Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Truly Sweet
After returning from the front lines, Uchiha Yo went to the Hokage building to report in and then to the Uchiha compound for further debriefing.
But before he could settle in at home, he ran into Uchiha Mikoto, whose emotions had clearly been disturbed.
Inside the house, it was unclear how much time had passed. From the intermittent sound of crying, the aftermath of their "battle" was evident.
The room was a complete mess, with signs of their struggle starting at the entrance and continuing all the way up the stairs to the bedroom.
"Yo-kun, I'm… I'm sorry," Mikoto said, her body covered in red marks, her face full of guilt.
Uchiha Yo, exhausted, shook his head.
"Mikoto, lie down. I'll heal your injuries with medical ninjutsu."
Mikoto obeyed, lying on the bed as Uchiha Yo's hands glowed faintly green with basic healing chakra.
As he worked, Mikoto's eyes brimmed with tears, her voice quivering as she cried softly.
"Yo-kun… during the mission… my teammate… I watched Sakurako get killed right before my eyes. It was all because we let our guard down…
We were passing through a village after completing the mission. We saw an old man who seemed pitiful, so Sakurako gave him some food. But the next moment, that man went berserk!"
Her pupils, glowing faintly with the two tomoe of her Sharingan, reflected her guilt and rage.
"That man was terrifying. He had no chakra at all, but in an instant, he turned into a monster. Then he… he bit Sakurako's neck. I could only watch as she gasped for air, staring at me…"
Hearing Mikoto's account, Uchiha Yo frowned. A man with no chakra suddenly becoming a monster? It sounded eerily similar to certain pieces of intelligence he'd encountered.
Still, seeing the anguish in Mikoto's expression, Uchiha Yo sighed deeply.
This savage shinobi world, though advanced in some ways, was also unbearably cruel.
Mikoto had grown up with him, but her status was far from simple. She was the granddaughter of Elder Setsuna and one of the rare female prodigies of the Uchiha clan.
The Uchiha's Sharingan awakening often left them teetering on the edge of emotional collapse. The special chakra that surged in their minds during activation made their emotions unstable, resulting in what could only be described as psychological turmoil.
Almost every Uchiha had to go through a period of instability after awakening their Sharingan before they reached emotional balance.
…In the bathroom…
"Yo-kun, thank you."
Mikoto's voice was soft as she relaxed, finally regaining some peace of mind.
Uchiha Yo, yawning lazily, emerged from the bath and threw on a robe. He stretched luxuriously, muttering, "This damn noble life… I'm starting to love it."
"Mikoto, you're Elder Setsuna's granddaughter. Do you have any idea how risky this is for me? If the clan finds out, well… you know."
Uchiha Yo rubbed his fingers together in a "pay up" gesture, causing Mikoto to laugh despite herself.
"Well, little brother, how much do you want this time?"
"Mikoto, we've known each other since we were kids, but look at you. That sword, those explosive tags, the steel wires, the soldier pills… these are all precious resources. And me? I don't even have my Sharingan yet."
As Uchiha Yo rambled, Mikoto reclined in the bath, her eyes closed, a rare look of relaxation softening her features. She knew he was just trying to lighten her mood and distract her.
"I don't have that much money," she teased. "What if I repay you… in kind?"
Mikoto's tone was mischievous, her words completely at odds with her usual gentle and reserved demeanor. The stark contrast, likely exacerbated by her newly awakened Sharingan, left Uchiha Yo coughing in embarrassment.
"Mikoto, don't joke about things like that! If anyone heard you, Elder Setsuna would skin me alive."
The lighthearted exchange eased the tension. Mikoto, now calmer, stepped out of the bath.
Young Mikoto was stunning, her figure far more alluring than her modest clothing usually revealed. Though Uchiha Yo had seen it all before, it still made him clear his throat and avert his eyes.
"Here."
Mikoto retrieved a scroll from her wardrobe, her demeanor shifting back to the composed and caring persona she was known for.
"This contains advanced techniques: a higher-level shurikenjutsu, kenjutsu, and a B-rank lightning release ninjutsu—Lightning Release: False Darkness. Study it carefully. The battlefield in the Land of Rain is brutal."
Catching the scroll, Uchiha Yo grinned.
"Mikoto, you're the best. Truly sweet."
Mikoto blushed slightly, her calm exterior cracking for a moment. She knew her recent behavior was uncharacteristic, influenced by the heightened emotions from her Sharingan's evolution.
The advanced techniques in the scroll were a testament to her concern for him, ensuring his survival on the battlefield. Though only a Genin with a year's experience, Uchiha Yo's training and clan resources had already pushed his strength to the level of a Chunin.
However, in war, even Jonin-level chakra reserves could fall short. Techniques like kenjutsu and shurikenjutsu offered vital alternatives, saving chakra and increasing his chances of survival.
Mikoto's gift was practical. After all, as an Uchiha, his ninja tools—explosive tags, kunai, and other equipment—far surpassed those of ordinary shinobi.
"Take your time with the lightning release. It's a B-rank jutsu, and difficult to learn. But on the Land of Rain battlefield, our clan's fire release is limited. You need to adapt."
Mikoto's voice carried a rare seriousness, and Uchiha Yo nodded solemnly.
"Mikoto, the kenjutsu and shurikenjutsu I can manage, but this advanced lightning release…"
"It's fine. I've already arranged everything with the clan. Your lightning release affinity is invaluable, especially for the Land of Rain."
Hearing this, Uchiha Yo's grin widened.
Even in a clan as prideful as the Uchiha, politics and connections still held sway.
"Yo, meet me at the village gates in three days. I'll be avenging Sakurako myself."
Seeing Mikoto's emotions flare again, Uchiha Yo feigned surprise before smiling.
"Mikoto, let's keep things separate. The earlier incident is settled, but this mission sounds dangerous… I'll need extra compensation."
With a soft thud, Mikoto hurled a pillow at him. Uchiha Yo caught it, laughing nervously.
"Alright, alright! No need to get mad. But at least cover the cost of my ninja tools for this mission…"
Mikoto ignored him, vaulting out of the window.
As the breeze caught her hair, her seemingly annoyed expression gave way to a light smile.
She knew Uchiha Yo was simply trying to stabilize her emotions, knowing how volatile they were after her Sharingan's evolution.
Watching Mikoto disappear into the distance, Uchiha Yo's lips curled into a smile.
Planting seeds of trust, subtly influencing allies… this is the first step toward changing the fate of the Uchiha.
