chapter 8
8. The Screams in the Dungeon
“Let’s learn adventurer work too.”
Testia, Black was the first to speak. It had been two weeks since she had been living with Wicker.
“Are you on an adventure? Are we?”
Yuri and White were terrified, their ears and tail hanging down.
“Look at Luca. It’s only been two weeks since I learned the sword from Mr. Wicker. But you’ve already become that strong.”
“Jam.”
Lucas, the yellow one proudly spread her breasts. At her feet drooped three large wildboars they had hunted for supper.
“But only Luca may have a special talent….”
“I know how to use simple magic too. I’ve been self-taught on the mana circulation method since the old days.”
Blackie curled her hands and concentrated on her, then she muttered her incantation in a small voice. Then, a small spark rose between her palms.
“Tia is great too. But she says I’m not good at anything.”
“Yuri is praying every day. How about being a healer?”
“Wouldn’t it be difficult? I’ve never heard the goddess’ answer….”
“Isn’t the heart important? If the three of us go, there will be no one to act as the rearguard.”
“Ummm….”
After thinking a little bit, Hayang finally made up his mind and clenched his fists tightly.
“Okay. I also don’t want to be a nuisance to my brother. You can’t live as an insectivore for the rest of your life.”
“It’s a decision. Then, first, let’s ask Mr. Wicker to tell us about her magic and healing arts.”
That night, Black and White immediately asked Wicker to teach them like Yellow. But the answer was not positive.
“Magic and Healing? Whoops, I’m an outsider there. That won’t help.”
Hearing Wicker’s answer, the two were disappointed as if they had lost their country. Wicker immediately came up with an alternative.
“Do you want to learn magic? I’ll buy you a primer at the shopping mall tomorrow. Free the face A ghost will appear.”
Black and White were once again moved by his thoughtfulness. Originally, there was no reason for a slave trader to spend a penny for the wishes of a slave.
However, Wicker never refused the trio’s request. Rather, he tended to take care of things first.
The three gradually got used to his warmth. Like a soft pillow that you can’t sleep without.
Now I don’t want to let go anymore.
“There are three main types of magic: mana, faith, and spirit. The one I use is magic type, and Yuri is faith type.”
“The higher the hierarchy, the stronger the magic. From 0 to 10…. The one Tia showed me must be level 0. I guess I’ll have to start with mana cycles….”
“Should I come if I put mana in my sword?”
The three continued to study and practice together without a break. Yellowy, who knows the letters well, read the contents several times. The primer quickly wore out and became tattered.
“Magic Arrow!”
“Breast, minor wound healing.”
In three days, the two learned first-level magic on their own.
The three of them, who had been united for four days, went to the city without Wicker’s knowledge and moved to the adventurer’s guild.
They liked the guild. The adventurers were all exuding a free atmosphere that was not constrained anywhere.
“I want to register as an adventurer.”
Blackie spoke to the Vigorously. She frowned slightly.
“I’ll check, but being an adventurer comes with a lot of risk. Has the owner decided that the three of you are suitable for adventurers?”
The three of them were a little taken aback because they hadn’t thought of such a question. Still, Black pushed ahead with momentum.
“No, of course. If you don’t know, I’m an elf. She is older than you.”
Somehow, I even lied and bluffed myself.
Even though she was an elf, her age was not that much different from those of yellow or white.
Fortunately, the receptionist didn’t have much knowledge about the elf’s age.
“… All right. The three of you don’t seem to have a unique identification name, but you need a name to register as an adventurer, so please write a pseudonym at least.”
There was no problem here. The three of them each had a name to call each other.
The receptionist sighed and issued an adventurer’s license to the three.
It was common for slave owners to send their slaves to the guild to work as adventurers in order to earn a pittance.
‘No matter how hard he is, he still pampers these children.’
Although Elend was a very large city and there were dangerous dungeons being explored nearby, news came that one of the adventurers who accepted the request had died.
Still, her mere receptionist had no right to refuse her permit.
This city, an imperial territory, was somehow increasing the number of people fighting, whether it be adventurers or soldiers, in order to increase national power.
If she refuses to issue her permit, she will be punished for a felony.
The names Lucas, Testia, and Yuri.
The three accepted each permit with a small mana stone embedded in it and were delighted like children who received a gift for the first time.
“I want to receive a request right away.”
The owners of these children must have starved if they couldn’t meet their quota. With that thought in mind, the receptionist selected a highly paid one from among the safe collection requests and presented it.
