Chapter Two: Different
The demons carrying the bridal sedan step into the night sky, disappearing into the purple heavens illuminated by neon lights.
Only Yuyin remains, her hair like the night cascading behind her, standing there in a daze.
The bride of the Ghost King?
I am the bride of the Ghost King? What on earth is going on?
Who is the Ghost King?
However, although everything is unclear, at least for now, she is temporarily safe, right? Yuyin breathes a sigh of relief.
“If what that demon said is true, then thinking about it, those demons won’t come to harm me for at least three years, right? Can I command those demons?”
Looking at the fierce and imposing aura of those demons, it is clear they do not seem like beings who would obey her.
That means… they are being directed by something far more powerful than these demons?
The Ghost King?
She, a boy reborn as a girl, is to be married to the Ghost King?
Yuyin shudders.
However, the truth of this matter is still undetermined, and it is not something she can speculate about here.
What should she do next? If she has been reborn as a girl, are her parents still the same as before? Can she go home?
Yuyin remembers the phone she has been holding by her side. She picks it up and sees that it seems to be a very expensive model. The phone is equipped with various apps, but in QQ and WeChat, there are not a single friend or group.
Yuyin opens the camera; at least she should take a look at her appearance.
“Ah…”
What comes into her view is a face like that of a celestial fairy.
If her former self as a boy were to see the lover of his dreams in solitude, it would probably look like this.
She has been reborn as a tall, ethereal woman, yet not lacking in earthly charm…
No wonder even the Ghost King would take a liking to… to… herself!?
???
Although she now possesses this dreamlike goddess-like appearance, it does not mean she can accept being desired by some Ghost King; that is simply unacceptable.
Looking at her outfit, the flowing white dress, elegant and airy with a touch of modern tailoring and embellishments, is not the kind of pure costume drama attire. Paired with the white headband atop her head, it is not something that cannot be worn in a fashion capital like Zero City.
Although Yuyin was a boy before, she has some artistic talent and understands a bit about women’s clothing.
Buzz~~~
At this moment, the phone vibrates, startling Yuyin slightly.
A voice message pops up on the screen, signed “Mom.”
“Mom?”
Yuyin immediately clicks to open it.
A slightly magnetic, very pleasant mature woman’s voice comes through, but it seems a bit hurried.
“Yuyin, Mom is currently on a ship to Africa; don’t worry, everything is fine. Whatever you do, don’t go home; there are debt collectors everywhere… I’ve arranged a temporary place for you to stay, just behind your school, 267 Weiming South Road…3012… The conditions are tough; I’m sorry for that. You must get into a good university! Make Mom proud… Daughter, take care, Mom loves you…”
Towards the end, the voice becomes intermittent, deliberately lowered, accompanied by various noises, and seems to choke up a bit.
This voice, although pleasant, is clearly not Yuyin’s mother from before her rebirth.
It seems she has encountered some trouble and fled to Africa? What about herself…
Yuyin cannot accept that this woman is her mother, but the expectation and concern in her tone still make her heart ache.
She cannot help but gaze at the street outside, where lights flow through the heavy shadows of the trees. Having been reborn into this world, what will happen to her original parents?
But there is nothing she can do about it; at least for now, she cannot do anything.
But at the very least, she must protect herself! Otherwise, thinking about anything else is superfluous.
Those enchanting night spirits wandering in the city, both illusory and real, although it is still unclear what dangers they pose…
But to say that this place is a peaceful world like her past life, Yuyin does not believe it.
Since she cannot go home and is uncertain about where her home is, she might as well go to the place her mother mentioned in the message, find a relatively safe spot, and then do some thorough online research.
Weiming South Road… that street name sounds familiar.
Yuyin suddenly remembers; isn’t that the back street of the high school she used to attend? It is a well-known shantytown, chaotic despite being in the city center. When she first entered high school, she was extorted for money on that street and even beaten up, so she has never dared to walk there since.
To be arranged in such a place…
Yuyin opens the map navigation; it is not far, just over a kilometer on foot.
She walked out of the public green space and onto the street, feeling a sense of disorientation once again at the scene before her.
The spirits wandering through the heavy black silhouettes of the city seemed to merge with it, creating a surreal painting of fantasy and reality.
Many passersby were looking at her, most of them men, but there were also quite a few women casting jealous glances.
A small black car stopped, and the tattooed driver, with unclear motives, asked her, “Where are you going, miss?”
Yuyin initially wanted to turn and leave, but suddenly remembered something and asked the lecherous driver, “Master… have you seen those strange things on the street?”
“Huh?” The driver looked bewildered.
Yuyin said no more, ignoring the driver and the gazes around her, and followed the navigation with her head down. “Clearly, people can see me, but they can’t see those strange things. Yet those things seem to be able to see me…”
Yuyin quickened her pace, trying her best not to look at the flickering eyes of the spirits.
When she reached the school gate, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She couldn’t help but feel a sense of familiarity; this was the Zero City Twenty-First National High School.
It looked almost identical to the place she used to attend school, but there seemed to be something unusual about it.
Yuyin had walked very quickly along the way, but she didn’t feel tired. She realized that her body was in excellent condition; not only was her line of sight higher, indicating she was taller, but her stamina was even better than when she was a boy. However, after rushing, she felt a bit damp, and a faint body fragrance emanated from her… but then again, body fragrance wasn’t a bad thing; it was just something she didn’t have when she was a boy.
As Yuyin gazed at the school, she gradually realized something was off. “Why is it still so brightly lit at this late hour?”
She walked through the school gate without being stopped; the short, stout security guard at the entrance looked at her with admiration and greeted her with a smile.
It wasn’t surprising that the guard recognized her since she was also attending this high school in this life.
Upon entering the campus, Yuyin immediately sensed something was wrong.
A group of boys and girls in tank tops and shorts were running towards her. Practicing running at this hour? How bizarre…
Yuyin looked towards the playground, which was brightly lit and almost filled with students exercising, and many students were practicing with sticks and weapons. Could this be a martial arts school? The key was that she seemed to recognize a few of them… what was going on?
A prominent banner hung on the playground.
“Practice diligently, strengthen the nation.”
“Unity, effort, struggle, countdown to the Source Martial Arts college entrance exam: 60 days!”
She also saw a large neon sign on the teaching building that read: “There are countless paths to the Dao, but the first is the source energy; practice the body, not the energy…”
In the dimly lit campus grove, there seemed to be unsettling gazes coming from within.
Yuyin thought there were spirits here too, but upon looking closer, she found it was actually four or five students, both male and female, meditating in the grove, one girl even wearing a flowing Hanfu.
At this hour, instead of reviewing, were they cultivating immortality?
Indeed… this school looked similar to what she remembered from the outside, but in reality, it was very different.
