Warhammer, I promise I am loyal!!

Chapter 9: 9. Gold Explosion! In Every Sense!

"—You who are entwined with the three great Words of Power for seven days, come forth by the Wheel of Restraint, O guardian of the scales!

"I command you in the name of the Emperor! At all costs, take me away from this place!"

Eaton stared in shock at the scene before him, even as the psychic shielding devices in the Governor's mansion were running at full capacity.

In Leon's hands, a mass of writhing flesh, pulsating with blasphemous light, squirmed and twisted in response to the arcane and incomprehensible incantations flowing from his lips.

"Sorcery! This is impossible!"

He couldn't believe his eyes. By the heavens above! He even forgot to call out to the loyal guards outside, instead muttering to himself in disbelief.

Before him was an unspeakable abomination, a desecration that had truly crossed the boundaries of life and death.

Amid the profane light, which words could hardly describe, a low and androgynous voice responded to Leon's summoning.

"Your command is my will!"

"For the Emperor's vision, we will deliver!"

-------------------

Brino Bradley answered the call.

Her last memory—

The moon of the orcs' war hovered above her head like a dense, oppressive storm cloud.

Faithful followers of the God-Emperor perished like ants.

Armies were in disarray, the galaxy aflame, and even the mighty angels fell like meteorites.

Terra teetered on the brink of destruction. The Empire's rulers failed to grasp the wisdom left behind by the God-Emperor.

The power struggles among the High Lords pushed the Empire closer to ruin. The mechanical heretics of the Adeptus Mechanicus, cold and indifferent, turned a blind eye to the suffering of the people, tearing apart the sacred pact once forged with the God-Emperor. They stood idly by as xenos rampaged through Imperial lands.

In the face of alien invasions, the decaying High Lords faltered, and even the holy palace of Terra could not escape unscathed.

Rage from the past filled Brino's chest, and her heart raced at a staggering 200 beats per minute.

Millions of faithful answered the call of the Ecclesiarchy, embarking on crusades aboard civilian transport ships, launching suicidal attacks on the war moon advancing toward Terra.

"For the Emperor alone, the faithful find shelter!"

Only faith could save the Empire from its dire straits!

Only the God-Emperor could deliver humanity!

Brino recited the sacred words of the Emperor repeatedly in her heart. And now, after millennia, the Emperor's call filled her angered heart with overwhelming joy.

What could possibly prove the Emperor's divine power more than bringing his most devout follower back to life?

As Brino rapidly processed the fragments of memories Leon had shared with her, her heart swelled with zeal and elation.

In mere moments, she grasped the current circumstances.

The 41st Millennium, the Primarch's return, Joachim, family feuds, heretics, conspiracies, rebellions...

Heresy!

Though righteous fury blazed anew in her heart for those who defied the Emperor's teachings, Brino was no stranger to war. Having served over 50 years in the Imperial Guard and seen countless battles, she remained calm.

Narrowing her eyes slightly, she surveyed the Governor's mansion.

Within her line of sight, over a hundred PDF troopers were stationed.

Though their equipment could only be considered average compared to the Imperial Guard, it was far superior to the lightly armed PDF militias typically raised by planetary governors.

Fortunately, for some reason, there were no elite guards present in the hall—

In the blink of an eye, she made her decision.

"Stay behind me—"

As the white light dissipated, Leon saw a lithe figure clad in a white penitence robe dart past him toward the planetary governor, the central leader of the rebels.

Leon froze for a moment, surprised by how different her appearance was from what he had imagined. However, as the summoner, he reacted far quicker than Eaton.

Bowing low, he moved behind Brino, seeking cover to avoid the laser weapons held by the PDF soldiers. These soldiers, unsure of how to proceed, hesitated due to the mingling of Leon, the acting planetary governor, and the military governor among the chaos.

The female warrior, seemingly confident that the PDF soldiers wouldn't risk firing and accidentally hitting their leaders, acted swiftly.

Before anyone, including the governor, could react, Brino had already snatched a still-warm bolter from Eaton's hands and pressed it against the back of his head.

Feeling the heat of the bolter behind him, Eaton's eyes flashed crimson, and his shark-like mutated fangs glinted ominously as he opened his mouth.

Despite being restrained, this battle-hardened military officer showed no fear, instead trying to intimidate Brino and find a chance to counterattack.

But events unfolded far beyond his expectations.

"Don't think that by holding me hostage, you'll achieve—"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Before he could finish, the bolter fired, spraying blood and brain matter.

Eaton's head exploded like a smashed tomato.

Leon stood frozen, utterly stunned by the carnage.

Whether in his previous life as a meek researcher or this life as a noble scion, such bloody killings were far removed from him.

With textbook precision, Brino executed the disarmament and acted decisively.

The first shot obliterated Eaton's head, removing the greatest immediate threat.

The second shot struck the panicked elders of the Aurelian family, sending them fleeing toward the mansion doors, hindering the PDF reinforcements outside.

The third shot destroyed the golden throne in the mansion's center, leaving behind a headless corpse beside it.

The acting planetary governor sat trembling on the throne as Brino, clad in white and holding the bolter, strode toward him like an avenging angel.

Terrified, he dared not move, not even to wipe the blood splattered on his face. He feared the next moment would bring his demise.

"Order the PDF to lay down their weapons and open all exits to the city, or—"

The bolter pressed hard against Angelo's forehead, scorching his pale skin with a searing red mark.

The planetary governor screamed like a pig being slaughtered.

Leon, watching his pathetic and cowardly elder brother—so unlike the cunning heretics—found himself in a scene of sheer bloodshed and chaos.

The leader was dead, the commander captured.

All of this had occurred in mere seconds.

Most of the people fled in panic, while the PDF soldiers, tasked with eliminating the former governor's loyalists, stood dumbfounded by the chaos.

"Where's the signal jammer?"

Leon picked up a sharp fragment of a shattered bone from the ground. He knew every second Brino bought them was precious.

He rushed to Angelo, pressing the sharp bone against his neck with such force it drew blood.

"Don't kill me! The jammer's underground in the mansion, but the switch is with Rensis!"

Looking at the foul-smelling governor, now reduced to pleading for his life with no regard for dignity, Leon wasted no time.

He crouched by the headless corpse of Rensis, the navy minister, who had been shot near the throne.

Among the items on the corpse, Leon found a miniature pistol, a wallet, and a badge—a piece of fist-sized golden metal. His mind stirred with an unusual excitement from the sacrificial book, as if sensing a treasure of immense value.

Though tempted to investigate, Leon stuffed everything into his pockets hastily.

After confirming the signal jammer was disabled, Leon stomped on the small device until it was beyond repair.

Raising his head, he barked orders at Angelo.

"Tell the PDF to let all the elders go! Now! Immediately!"
