Chapter 13:
Chapter 13:
He Minglang felt a twinge of disappointment. He had mentioned wanting to be discharged from the hospital, but Jiang Jiandang didn’t even try to stop him. Not once did he persuade him to stay and continue treatment. That indifference settled heavily in He Minglang’s heart.
“If you really want to leave the hospital, Uncle will support you.” Jiang Jiandang said.
“Thank you, Uncle,” He Minglang replied, his voice quiet and cold. “But Uncle, you only have this one house, and my illness is hard to cure. I heard from Qingya that Aunt and you have been fighting because of me. I don’t want to put you in that position. You don’t have to treat me.”
His voice trembled, and he coughed violently, nearly fainting from the strain.
“What are you saying, child? Of course, we have to treat you!” Jiang Jiandang said, clearly distressed. “I’m spending money because I want to help you! What’s a house compared to a life? The arguments with your Aunt aren’t because of you—they’re because of differences in how we see the world.”
“Uncle, if I don’t get treated, you won’t need to sell the house,” Minglang said weakly. “I’ll explain everything to Aunt after class. I’ll help you talk to her, persuade her to reconsider.”
“Don’t bother,” Jiang Jiandang responded with a sad smile. “This whole situation has made me realize… she’s selfish. We just don’t see things the same way, and it’s not your fault. To me, money is just numbers, but life is everything.”
His righteous words moved everyone nearby, some even tearing up.
“Wow, Teacher Jiang is amazing!” one student sniffled.
“He Minglang is so sick, yet he still comes to school. No wonder he’s the top student! It’s a shame some people have no heart. Why didn’t they inherit even a bit of Teacher Jiang’s kindness?” another murmured.
“If it were me, I’d donate my bone marrow in a heartbeat—if I was a match,” said a third, shaking their head. “He Minglang is the best student we have.”
The sight of He Minglang and Jiang Jiandang stirred sympathy in everyone’s hearts. Even Xu Qingya stood up, guilt written all over her face.
“I’m so sorry, He Minglang, big brother. I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t visited you in the hospital! We’ll organize a fundraiser at school—we’ll all donate to help you!”
Donate?
He Minglang knew that money wasn’t the issue. It was the lack of a willing bone marrow donor.
“Forget it,” He Minglang said with a faint smile. “Don’t waste your money, everyone. Finding a bone marrow donor isn’t easy. This is just my fate.”
He lowered his head, looking frail and pitiful. His long, curly lashes cast soft shadows on his face, making him appear vulnerable. His look immediately awakened a protective instinct in everyone.
Meanwhile, Jiang Feng was focused on the documents he needed to translate. He could feel the growing dissatisfaction around him. People were starting to look at him with disdain, as if he had committed some unforgivable crime. If it were anyone else, they might have buckled under the pressure of so many accusing stares. But Jiang Feng didn’t even bother to look up. He calmly turned another page.
A young man sitting in front of him couldn’t hold back any longer. “Jiang Feng, how can you be so heartless? Are you just going to sit by and watch He Minglang die? He’s still so young! What you’re doing is no different from murder!”
Jiang Feng glanced at him briefly, then returned to his book, flipping another page.
“Hey! Are you deaf? Why are you being so rude?” The young man yelled.
Jiang Feng flipped yet another page, completely ignoring him.
“Damn it!” the young man cursed, and in a fit of anger, he reached out to grab Jiang Feng’s book.
But before his hand could touch it, Jiang Feng’s cold eyes snapped up. In an instant, he grabbed the boy’s wrist with a vice-like grip.
Zhang Guang, the boy, felt an icy sweat break out across his forehead. His wrist felt like it was being crushed, the pain so intense it turned his lips pale.
“Let… let go…” Zhang Guang stammered. He looked up and saw the terrifying look in Jiang Feng’s eyes—a cold, black void, like a bottomless pit. The pressure radiating from Jiang Feng was so intense that Zhang Guang could barely find the words to continue.
“You tried to grab my book? With ‘this ‘hand?” Jiang Feng asked, his voice low and dangerous.
“Yes… so what?” Zhang Guang replied, though his confidence wavered. He felt the eyes of the crowd on him, and though fear gripped him, he couldn’t back down now.
“Apologize.” Jiang Feng commanded, tightening his grip.
“Teacher Jiang! Teacher Jiang, help!” Zhang Guang shouted, his voice cracking with desperation.
Jiang Jiandang, hearing the commotion, frowned and turned to scold Jiang Feng. “Jiang Feng! Is this how I raised you? You’re just like your selfish mother! Apologize to Zhang Guang right now!”
