Chapter 11: The Unexpected Twist
Dear Diary,
Today was... unexpected, to say the least.
I was getting ready for school like usual when Hye-jin called me in a panic, saying that we needed to talk. I figured it was just another one of her random rants about her latest crush or something, but when I got to school, she looked way more serious than usual.
"Eun-ji, I need to tell you something," she said, dragging me into a quiet corner of the schoolyard. Her voice was shaky, and I could tell she was anxious. "It's about Min-jun."
I froze. My heart raced. I thought something bad had happened, but before I could ask, she blurted out, "He's been acting different lately, and I think... he's trying to keep something from you."
"Wait, what?!" I felt my stomach drop. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Min-jun? Keeping something from me?
"Yeah, I overheard him talking to Kang Dae-hyun. He was saying something about needing space, and then he got really quiet when I mentioned you," Hye-jin continued. "I think he's hiding something."
My brain was racing. Why would Min-jun keep something from me? What was going on? I couldn't imagine him being secretive, but Hye-jin was my best friend, and I trusted her. But still, why did I feel like I was being dragged into something I wasn't ready for?
Just then, Min-jun walked past us, his gaze flicking toward me for a brief second before he turned away. That simple glance made my heart skip a beat, but there was something off about it. It was like he was... avoiding me?
Later that day, during lunch, I spotted him sitting alone under a tree. He didn't seem to notice me at first, so I hesitated for a moment. Should I approach him? Or should I give him space like he seemed to want?
I walked up slowly, trying to act normal. "Hey, Min-jun. Can we talk?"
He looked up at me, his expression unreadable. "Yeah. Sure." He patted the spot next to him, inviting me to sit.
I sat down, feeling the weight of the conversation hanging in the air. "What's going on? You've been... different lately."
Min-jun sighed, his hand running through his hair as he stared out at the sky. "I didn't want you to worry, Eun-ji. There's something I've been dealing with, and I didn't want to drag you into it."
My heart clenched. "What is it? You can tell me. I'm here for you."
He glanced at me, his eyes filled with hesitation. "It's... not easy to explain. I just don't want you to think I'm not into you anymore. I've been dealing with some stuff, and it's affecting how I'm acting."
I was stunned. I had no idea what to say, but I could feel the concern building inside me. "You can tell me anything, Min-jun. I'm not going to judge you."
He smiled weakly, but it was clear that something was weighing on him. "I know, Eun-ji. I just need time to figure things out."
I nodded, feeling the tension between us. "I understand. Just... don't push me away, okay?"
Min-jun gave me a small smile, and for a moment, everything felt normal again. But deep down, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, and I couldn't help but wonder what he was hiding from me.
