Chapter 10: Ava's House.

"Stay with me tonight, Kai," Ava smiled sweetly, extending her hand towards him while he took a step away from her.

"Don't be ridiculous-"

"I am deathly serious though," She continued smiling with her eyes closed.

"Are you?"

"Absolutely serious, Kai," She spoke again, reaching even further when he seemed to take another step away from her. "Stay the night, my mother doesn't care and my father won't either," She added, and his expression sobered.

"Why are you going through such lengths for me when we barely know each other, don't you think you're coming on too strong now?" Kai asked her, but Ava shook her head and approached him grabbing his hand before he could back away again.

"You see me, Kai, you actually see me," She whispered, holding his hand with both of hers and chuckling, "And you seem like you need a bit of company too," She spoke with a little less liveliness than before, showing him that she was serious about it.

"Come home with me, if you really do disappear tomorrow, then..." Her grip on his arm tightened after she trailed away. "Besides, I'm off-limits, remember?" She smiled changing the topic. "You are supposed to make sure I stay that way."

"You need therapy."

"Ha, you are therapy enough!" Ava laughed and began leading him by his hand until he separated their fingers and continued following her, much to her glee; he could have said no, he could have turned her down and left, but he was actually coming with her, the girl was already planning wedding vows in her head as she walked one step ahead, humming happily.

"There's no way this is normal in any regard," Kai stared at her short hair bouncing while she walked, thinking as open-mindedly as he could considering his situation and how everything seemed to be happening one step after the other. "There's no way in hell she's normal, what's your goal, Ava, what are you after, are you actually an enemy as well?" He wondered, and while he did the strips once more manifested on his arm and he began grinding his teeth as the thought to snap her neck crossed his mind.

"I ought to just kill her now to be sure and then disappear, it should be easy, she is fragile..." His scowl turned into a grin when he began reaching for her. "Also, why isn't there a demon following her, and if she's that good of a person then where is the light like Susana has?"

"...no," He calmed down once more. "I would rather everyone just die without me lifting a hand, just die by yourself and stop trying to drag me into it!" Kai grabbed his hair in frustration while making absurd gestures and biting his tongue, he only stopped with his antics when Ava began laughing hysterically.

Looking up, he realised that the reason she was laughing was because they were at the front of a yard and she was facing him.

"You aren't about to get possessed, are you?" Ava continued laughing, holding her stomach and banging on the mailbox next to her. "We're here, Kai, this is my home," She gestured to the small house and began walking to the front door, maintaining that same bounce to her step. "Come on," She gestured and started going through her purse.

"There is no way these people would just let their daughter walk through the house with a guy, what am I doing here, this is stupid," Kai shook his head, but for some reason he was still following her.

Now at the door, the girl turned to him and reached for his hair sticking her tongue from the side of mer mouth in focus as she ruffled his already messy hair and then rolled up the sleeves of his shirt. "Gosh, you're such a handsome son of a devil!" She squealed and then quickly turned and began fixing her uniform when she heard someone at the door.

"What the hell, who the fuck is this?" a bald man seemingly in his forties asked as soon as he laid eyes on Ava and then Kai. "Who the fuck are you?"

"Back off asshole, he's just a friend from school," She ground her teeth and pulled out a small fold of money from her purse shoving him to the side, taking Kai's hand and pulling him through the door while the man started laughing.

"This stupid bitch finally got some sense knocked into her and started selling herself, is he your first or have you been fu-"

"Don't start with that again!" Ava violently spun and swung her hand at the man, but to her shock he caught her by her wrist and huffed, raising his other hand and folding his fist, Kai was there passively watching the scene with a blank expression, but when he saw that fist swing he was there to catch it in a flash, turning the man's hand away and frowning at him.

"Are you trying to find the devil that soon?" He began squeezing the man's wrist.

"How dare you try to hit her in front of me, I don't care who you are, I'll end you, you old shitbag..." Kai fumed while Ava, stunned by his sudden inetevention and rescue looked to the ground and shook her hand free of her father's, shaking her head as a blush crept up on her cheeks.

"Come on," She took Kai's hand and separated him and her father with a huff. "My room is upstairs, I have everything you'll need there," She urged him along.

"Ava," Kai pulled his hand away from her after they began ascending the stairs and she stopped walking turning to meet his gaze with the most empty expression he had seen on her since they met. "Do you-"

"No... I send myself to school with online freelance stuff, I may come off as an idiot, but there's no way I would ever fall that low," She shook her head and took his hand again, "I waited my whole life for you; my silver-eyed angel to come, I would never." She smiled softly at him.

"Not bad, he's cute," A woman's voice came from the top of the stairs.

Turning, Ava's eyes went lifeless again when she came face to face with a woman who seemed like an older version of herself, she had a bottle of wine in one hand and a baby on her hip, and walking past them going down was another man, chuckling as he buttoned his shirt.

"I told you that if you're gonna start doing this, you should only do it on weekends for some extra cash like I did, but whatever, the more the better, get ahead and maybe you can-"

"Stay out of my affairs, Mom, what the fuck?" Ava pulled Kai past the woman and towards her locked door. "Let's just get in," She shook her head at Kai who was about to say something again and unlocked it pulling him in and slamming it shut with a low and stressed sigh banging her head on the door several times.

"Please, don't think any differently of me because of them," She grabbed her wrist, squeezing it until her fingers were red and she could feel her pulse in the side of her head.

"I won't." Kai answered dryly.

"My older sister is probably in her room with someone too," Ava looked up at him and gestured to the room at large. "Make yourself at home, I'll take a shower first then we can talk a little after you do the same, kay?"

Her cheerfulness from before had been utterly erased, there stood before him a sad girl on the verge of tears after interacting with her parents, but slowly, her smile returned and she looked up at him. "Kai?" She asked, already finding him sitting on the bed with his hands folded.

"Go ahead, I'll wait."
