You Are My Whole Life

Chapter 10: 10. Aloof and Arrogant Man 10_1

Obviously, in Mr. Yu's eyes, the best granddaughter was Yu Qinqin, which made him smile with warmth, and said gently, "Of course, Qinqin...."

He wasn't able to finish his sentence as Li Chengyun interrupted him, "Mr. Yu, this engagement was decided by my grandfather, so I'm approaching it earnestly. I hope you can, too. This isn't something that should be done casually with anyone."

He puts emphasis on the word "earnestly" and doesn't glance at Yu Qinqin even once.

Upon hearing this, Yu Qinqin's complexion turned instantly pale.

Being no fool, she could discern the true message in Li Chengyun's words: the woman he was to marry was the best daughter of the Yu Family, but such excellence was not something merely to speak of; it had to be proven. She stared at Li Chengyun with a mix of innocence and grievance, seemingly tasting her bitterness.

Li Chengyun completely ignored Yu Qinqin, his lips curling up with an aloof and implicit smile that appeared somewhat mocking.

Mr. Yu looked decidedly uncomfortable. He understood Li Chengyun's thoughts, his sharp gaze scrutinizing Li Chengyun without betraying his emotions, before stealthily darting a glance at Yu Jingrong, clearly suspicious of something.

Then, he mustered a nearly ingratiating smile for Li Chengyun and softly said, "Of course!"

Li Chengyun stood up straight and as he started to walk away, without a second thought, Yu Jingrong immediately followed him out.

In the courtyard, Yu Jingrong stopped in front of Li Chengyun and asked him loudly, "Phoenix jade carving, where did you get it from?"

Li Chengyun looked down at her, his expression cold and silent, not immediately responding to her question.

"This jade carving is called Flying Phoenix, it's part of a pair, right?" Yu Jingrong asked again, her face deathly pale, her eyes still wide with shock.

Incredulous questions swirled in her mind, her heart pounded in her chest so forcefully it felt as if it would burst out.

Li Chengyun's sharp, deep eyes narrowed slightly, his voice as cold as ice, "The phoenix jade carving belongs to my future wife. Its history, naturally, can only be shared with her."

His words taken her by surprise and she found herself at a loss for words.

She took a deep breath, displaying a readiness to sacrifice everything, "Tell me about the history of this phoenix jade carving..."

To Yu Jingrong, Li Chengyun's proposal was somewhat suspicious. He didn't show up until she returned from the Yu Family to discuss their engagement.

She didn't know if there was any connection, but she felt that what Li Chengyun wanted was just a wife, a mere display.

Additionally, the Yu Family and the Li Family indeed had a marriage agreement, and that's why he came to propose.

She fell silent and after biting her lip for a moment, she squeezed out the next four words with great difficulty: "I will marry you."
