Chapter 2: This Is My Sacred Duty
Within a dense and seemingly endless patch of huge trees, a streak of massively disturbed land could be seen from high in the sky. A path of soil was forcibly imparted onto the ground and at the end of that path, laid a huge machenical suit of armor.
Had anyone seen it, surely they would be struck with both fear and deep curiosity. A huge clunk of machinery, lathered in the dry blood of it's victims rested unmoved.
Taking a closer look, one would be able to see the head of a man. A particularly handsome man who could even come off as a demigod with his seemingly perfect features.
His ones closed eyes shot open and with a grizzly grown he pushed himself up. Shaking his head after tanking a crash from the highest parts of the atmosphere.
His steel colored eyes scanned his surroundings before getting to his feet. The bulky suit of armor, humming as he moved, completely undamaged by the impact.
"Where am I?" He muttered, looking at the intel pad on his arm guard. He messed around with it, trying to send out a distress signal, but it deemed itself pointless as his location wasn't coming up. Neither his nor his brethren for that matter.
Inside this forest and perhaps on this planet, he knew he was the only Grey Knight to touch land here. His connection with his brethren was nearly unbreakable, thanks to his immense power as a psyker.
'So I'm alone here...' His eyes sharpened as he came to that realization. Instinctively, he reached for his wepon, but didn't grasp what he intended. Only air slipping through the huge metallic armor.
Within his mind, he prioritized the gathering of his personal items. His helmet, utility belt and his most prized position, his nemesis powered halberd.
Lucky they were scattered too far apart from each other. Tracing his impact marks, he was able to find them and equipped himself with no issues.
*pshhhhh*
The sound of decompression brought him slight comfort. As too did the tight grip he held on his wepon.
Once fully equipped, he proceeded carefully, just as he was trained to do so. Wordlessly, he jumped through the limbs of the gigantic tree before him, quickly ascending and taking a look at his surroundings from a higher vantage point.
*beep* *beep*
"What is this?" He hummed, inspecting the presence his targeting systems picked up.
A great distance away from him, a humanoid figure limoed around drunkly across the land.
*beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*
The more he looked around, the more frantic the notifications were of abnormal presences in a 200 yard radius of himself.
The entities that walked the land were huge, not nearly as big as the agricultur, but big enough to look like a threat. However, they varied greatly in physique.
Some skinny with huge heads, other round and plump with arms of a toddler. Some walked on all fours, while most walked on their two legs.
However, one thing was made clear to Cloudius the moment he layed his battle worn eyes upon them.
They Needed To Be Exterminated!
"Such blasphemy against humanity has even reached so far as this unknown world." He grumbled, his halberd humming with power as a response to his undying convictions.
He raised his arm and took aim, even from this distance his accuracy was pinpoint as he fired off three blasts from his Bolter. Only moments later, the sound of explosions rang as the abominations let out indescribable cries and woes.
However, the sound of the explosion gave way for more of those monstrosities to appare in droved. The earth shook as the titans stamped from the forest and other nearby regions.
"To freely run into their doom...Are they dumb or suicidal?" Cloudius mumbled. However, he did grin at the thought of not having to go pick them off one by one.
Like a bloodhound going on a hunt, he landed from his high elevation and rushed the titan army, eager to draw their blood!
Coming closer to them he finally realized just how enormous the creatures were as his blade struck one of their achilles tendon, dropping the behemoth to it's knees!
Leaping upward, Cloudius empowered his halberd with psyker energy, beheading the titan in one swift motion!
Seeing the others turn their heads to him, he aimed his Bolter and fired, blowing those heads to little more than shard of bone and clumps of flesh and tissue.
Sensing danger from behind him, Cloudius grabbed the hand of the titan and pulled him forward, sliding his blade clean through its arm before jumping up and splitting its head down to its chest!
Using that body as a stepping stone, he lunged onto the next, slashing its eyes and latching onto its hair impaling the titans' forehead!
He jumped from it, ready to kill the next, but was grabbed by his leg and flung into the ground!
"Still alive are we?" He taunted, recovering from the impact and shooting a round into its face, exploding its head on detonation.
It became clear to him that these entities must be beheaded or completely destroying for them to stay down for good.
With his job becoming easier, he made quick work of the 30 titans he engaged.
After that quick skirmish, his armor had another layer of blood on him, although it seemed to be evaporating into smoke along with the rest of the their bodies.
However, before he could let them go to waste he feasted upon their remains, giving him a full stomach to operate on.
His next order of business was gaining information. From what he saw, he came to the conclusion that there was definitely human life on the planet. Human life that was rather similar to his own before he became a space marine.
