Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Shadows and Secrets
Oscar's encounter with Kaito left him with more questions than answers. Who was this mysterious guitarist, and what lay behind his piercing blue eyes?
As the days passed, Oscar found himself drawn to Kaito's charismatic personality. They spent their lunch breaks exploring the school's hidden corners, discussing music, and sharing stories.
One afternoon, as they sat on a bench, Kaito began to play a soulful melody on his guitar. Oscar listened, entranced, as the music seemed to weave a spell around them.
But as the music faded away, Oscar noticed Mitch watching them from across the courtyard. Mitch's eyes narrowed, and his gaze seemed to bore into Oscar's very soul.
Oscar felt a shiver run down his spine as Mitch approached him after class. "I saw what you did to those thugs," Mitch said, his voice low. "That power was similar to the Time Gods. Wait, you're one of them, huh?"
Oscar's instincts kicked in, and he prepared for a fight. But before he could react, Mitch lunged at him.
The two boys clashed, their fists flying. Oscar's retract ability kicked in, and he switched places with Mitch. For a moment, Mitch's power surged through Oscar's veins.
But Oscar's grip on Mitch's power was tenuous at best. He felt a chill run down his spine as he realized the true extent of Mitch's abilities.
Mitch, however, seemed to sense that Oscar wasn't a threat. He relaxed, and his power surged back into him.
As they stood there, panting, Mitch's expression softened. "Hey, my bad," he said, holding out his hand. "I didn't mean to jump you like that."
Oscar's eyes narrowed, but he shook Mitch's hand. "It's okay, I can handle myself."
Mitch grinned. "I can see that. So, what's your deal, dude?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. "You're not like anyone I've met before."
Oscar raised an eyebrow, feeling a sense of unease. How much did Mitch know? And what did he want?
"I'm just a normal guy," Oscar said, trying to downplay his abilities.
Mitch chuckled. "Normal guys don't take down thugs with ease. You've got something special, Oscar. Something that sets you apart."
Oscar's eyes locked onto Mitch's, searching for any sign of ulterior motives. But all he saw was genuine curiosity.
As they walked out of the school, Oscar noticed a girl with curly brown hair watching him from across the courtyard. She seemed to be staring at him with a mixture of curiosity and concern.
Oscar felt a sense of unease, wondering why she was watching him. But before he could approach her, she turned and walked away.
The next day, Oscar walked into school, still thinking about his encounter with Mitch. Who was this guy, and what did he want?
As he made his way to his locker, he noticed the girl from the courtyard standing next to him. She was trying to open her locker, but it seemed to be stuck.
Oscar rushed to help her, and as they both reached for the locker, it swung open, and a weird mask fell out.
Oscar's eyes widened in surprise as he bent down to pick up the mask. Joyce, the girl, was standing next to him, looking just as surprised as he was.
"Hey, I'm Oscar," he said, holding out his hand.
Joyce smiled, taking his hand in a firm handshake. "I'm Joyce," she replied.
As they stood there, Oscar felt a sense of ease wash over him. Maybe this chance encounter would lead to something more.
"So, what's with the mask?" Oscar asked, curiosity getting the better of him.
Joyce laughed. "Oh, it's just a little something I like to wear sometimes," she said, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Oscar raised an eyebrow. "A little something? It looks pretty intense."
Joyce grinned. "Let's just say I have a bit of a wild side," she said, her voice dripping with mischief.
Oscar chuckled. "I think I can handle it," he said, smiling.
As they stood there, chatting, Oscar realized that he had found a new friend. And he was excited to see where their friendship would take them.
Later that week, as Oscar was getting his books from his locker, he noticed a tall, lanky guy standing next to him, blocking the space with his back to Oscar. It was Sam, a guy Oscar had seen around but never really talked to before.
"Hey, can you step aside? I'm trying to grab my books," Oscar asked, politely but with a hint of irritation.
Sam turned with a smirk, his eyes glinting mischievously. "My bad," he said, stepping to the side just slightly. "Guess this is a pretty sweet spot, huh?" He gave a small chuckle.
Oscar raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, looks like it," he replied, trying to make his way into his locker. "We're next to each other all the time, but we've never really talked."
"True," Sam said, his smirk turning into a grin. "Guess we're both kind of in the background. Well, now we're talking."
Oscar shrugged, feeling a bit uncomfortable but amused. "I guess so."
"Anyway, I've got to get going. Class time," Sam said, giving Oscar a nod before turning to head off down the hall.
"Yeah, same here," Oscar muttered, before grabbing his books and walking to his own class.
As Oscar made his way through the halls, he couldn't help but wonder what Sam was really like. It was odd to run into someone so familiar yet so distant. He hoped they'd have a chance to talk again soon.
