Chapter 2: New chance at life
Beep! Beep! Beep!
The constant sound echoed in her head, making her scrunch her brows in displeasure.
'Is this heaven?'
'Is heaven supposed to sound like this?'
'Wait, why do I smell disinfectant? Is your soul supposed to feel your five senses even after your death?' Katherine wondered as she felt like her head was hit by a truck and her body butchered before being put in place.
'Congratulations on your new journey towards a new way. Your wish has been granted. Welcome to the new life,' Katherine heard another voice inside her head again, making her groan.
'Was her new life supposed to start like this? Wasn't she supposed to be a baby first? Or was life screwing her right from the beginning like it did when she worked for the Black OPS and -' Katherine paused her thoughts.
She wasn't supposed to keep her thoughts after dying, right?
"Is she awake? It's about time. If she doesn't show any signs of waking in another hour, declare her in a coma. I bet if anybody cares about her anyway,"
A cold sound reverberated around her. It was hard to identify which direction the sound came from.
She tried to flutter her eyes open again. Why was it so hard to open her eyes? Katherine thought as another weird thing registered in her mind.
Why were her memories getting mixed up?
'I just wanted to live,' This was definitely her memory.
'What was my fault that they bullied me like this? Was it my fault my parents died earlier, and I couldn't find my wolf?' This was definitely not her memory.
Why was she having a memory of someone else in her head?
Katherine started to panic as she clenched her hands, her little action causing the nurse to look at her.
"Doctor! Doctor! She is gaining consciousness," The nurse ran out, and Katherine forced herself to open her eyes slowly, the white light piercing her eyes, making her wince.
'Seriously? I am acting like a legit night nocturnal by wincing at a light,' Katherine hissed, looking around with confusion.
There was no doubt she was in the hospital. But why did the hospital look like this? The hospital in their area didn't have this kind of theme, and -
She tried to sit on her bed, groaning in pain.
She was just shot. Why does it feel like someone threw her from some kind of hill?
'Because she was indeed thrown from the hill,' The same unfamiliar voice inside her head said again, and Katherine sighed.
'I think I am going crazy,' Katherine looked at the doctor, who rushed inside the room and looked at her.
"Ms Rosewood, how are you feeling now?" The doctor held her hand to check her heartbeat, and Katherine's gaze fell on her hands, which looked too soft and pretty for her own good.
And wait.
Where did her mark go? She clearly had the nocturnal emblem tattooed on her wrist.
"I am fine," She finally whispered, her eyes widening as she heard her voice.
Katherine placed her hand on her throat, unsure what was wrong with her vocal cords. Why was she sounding so sweet and innocent? Where did her authoritative voice go?
"I... I think something is wrong with my head. I keep feeling weird things, hearing weird voices and -" Katherine tried.
"That might be because of the after-effects. I am sure it must be making you feel uneasy since you don't have a wolf," The doctor said, and Katherine hummed before pausing and looking at the doctor.
"What do you mean I don't have a wolf? I do have a wolf," Katherine asked, looking around helplessly.
She wasn't getting any good feelings anymore. Now that she thinks about it, why has her wolf not once made a sound to let her know of her presence?
"Miss Rosewood, you need to calm down," The nurse held her hand as she tried to stand from her place.
"I can't calm down. Nothing's making sense. Where is Simon? Simon! Is this the joint council's hospital? I would like to meet your leader. What the hell is going on here?" Katherine asked as she tried to stand from her place, pushing the nurse away.
"Miss Rosewood, we don't know what you are talking about -"
"Who the hell is Miss Rosewood?! I am Katherine Moon! Do you hear it? Katherine fucking Moon! The leader of Nocturnal-" Katherine paused when her gaze landed on the glass window beside her.
She... She looked like ... Her heart thumped loudly as she touched her face in horror.
"Who is this? What did you guys do to my face?" Katherine whispered, removing the IV needles from her hand as she stood from her place and walked to the window to get a better look.
The doctors, who thought that she was planning on jumping down the window again, immediately held her hand and restricted her movement.
"Leave my hand!" Katherine raised her voice, disliking the sweet voice that left her mouth.
Tears welled in her eyes. Nothing was making sense to her anymore.
What was going on?
'Congratulations on your new journey towards a new way. Your wish has been granted. Welcome to the new life,' the same voice came again, and Katherine fell to the ground.
'New life?'