Using his power as a psyker, he tried to locate any settlements within 500 yards in all directions, yet found nothing. Well, other than the massive number of titans, there was nothing. However, as a Grey Knight his duty demanded he rid the cosmos of any and all abominations against the Emperor and humanity.
'I Am The Hammer.
I Am The Tip Of His Spear.
I Am The Mail About His Feet.
I Am The Bane Of His Foes And The Woes Of The Treacherous.
I Am A Grey Knight!'
With his convictions made clear, he set out on a crusade of purification.

Hours had passed, 13 to be exact, yet there was no civil life to be found. He was certain there was still some humanity left on this world. If not for the dilapidated outposts, the ruins of supply stations and the random bits of machinery he came across, then the few dozens of recently decomposed bodies was proof enough.
The towering beasts; Titans, ran rampant across the lands. It was clear to him this world held no other threat. Over the course of his exploration, he began to wonder just how much of humanity was left on this world and if the number was large, just how are they staying safe?
The machinery he came across was old fashion, ancient from his perspective. However, he had also came across the bones of titans that had yet to completely evaporate. This led him to eagerly await the day he would meet the warriors that fought the titans and see just how skilled they were.
Just from the scattered gear he was able to recover from past battlefields, he could see how they fought the titans; using aero-movements to reach the neck and dish out a sure kill blow.
From the size of the gear and torn attire, the fighters were short in stature, most likely humans with no biological engineering.
Amongst his many questions, be also found answers. His talismans and charms seemed to work on the titans to a certain degree, meaning they were indeed agents of chaos although, not completely.
Another thing being the titans themselves. There was no way they just popped up as a subhuman species, it was clear that their creation was specially engineered by someone in someway different from his own.
Now, as he rested utop a tree, he looked out into the sky. Contrary to the abominations of the land, this was the most peace he had experienced in a very long time.
"My brothers, where among these stars have you been delivered? Here in this land, the demons are weak, but large in number. Will I purge them? Yes. To do anything else would be heresy to the Emperor. I wish to know that you're all doing well and staying true to our duties." His sincere monolog fell on deaf ears as silence followed its end.
After a few more moments of silence, he got up and once again began traveling and purging. The titans didn't move much at all during the night, making them easier targets than normal.
As he moved through the land he kept his mind fortified as to not be swayed by even the slightest whisper of chaos.
...
Somewhere else, 4 groups of the near extinct humans rode through a field on horseback. All around them were the skeletal remains of fallen titans, all with their heads skulls detached from their bodies.
"Set up a parameter and stay vigilant." Without a worded answer from his team, a short man in the same uniform as his comrades got off of his horse; the dark green cloak of his corps fluttering behind him.
He walked over the the huge skeletal structure and inspected the severed section of the neckbone.
"One clean cut." He mumbled, his cold grey eyes and calm expression never changing.
"Captain, whatever happened here is quite spectacular." A woman noted from behind him. He turned his head, looking the lady in her eyes past her glasses and frowned.
"Not quite the word I'd use, but it's definitely interesting." He replied in a flat tone.
"But what if it's a new type of abnormal? Orrrr what if it's a new type of titan all together? Just the thought of getting my hands on that specimen make me wanna~~" Quivering and holding herself with a heated expression, she didn't finish her sentence.
Levi scoffed, but he knew she would be this way from the start. That's just the nature of a crazy scientist like Hange Zoe.
Looking around the area Levi noticed the ground seemed to be indented in a few locations. The body of Titans were too light to dent in the ground they walked on and the area wasn't in the shape of a footprint.
Not only that, there were some scattered bone laying around as well, meaning the suspect wasn't just cutting the heads clean off the titans.
"Saddle up, we're going to keep going east for a bit before we return." He informed the soldiers, taking one more look at the huge skulls evaporating under the sunlight.
.....
*SNAP!!*
With a heavy punch, Cloudius broke the jaw of a titan he clung to before taking the sharpened tip of his gauntlets and slashing at its nape.
*THOOOM~*
Dismounting the fallen abomination, he scoffed.
"Using the wepons of the empire on such unworthy creatures should be blasphemy. Hiding away from such things should be the same. For where is the leader of this world? I have yet to cross paths with its warriors, however few it is." His tone was laced with disdain.
After encountering a few more destroyed settlements, he began making a mental note of their locations, leaving talismans as landmarks. With his psychic power he was able to get a mental image of the furthermost points of their exploration.
With that in mind, he traveled in the direction they were deploying from, using every settlement as a milestone for how close he was to the main residence of humanity.
From time to time he would spread his psychic power and speak to the minds of anyone within a 2 km range, calling for their immediate coordinates. Although he received no answer, the map he had drawn seemed to be leading him in the right direction.
With nothing more to go off, he continued to purge the titans from this world as that was his foremost duty; no matter the world, no matter the cost.
