tron blankly, he glances back to his now white and blue disc before slowly placing it onto his back. As he did, he collapsed to the floor as a surge of energy began entering his body.

"AAAAAAAH!" Jay howled in pain, clutching his head as he was enveloped by white and blue energy.

"This should be possible." Tron said, watching the scene unfold.

"What is happening?!" Silas yelled as he watched Jay struggling.

"I don't know. Transferring my abilities and characteristics should have been a smooth process... unless..."

Tron and Silas could only watch as Jay struggled to stay conscious. He felt hot and cold at the same time. It was like he was being put in boiling water and then tossed into the freezing cold.

'Shit, shit, shit. Come on, Jay. Breath." After a string of cursing, Jay began trying to focus on his breathing.

Taking deep breaths, he held his head before remembering the energy manipulation ability he had used once before. With literally no other options, as he was in too much pain to really move, he attempted to use the ability to try and condense the wild energy around him and absorb it.

'Damn, this is harder when I'm not doing it subconsciously.' He thought as he struggled to control the energy.

Gritting his teeth, Jay used every ounce of energy he could muster to struggle and try to control the raging energy. Roaring in pain, he finally manages to reel back the energy into his body. Once he did, his suit began morphing until a new suit formed.

In place of his previous suit is a new white and blue one with glowing circuitry. The suit is a lot more buff than his normal one. His suit, which was already sturdy like armor, is now lined in plating that covers most of his body. And the centerpiece of it all is the glowing "T" on his chest.

"Seriously…" Jay groaned painfully as he struggled to breathe.

"I… hate my life… right now." Jay managed to force his words out as he spoke dryly before falling on his face and passing out.