'You have been reincarnated into the body of Miss Delilah Grace Rosewood. This wish has been bestowed upon you because of your last wish to live a life. You must follow my orders to fulfil the destiny of Delilah, who committed suicide,' The same voice said again.
"And who are you?" Katherine asked, making the doctors look at her as if she was going mad.
'I am the system assigned to you by the heavenly gods. Call me Daisy,' the same voice came again, and Katherine's heart thumped.
"We will be now processing the memories of Delilah into your head. You have the option of deleting your previous memories or keeping them. Choose one for deleting the memories and choose two for -'
'I want to keep them,' Katherine whispered even when her head and thoughts were a mess.
She had no idea what was going on, but one thing was for sure. She wasn't in her body. This petite body was definitely not hers.
The memories rushed into her head like a wave of tsunami, and she groaned, taking support from the nightstand as she stood from her place.
She was reincarnated into the body of a suicidal girl who couldn't take a commander's rejection? And here she was, who got shot straight in her head because she wanted to save her team.
Katherine sat on the bed again, tears welling in her eyes as she accepted her reality slowly, the darkness of her new life sinking inside her.
"Miss Delilah,"
"Miss Delilah,"
"Miss Delilah,"
'They are calling you. You are not Katherine anymore. You are Delilah,' The system reminded her, and Katherine turned to the nurse.
"Are you okay?" The nurse asked, and Katherine felt like laughing.
"Am I okay? My whole world crumbled down. Of course, I am okay," she chuckled before lying back on the bed, closing her eyes, hoping everything would be okay the next time she opened her eyes.
"I think she is just surprised that she is alive," The doctor commented before leaving, and Katherine clenched her fists at the humiliation.
Once she was left alone in the room, she lay on her back and looked at the ceiling.
'Tell me how things work,' She said to no one in particular, but the system knew she was talking to her.
'As I said, you will have to fulfil the destiny of Delilah Grace. I will help you with that,' Daisy whispered.
'And what destiny does she have?' Katherine scoffed, already full of malice for the suicidal girl.
Katherine felt her throat going dry and sat to drink some water. She might as well take care of this new body gifted to her.
'Marrying the alpha king,' Daisy said.
Spat!
Katherine spat the water in her mouth and looked at Daisy, who appeared right in front of her as a cute little demon appeared, and her eyes widened.
"What the hell are you?" She asked.
The system looked back at her, offended.
"I am a demon," The system said, and Katherine quirked her brows before nodding.
She drank some water and remembered the reason for her earlier stupor.
"What did you say I needed to do?" Katherine asked just to ensure she heard it right.
"You need to seduce the Alpha King to fulfil Delilah's destiny," the system repeated.
"And what if I don't want to do that?"
"Then you don't have to do that," The system said, making Katherine sigh in relief.
"Then again, don't you want to avenge what happened to you and find the truth? How will you do that when I send you back as the rejected soul because you don't want to complete the task?" The system smirked, and Katherine gritted her teeth as she realized what was happening.
"And what kind of tasks do you want me to do? There is no way I am putting my dignity down and seducing someone to bed me," Katherine said, but Daisy went quiet, and she looked up towards the door where a nurse entered.
"How are you feeling now?" The nurse asked.
Rather than panicking this time, Katherine smiled at the nurse.
"I heard that she... I mean I jumped from the cliff. The memory is a bit vague, who saved me?" Katherine asked, remembering someone had held Delilah's hand when she was falling.
"You were quite lucky. It was the future alpha king's brother's secretary," the nurse said, and Katherine nodded.
"Is he okay? He took the fall too,"
"He got some minor injuries. He is in the adjacent room. You can thank him if you want, though -" The nurse couldn't complete her sentence as Katherine dashed out of her bed to thank the person.
If that person hadn't made the effort, maybe she would've never gotten this second chance at life.
Though the situation was peculiar, she wasn't going to miss this opportunity this time despite the weird system and demands.
After knocking twice on the door, when she didn't hear a voice, Katherine entered the room, her foot entangling with her own, making her stumble forward.
However, before she could make a fool of herself, someone held her hand, making her sigh in relief.
"Thank you -" The rest of the words stuck in her mouth as she raised her gaze, her breath catching in her throat as her pupils dilated when she looked into the most beautiful blue eyes she had ever laid her eyes on.
But that wasn't what caught her off guard.
It was the fact that the man was shirtless.
"Miss Delilah, you came to say something?" A man behind this shirtless man said, and Katherine nodded.
"Holy sh*t," She whispered, making the man quirk his brows at her.
