Villain: You Want Me to Follow the Plot and Die? I’m Done Pretending

Chapter 19

Chapter 19: The Fear of Death:

Hissss.

The swarm of venomous scorpions made a sound similar to a snake’s hiss as they rubbed together.

The number of scorpions kept growing.

It had reached a point where these disciples, who hadn’t even reached the Foundation Establishment Realm, could no longer handle them.

More and more people were getting injured, but there were very few antidote pills left.

Even the disciples from the major sects were barely hanging on.

As for those from the smaller sects, they were in even worse shape.

“We can’t keep this up. If this continues, everyone will die. Let’s abandon the severely injured who can’t move and have those still able to run escape.” A disciple surnamed Gao yelled, stuffing a handful of antidote pills into his mouth as he called to those still fighting on the outskirts.

Feng Ningyuan looked around at the others whose faces were as black as his, poisoned and desperate.

People were selfish, after all.

Most of the people here were practically strangers.

On the path of cultivation, everyone was just a fleeting traveler.

When it comes to one’s life, nothing else matters.

However, the ones most poisoned had been those who had fought on the front lines at the beginning.

Abandoning them now would be wrong, both in principle and in spirit.

“If you won’t leave, then I’m going.” Gao Buyi drew his sword and charged toward the area with fewer scorpions.

Once one person made a move, the rest didn’t need any urging.

They all started breaking through, trying to escape.

The half-human-sized scorpions, with their long tails, could leave gaping wounds half a meter wide with one sting.

Those who managed to escape still had a few antidote pills, but the bleeding wounds weren’t something the antidote pills could heal.

Screams rang out, followed by the sound of scorpions feeding.

Those most deeply poisoned were seen as no longer a threat and were left behind as food for the scorpions.

But they were still food, after all.

When a scorpion crawled up to Feng Ningyuan, he laid on the ground, waiting quietly for death.

From his position, looking up from the ground, he saw the massive purple scorpion open its pincers and reach out to grab him.

Feng Ningyuan had no strength left, and he could only watch as the giant scorpion brought him closer to its mouth.

Pain spread from his shoulder.

Yet, because of the poison’s numbing effect, the pain was surprisingly bearable.

However, watching himself being eaten bit by bit filled him with fear.

It seemed that the scorpion found the flesh on his arm chewy. It made an opening, and started quickly tearing his muscles out.

“Damn it, what a pitiful way to die.” Feng Ningyuan cursed himself as he lay there, awaiting death.

He hoped the scorpion would finish him off before it started eating his organs.

Beasts didn’t care about cruelty.

Live prey tasted the freshest.

Watching the few remaining people being eaten alive before their very eyes, those still able to breathe were sobbing uncontrollably.

But suddenly, a sword descended from the sky.

The giant scorpion which was still chewing was stuck to the ground.

The immense pain caused the scorpion to release its grip, thrashing wildly.

But the sword didn’t budge an inch.

As Feng Ningyuan’s consciousness faded, Gu Feng pulled him into his arms.

A surge of pure spiritual energy flowed through his wounds and into his organs, forcefully keeping him alive.

“I’m late.” Gu Feng said calmly, though there was a hint of anger in his tone.

Wrenched back from the brink of death, Feng Ningyuan opened his eyes to see his senior brother, his eyes blazing with fury.

“Senior Brother!”

Having narrowly escaped death, Feng Ningyuan, who had always believed that real men didn’t cry easily, couldn’t hold back his tears.

His eyes welled up, and the next moment, the tears fell.

“Senior Brother!”

He poured out all the fear he had been holding in, crying so hard he almost passed out again.

Gu Feng knew the boy had been terrified.

After all, he was only 16 or 17 years old, experiencing the extremes of life and death.

If he didn’t let him cry it out, it might leave a heart demon in the future.

A barrier rose around them, allowing those outside to see what was happening but not hear anything.

Gu Feng patted Feng Ningyuan’s back and said gently, “It’s alright. I’m here now, aren’t I?”

“Thank you… thank you, Senior Brother,” Feng Ningyuan said, still choking on his tears as he wiped them away.

He had been so scared when he was being eaten alive.

“Stop crying. I’m taking down the barrier.” Gu Feng said, glancing at the scorpions outside, still eyeing them menacingly.

The scorpion he had pinned earlier was likely the scorpion king.

With it there, the smaller scorpions wouldn’t dare come closer.

However, a few scorpions about the same size as the king were already itching to try.

Even within insect groups, there were struggles for the king position.

If the scorpion king were killed, the remaining large scorpions would have a chance to fight for the throne.

Feng Ningyuan knew this wasn’t the time to be weak.

He got up and followed closely behind Gu Feng.

“Senior Brother, I’ll go with you,” he said, concerned that his brother might be exhausted after giving him so much spiritual energy earlier.

“No need. Focus on clearing the poison from your body, and save those who are about to die.”

Saying this, Gu Feng tossed him a bottle of pills and flew forward, pulling the sword from the scorpion king’s belly.

Hiss…

Purple blood spurted out, along with bits of the scorpion’s internal organs.
