Chapter 21: Torn Between Two Worlds
Deun had become something special to Nat. She wasn't just a cricket player Nat admired anymore; she had become a constant thought in Nat's mind. But as much as Nat cherished her growing feelings for Deun, the looming pressure of final exams started to overshadow everything.
Nat sat in her room, the weight of her thoughts heavy in the air. Her textbooks lay open in front of her, but her mind was elsewhere. What should I do? she wondered. She felt torn. She had someone important in her life now, someone who made her heart race, but at the same time, the reality of her final exams was bearing down on her.
She glanced at the framed photos of her great grandparents on her desk. They had always been a source of comfort, their wisdom and kindness echoing in her heart. Nat reached out, touching the frame gently, as if they could feel her longing.
"Hey, my G-Pops, G-Nans," Nat whispered softly to herself. "I'm missing you. The exams are coming, and I don't know what to do. I think I'm in love… yeah, I'm sure of it. But I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing. I think I'm in love with a girl. And every time I think of her, or even hear her name, my heart races. It feels like I'm the luckiest person in the world, but I don't know what to do next. Before I met her, I only had one goal—what my parents wanted me to do, to become a police officer. But now… now, I don't want to be a police officer anymore. I just want to be happy. And I want Deun."
She paused, feeling the weight of her own words. What will I do now?
With a heavy sigh, Nat pushed the confusion aside and went upstairs to study. But before she opened her books, her fingers instinctively went to her phone. She checked Instagram. This time, there was no rejection.
A sense of relief washed over her, and for the first time in days, Nat felt a spark of hope. She put her phone down and began studying, trying to focus on the upcoming exams. But the thoughts of Deun wouldn't leave her mind.
As the days passed, Nat juggled both her studies and her feelings for Deun. Every free moment was spent checking her phone, her hope rising each time she saw an update from Lin, Deun's close friend. Whenever Lin posted something on her Instagram story, Nat's heart would leap, hoping that there might be a glimpse of Deun, a hint of anything that could tell her where she stood with her.
Deun, where are you? Are you okay? Nat thought to herself often, especially when there was no response from Deun.
Despite the uncertainty, Nat made a silent vow to herself. I'll wait for you. No matter what.
