Abandoned talented woman decides to live a leisurely life with her family

Chapter 6

On the same continent lies an independent country known as the Duchy of Delasland, nestled adjacent to the Kingdom of Baumgarden. Surrounded by a lake, its territory is an island at the center of this body of water. Governed by an ancient ducal family, Delasland is considered a neutral nation.

The duchy is renowned for its university town, boasting the highest standard of education on the continent. It attracts princes, princesses, and the most gifted sons and daughters of aristocrats from all corners of the world. Among these institutions, Delasland Public University stands out as the most prestigious.

Admission to these universities is highly competitive. Even princes and princesses from influential kingdoms cannot leverage their status for enrollment; admission is solely based on merit. Graduating from Delasland Public University does not automatically confer status; one’s achievements in their career determine their standing.

Anneliese’s father, Balthazar, attended such a university in his youth. During his time there, he had a classmate who later became Queen Alexandra.

“What! Second place again! …And first place is taken by the same person again…”

A young Princess Alexandra was visibly frustrated, glaring at her report card. Balthazar happened to pass by.

“Oh, Your Royal Highness. Falling short of your goal once more?”

Within the school, princes and princesses shed their noble titles and interact as peers. They spend four years together as classmates, regardless of their noble lineage. Balthazar, adhering to this custom, addressed Princess Alexandra informally.

“Balthazar! Whose fault do you think it is!”

Flushed with anger, Princess Alexandra turned to face him, addressing him by his first name. This informal address reflected their rivalry as classmates who excelled academically and were comfortable challenging each other.

“I was advised by the third son of a nobleman from the Kingdom of Vula, despite our inferior military strength compared to humans, ‘If you cannot excel in combat, hone your intellect and pursue civilian roles.’ It was a jest, of course…”

Balthazar nonchalantly recounted the anecdote, eliciting further ire from Princess Alexandra. The Kingdom of Vula, a neighboring nation on the same continent, prided itself on military prowess.

As other students observed the exchange, a burly figure pushed through the crowd without regard for decorum.

“My grades~! Red marks mean extra lessons!”

Ignoring Balthazar and Princess Alexandra, the imposing figure seized the report card, inadvertently displacing several onlookers with his robust frame.

“Ah, Reinard, you’ve come at the right time.”

Reinard, also known as Reinalt, hailed from the prominent earl family in the Duchy of Delasland. Destined to inherit both his family’s leadership and the title of Duke, he possessed exceptional physical prowess and military prowess. However, his academic performance left much to be desired.

Concerned about his son’s future, Reinard’s father mandated his attendance at Delasland Public University to cultivate wisdom alongside strength.

“If you fail to gain admission to Delasland Public University, I will reconsider your position as my heir.”

Motivated by his father’s ultimatum, Reinard worked diligently to secure his place at the university. Despite barely meeting the entrance requirements, he struggled academically, prompting a flurry of reprimands from his father. Dejectedly, Reinard slumped in the hallway, where Balthazar crossed paths with him.

Observing Reinard’s earnest efforts, Balthazar took pity on him and offered his assistance.

Thus, Balthazar became Reinard’s academic mentor, providing guidance and support to ensure he passed his exams without receiving failing marks.

“Hooray!”

Reinard’s towering frame made it easy to spot his name at the bottom of the report card amid the crowd.

“No red marks! Now I can report this to my father!”

Flushed with pride, Reinard rushed to embrace Balthazar, expressing his gratitude.

“Balthazar! Thanks to you, I’ve succeeded once again! I owe you a great debt. Anything you wish, just name it!”

With a wry smile, Balthazar patted Reinard on the back, accepting his gratitude amidst the heartfelt embrace.
