Chapter 99.2
Even If Cute, It Was A Super Rare Monster
Yuuri smiled widely, but his eyes weren’t smiling at all. When Aroru muttered a small “Why,” Yuuri tilted his head. After telling Rooks, “That’s enough,” he turned back to Aroru and opened his mouth, still smiling.
“If I check their statuses, I can figure out the hideout’s location. Wouldn’t it be better to wipe them out?”
With that bright smile, Aroru could only nod with a strained expression. It was all she could do. “He’s really angry.”, she muttered, then obediently ran off to fetch the guards. Meanwhile, any rebellious foes who regained consciousness were mercilessly spun around by Rooks. Just because they were hidden in an alley didn’t mean they could do whatever they pleased. Yuuri, in his anger, was genuinely terrifying. Rooks was thrilled, and with no one stopping him, it went on endlessly.
Afterward, Yuuri and Aroru headed to the empty house that served as the kidnappers’ base, accompanied by the guards that Aroru had brought. Aroru came along as Yuuri’s chaperone or, more accurately, as a witness. Throughout the journey, Yuuri kept a cheerful smile, which Aroru found unsettling.
As soon as they arrived at the hideout, Yuuri spoke with a bright smile:
“Rooks, you can take out all the bad guys, okay?”
At his beloved master’s words, Rooks obeyed eagerly. While the guards and Aroru were dumbfounded, Rooks slipped through a crack in the door and quickly subdued everyone inside. Despite the multiple armed opponents, it took them down effortlessly, true to its status as a super-rare monster.
When the guards finally stormed in, alarmed by the screams and crashing sounds from within, they found Rooks bouncing happily amid the defeated kidnappers. The guards couldn’t help but question their own purpose in being there, but they quickly snapped out of it and began their duty of apprehending the culprits. Kudos to them for their hard work.
“Rooks, can you break this?”
“Kyuu?”
“If you can, go ahead and break it.”
Yuuri pointed to a cage in the back room, where several captured familiars were being held. All of them still wore their tags. Though wary, they didn’t seem inclined to attack. As intelligent monsters, they knew they stood no chance against Rooks, who had just wreaked havoc. Even visibly combat-capable familiars were wise enough to stay put.
“Kyuu!”
Rooks tried ramming the cage to break it, but the building shook more than expected, so he reconsidered. Extending part of his body, he wriggled it into the lock. After some fidgeting, there was a click, and the lock came undone.
“Wow, Rooks, you’re so handy!”
“Kyuu-kyuu!”
“Hold on… Picking locks? Really, just hold on…”
As Rooks puffed out with pride and Yuuri showered him with praise, Aroru slumped in disbelief. The familiars in the cage watched with a mix of astonishment and confusion, but Yuuri and Rooks paid it no mind. After all, it was a typical day for them.
“Aroru, could you talk with these familiars and help them return to their owners?”
“Why is that my job!?”
“Well, the guards can’t understand familiars, right?”
“…Ugh.”
Faced with the obvious truth, Aroru buried her face in her hands. “More work…” she muttered. Still, she couldn’t turn her back on the neglected familiars before her. Being a dedicated monster lover, she cared for their injuries and exhaustion using her supply of recovery potions. Truly, Aroru had a good heart.
Meanwhile, Yuuri continued to shower Rooks with praise, keeping him in high spirits. By the time Aroru finished gathering information from the familiars and relayed it to the guards, Yuuri had returned to his usual carefree demeanor and suggested, “Let’s go home and prepare dinner,” with a gentle smile.
This incident served as a harsh reminder to the members of the hideout: Never anger Yuuri.