Yellow read the contents and immediately rejected it.
“Are you having problems?”
Black asked the receptionist, raising the corner of her mouth. The receptionist was a little taken aback when he heard that.
“I’ll ask for something that can fight monsters.”
***
Time passed again, one day after a month had passed since I met Wicker.
The three of them were together on the second basement floor of a dungeon located in northern Elend.
“It’s pretty much the same now. The connection was good.”
“Ugh… Goblins look scary.”
“Fun.”
The three of them were returning to the upper level entrance.
“No matter how interesting it is, you have to go in before Mr. Wicker comes back. I’m sure you’ll be worried if you get caught doing adventure work.”
“Yes. I want to boast proudly after I can take care of myself a little more.”
“Wait. I have a sign.”
At the warning of the yellow, the three skillfully took a combat posture. Soon, a woman with a name tag of Appeared in front of them and started talking to them.
“Hey guys, why are you in a dangerous dungeon without a guardian?”
The other party was also an adventurer, but the three of them did not let go of their guard. I’ve heard that it’s common in dungeons for cornered adventurers to plunder and turn into thieves.
“Are all three slaves? Did the owner tell you to go to the dungeon and earn money? How can that be, to such young children….”
Yellow, Black, and White noticed each other. They knew they would look peculiar, so they hadn’t been in contact with other adventurers as long as possible.
“Who are you guys?”
The woman asked a question. Realizing the children were clearly wary, she waved her hand with a friendly look.
“I am not trying to scold you guys. It is wrong to send a child to a dungeon, even if it is a slave. So….”
“Why do you care about that?”
The woman answered Black’s question by placing her hand on her chest.
“It’s because I can’t wait and see. I will go to your master and complain. Please stop this inhumane behavior immediately.”
“Thank you for caring, but we’ll take care of it. It’s worth going to the dungeon.”
The woman frowned at Black’s answer.
“Hey, is your sister still a D-class adventurer? I’m a 4-year veteran in Elend, and I have experience clearing up to the 3rd floor of this dungeon.”
The woman showed off her pride.
“You guys, I don’t know how you got to the second floor, but you die here quickly. I’ll take you to the surface, so tell me who the owner is.”
“This person annoys me. Not good.”
The yellow man pointed his sword at the woman.
“Hey, Lippi. Sorry but we have to go. My brother waited for me….”
When Hayang got nervous, the woman eventually exploded and stamped her feet.
“So, who is that older brother?! I’ll kindly help you, but why are you hiding it so tightly? Isn’t your master slave trader Wicker? Be honest. Did that heinous bastard make you do such a cruel thing?”
The expressions of the three men who had accepted the woman’s annoyance so far turned cold when Wicker’s name came out.
“Look at this, that’s right. There is nothing without slaves. I knew it would all be deception. I never trust slave traders before. When I think of the gold coins I was swindled by when I was trying to buy a slave, I still get pissed while sleeping… !”
The woman strode towards Yellowy, clenching her fists and taking her anger out.
“I will expose Wicker’s true identity in front of everyone and banish him from Elend. You guys, go to the guild with me right now and testify, ul… ?”
The woman who was dragged by Yellowy’s arm noticed her strangeness.
It was because her yellow hair didn’t budge, as if holding a stone pillar firmly anchored to her floor.
She turned her head away, but she said that what she caught was a human child, about seven years old.
“Uh… ?”
The girl, Prosecutor Liffey, was almost knocked out by the rushing chill.
It was a sensation I had never felt before.
She said that she cleared the third floor of the dungeon earlier, but she was bluffing.
She went down to the 3rd floor once, but as soon as she stepped on her, she was incontinent from the life force of the monsters and ran away immediately.
And this chill was similar to the death I felt then.
“Ajumma, did you say 4 years?”
The woman pursed her mouth. She can’t even respond to a word that scratches her pride as an auntie.
“We’re two weeks old, adventurers.”
She took turns looking at the faces of the three children before realizing it.
“We are also D-class.”
She just touched something she shouldn’t have touched.
“It’s okay to see you off. We are on our way up from the ‘4th floor’ now.”
The black eyes of a small dark elf see right through the woman.
“But I have to warn you.”
The golden eyes of a human child, and the red eyes of a beast child.
“We mustn’t touch our master.”
The three slaves each skillfully fixed their weapons.
“There are no witnesses.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t kill you.”
Originally, in a place called a dungeon, the screams of adventurers and monsters do not cease.
