Chapter 5: First-hand Embarrassment
'What are you thinking about?' The system asked.
Katherine sat quietly near the lake on the large rock, moving her feet in the cold water as she looked at the vast water body.
After having breakfast, she didn't have the heart to meet anyone else because she was seconds away from snapping, and pretending to be a good girl like Delilah was becoming a tough task for her.
"I don't know. I kind of miss my old life already. I know I am supposed to be grateful for this opportunity, but those missions had involuntarily become a part of me," Katherine whispered, her gaze landing on the butterflies that were flying around her.
A smile appeared on her face as she extended her hand, hoping to have a better look at those beautiful creatures if any of them sat.
To her surprise, not one but many butterflies started to sit on her hand. She looked at them enchanted, her eyes beaming with their colors that reflected on the water and her pupils.
"So beautiful," she whispered.
Doesn't butterfly mean rebirth and new beginnings? Is this why these creatures got attracted to her? Katherine wondered before she remembered something.
Katherine looked at the system with furrowed brows.
"What now?" The system rolled its eyes.
"What did you mean Delilah doesn't have a wolf but I will become stronger if I keep doing these tasks? How strong are we talking about if I don't even have a wolf?" Katherine asked, and the system sighed.
"I never said that Delilah wouldn't have a wolf forever. It's kind of complicated. You can think of it as the wolf being imprisoned inside the body. So when I say you will become stronger, you will be able to unlock the wolf and release its energies," The system informed.
Katherine scoffed.
According to her memories and information provided to her, Delilah was already 18 years old. There is no way a person who has a wolf hasn't been able to turn into one.
Even if the person is a late-bloomer, they are supposed to find their wolf when turning eighteen. And Delilah's eighteenth birthday was around 6 months ago.
Katherine stood from her place and walked a couple of steps inside the lake.
"What are you doing?" The system asked.
"I am trying to find the wolf. Maybe she never tried to meet her wolf, and that's why her wolf hasn't made her presence known. If there is a wolf soul inside me, she should be at least talking to me, even more actively," Katherine said before she closed her eyes.
She tried to concentrate on any wolf form.
"What color is the wolf?" She asked.
"White," The system said, an amused smile on its face, looking at the girl's contorted face.
"A white wolf. Okay. I got it," Katherine whispered confidently before she clenched her teeth and squared her jaws, her brows knitting close as she tried to find her so-called wolf and another soul inside the body.
'It has to be there,' Katherine imagined herself changing into a white wolf just like how a normal transformation is supposed to be.
Feeling some grumbling in her stomach, hope started brewing in Katherine's heart and she smiled encouragingly.
Almost done. She told herself as the ache started increasing, and she clenched her teeth even more, imagining herself in a wolf form even more prominently.
*Poot*
The small sound reverberated into the silent area.
The system - "..."
Katherine - "..."
Katherine opened her eyes in horror.
"I just did not, did I?" Katherine gulped before looking at the system, unsure.
"What was that sound? It didn't come from me, did it?" Katherine asked the devil system, which had an even more amused expression than before.
"It indeed came from you. You farted," The system laughed at her miseries.
"You! How can you -" Katherine froze in her place when she felt something.
*crunch* *crunch*
She wasn't alone in the area. Someone was standing behind her. Her spy senses started to work, and she turned around slowly, ready for the horrors.
Seeing the people in front of her, Katherine's face first turned pale before a blush rose across her neck, cheeks, and ears.
Why did it have to be them out of everyone?
"I..." She had no explanation for her behavior.
She looked down at her feet, ashamed.
Farting wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but being caught by Prince Elwin whom you needed to seduce, and the mysterious man that you felt a crush on was definitely bad and humiliating.
"Haha, don't fret it, Miss Delilah. It's a natural process," Prince Elwin said to comfort her, but it was only making her feel worse as her expression turned even uglier and her cheeks redder than before.
"You don't need to feel so bad about it. Besides, you didn't really think anyone would be coming here, right?" Prince Elwin stepped forward like a gentleman, extending his hand to help her out of the water.
Katherine looked down and noticed the bottom of her dress was soaking wet in the water and she grumbled incoherently.
"I... Can we forget about this?" Katherine had no choice but to swallow her humiliation, and Prince Elwin smiled before nodding.
She turned to look at the mysterious man, who just kept looking at her for a few seconds before turning his gaze away like all the times they met, making her sigh.
Katherine walked out of the water holding her dress like a lady before she took the Prince's hand, raising her eyes to meet his.
"Thank you," She bowed, not moving her gaze from his.
"My pleasure," The prince said, feeling lost in her eyes for a second.
Her eyes were really pretty for a normal omega.
Prince Elwin only wanted to treat her gentlemanly because she was the sister of his future fiance, but he didn't know the girl had this kind of charm to herself.
Even in her humiliating situation, she looked strangely charming.
"Please continue your walk. I need to go and uhhh...attend to some things. Yeah," She tugged her hair behind her ears bashfully before practically dashing out of the area.
She was truly Ashamed this time.
Prince Elwin, who saw the running girl, looked at the earring that fell on the ground and quirked his brows.
'What kind of fairytale was this? Could it turn into any more cliche?' He wondered, turning around and leaving.
However, what he didn't know was that someone else was definitely curious about it and picked the earring before stuffing it in his pocket.
"You stupid system! You could see the people standing behind me, no? Why didn't you tell me anything?" Katherine roared at the system as soon as she was out of the area.
The system didn't reply to her accusation.
"Congratulations on completing another task. Reward: Strength- 15 points," The system said instead, and Katherine clenched her teeth before slamming the door shut as soon as she reached her room.
"F*ck you!" Katherine took off her dress in anger, her face still hot from the first-hand embarrassment she got today, and the system smirked.
"If I had told you everything, you would've prevented it, and the prince wouldn't have thought that you were cute. Now go and change. You are yet to meet your sister. Delilah always goes to her sister to talk whenever she has time," The system reminded Katherine, making her grit her teeth.
