Chapter 14: Chapter 14
'Hey, Vampire'
For a moment, Edward Cullen didn't react.
A moment later, however, his eyes widened and his jaw almost dropped as he looked at the Human before him.
Alice quickly noticed the change in his expression as she raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Edward?" Alice questioned, her voice slightly raised in confusion.
Edward didn't even look at his sister, his eyes glued onto Arthur, their gaze almost piercing.
Without wasting another moment, he asked.
"How?"
Arthur simply looked at him for a moment without saying anything.
Alice quickly noticed that the change in Edward's expression had been caused by Arthur and so she turned her confused look toward him.
"I can't really tell you the exact details on how and why I know, It's more that I don't want you to know though it might slip into my thoughts, either way, I just didn't want to hide the fact that I knew as it's honestly quite tiring, especially considering that Alice seems to be my so called 'Mate' if I'm not wrong," Arthur said, his words low almost a whisper as he voiced them out.
The more he spoke, the more the confusion on Alice's expression turned into pure shock.
At the end of his words, Alice looked and felt so shocked that she could only mutter the same words that her brother had uttered moments ago.
"How?!"
However, Arthur didn't repeat himself again and he obviously didn't want to delve into how he knew this information.
For a few moments, silence engulfed the table. Neither of the three said a word with the only sound being the chattering in the background from the other restaurant customers.
It was Edward who broke the silence.
"I see, well then considering what you just said you also know about our gifts?"
"Yes, telepathy and selective future sight or more like partial future visions," Arthur replied with a soft voice whilst giving a shallow nod of his head.
"You even know about that," Alice muttered as she continued to stare at Arthur, her cold amber eyes unblinking, giving her an even more unnatural look than usual. Even her body was completely still so unlike a Human. Even if a Human had tried to maintain that same stillness they wouldn't have been able to, it was simply an impossible task.
"With that aside, I think we should order some food, or rather I should. You're still treating me to a meal right?" Arthur asked as he showed a small smile on his expression.
It was almost instinctive from Alice as she gave a nod in return.
"Thanks," Arthur replied to her nod before turning around and lifting his arm to signal the waiter to come.
"You're ready to take your orders?" The waiter asked after he arrived at their table seconds after.
"Yeah, I'd like a medium sized pepperoni pizza with a coke on the side please," Arthur said causing the waiter to bring out a small notepad and pen before quickly writing down Arthur's order.
The man then turned toward Edward and Alice who quickly ordered two bowls of salad and a bottle of sparkling water each.
"Will that be all?"
"Yes, thank you," Arthur replied causing the Waiter to give him a nod before turning around and heading toward the kitchen.
"So are you really just a regular human?"
It was Alice who had spoken up first this time.
Arthur slightly tilted his head to the right as he made an expression indicating that he was thinking about the question.
It was a few moments later that he answered Alice's question.
"I'm actually unsure, I show all of the qualities of a human and I most certainly don't need any kind of other food besides what regular humans need, though I do show some unusual capabilities that might be borderline supernatural," Arthur replied causing Edward and Alice to raise an eyebrow as they clearly asked Arthur to continue and describe more in detail just what exactly he meant by those words.
However, Arthur didn't continue on, until Alice couldn't hold back her curiosity anymore.
"Like what?"
"Like having an almost supernatural level of control over my muscles as well as having increased senses, like smell, sight, hearing, and touch. The only thing that's completely normal about my body is my brain, unfortunately. It's quite saddening." Arthur replied as he released a sigh.
"Saddening? Wouldn't most boys your age want supernatural strength and senses rather than intelligence?" Edward questioned.
Arthur turned his gaze toward the vampire before giving a light chuckle.
"You're really old, aren't you? More than a hundred?" Arthur questioned causing Edward to frown slightly.
It was at this moment that Alice came closer to Arthur suddenly and whispered.
"Careful, he's pretty sensitive about his age."
For a moment Arthur didn't know how to react, and in the next, he almost felt like laughing out loud.
A vampire being sensitive about his age.
'You really learn something new every day.' Arthur thought before shaking his head in disbelief.
"Either way, yeah I would much prefer having increased mental capabilities rather than physical ones, in this day and age strength and the like are essentially useless in having a successful future as a businessman."
"So your dream is to be a businessman?" Alice questioned as she put her arm on the table and held her chin with her hand whilst looking at Arthur.
"Yes, that's my dream, becoming a successful businessman and living in a three hundred and sixty five bedroom house so that I can change my bedroom every night for the entire year. If possible I'd like three hundred and sixty five bathrooms as well." Arthur replied his face maintaining a completely blank expression whilst his voice sounded as serious as ever.
Edward and Alice were one more left speechless as they looked at Arthur, wondering if he really had just announced what he had as his dream.
Edward broke the silence again for what felt like the hundredth time in this conversation.
"You really are a weird one, Arthur. I can't imagine what those teachers see in you. I'm starting to see why you're Alice's mate more and more, however." Edward said before releasing a long winded sigh.
