Chapter 9: Stay With Me Tonight.
"Do you have a death wish?" Kai raised Andrew clean off the ground with his one hand staring in his eyes after an irrational amount of rage started piling and swelling within him.
"I didn't mean anything by it I swear!" Andrew grabbed on with his hands for dear life, kicking his feet in fright. "I swear!"
"Why were you following me?" Kai raised him even higher and then revealed his other hand, the veins across his skin were all swollen and pulsing violently and there were three black strips across his forearm that had not been there before, slowly, another one began tattoing itself parallel to the others. "Answer me!"
"I wasn't, I live across the road from you!" Andrew finally spoke when he started feeling doom at his doorsteps, and with that simple answer, the sensation of impending death began to ease while a particularly eminent gust of wind slammed into the three of them fanning his hair about and revealing two more of the marks on his forehead obscured by his hair.
"Spitt..." Kai repeated his surname, thinking to Susana saying a few days prior that their neighbours had a rather funny name and that he should be polite to them.
"As in the neighbours in front of us with the funny name?" He asked and Andrew began nodding furiously, loosening his grip after Kai set him to stand and seemed to be calming down. "You moron, why didn;t you lead with that then, I was ready to fuck you up-"
"I... was trying to seem cool," Andrew adjusted his glasses, picking up his bag and dipping inside of it for another snack, opening and digging in. "A-anyways, I thought it was cool, what happened back there, I mean, people died, I saw seven deaths, but it was still cool, you're amazing, Kai Mora you run as fast as a car and you can thro grown adults like dolls-"
"...Don't say my full name," Kai narrowed his eyes, glancing around for signs of anything else that had followed them. "Go home, Andrew, I don't want the death of anyone else on my hand, go die some other way that has nothing to do with me," He turned and began walking in the opposite direction of his home once more.
"What about you?" Andrew stared at his back when he realised that he probably had no intention of returning home. "Your mom greets you at the door every day, don't you think she'll go out if you don't return home?" He asked causing Kai's stride to halt as he thought of how close he and Susana were, they didn't have a parental relationship, she treated him more like a doting older sister would, she loved him, she was just the type to do something like that.
"Can you do something for me then?" Kai turned to Andrew and the latter raised his eyes hopefully. "Tell her to leave the house tonight and meet me at school tomorrow morning, if I'm not there with her sometimes bad things happen, my father isn't..." He trailed off with his gaze low. "I'm asking you, please tell her to leave that house tonight, Andrew."
"I understand," Andrew's childish demeanor was erased in the face of a serious matter. "Will you at least tell me what those things were, cause they sure as hell weren't human, they pretended to be but as a fan of the paranormal I know possession when I see it," Andrew approached but paused when he saw the black strips on Kai's left hand again. "N-not to mention... one of them was missing his entire lower jaw, and that woman had a hole in her chest."
"Demons, they were demons... look, it doesn't matter what they are, I hope I never see them again," Kai admitted and then turned to Ava who had silently listened to them for the last few minutes. "I'll see you tomorrow, I hope I don't, but I probably will."
"I'll get going then, don't die overnight Kai, you're too interesting for an off-screen death," Andrew waved and turned, jogging off."
"Off-screen what?" Ava furrowed her brows in confusiom, only coming back to her senses after she was the last one remaining. "Kai!"
"I have told you to go home so many times already, why are you so stubborn, Ava?" He asked sticking his hands in his pockets as he walked down the street hearing her feet tapping behind him.
"Are you hungry?" Ava called back at him and he stopped walking immediately, staring at the ground in defeat, his wallet had fallen out back in the marketplace when he was tackled to the ground, and aside from the breakfast Susana gave him he hadn't eaten a single thing all day.
"...Yeah."
°°°Several minutes later in a street restaurant.°°°
"I knew you were hungry this time," Ava sat opposite of him with her chin cupped in her palms and her elbow rested on the small table while he slowly ate, smiling at how reserved he had become after she bought him food. "Doesn't this feel like a date?"
Instead of a response, he continued to eat making sure none of what he had was spilt or wasted.
"So... marked by hell and followed by demons, huh?" Ava seemed a bit more serious, though she still smiled while she watched him savouring the food he was having.
"I have to admit, I was a little taken aback and even thought you were crazy after you said something as insane as the devil tellin you that the world would end soon; but after what we went through earlier, I have no choice but to believe that there are indeed entities from hell after your life, or at least something that isnt't human from somewhere that might be hell," Ava laid the topic on him thickly and sighed through her nostrils.
"What I want to know, is why, and also, how are you so strong?" She queried more.
Kai glanced up from the food to the girl before him and then slowly looked at the food once more and sighed, she was earnestly following him and it was annoying, but at the same time she had been willing to die for him without even knowing why, she deserved an explanation after the evening they'd had.
"I have no Idea, about any of that."
"What?"
"I dont know," Kai repeated. "I have always been stronger than the average person is supposed to be, it may be why they are after me, and on the topic of them, I don't have a clue, ever since I was a kid after my mom died, I started seeing them everywhere I turn," Kai glanced at a couple walking by with two entities following one person each, holding hands just like the people were.
"I don't know how or why, it's just been like this." He placed his fork in the plate and clasped his hands before it.
"Ava, it's dangerous to be around me-"
"I know, but I can't help it," She chuckled from across the table, picking up a napkin and wiping his mouth with an endearing expression that left him speechless. "From the moment I met you I knew, Kai, when I die, you'll be the one holding me, I'll draw my last breath in the arms of this beautiful soul..." She continued smiling, even as his eyes slowly widened and his blank stare turned into a shocked and disturbed one.
The lights silhouetted his eyes, hiding them when he reached for her warm hand against his cheek and held on to it. "Ava."
"Yes?"
"Thanks, but I would rather not have that happen to me twice in my lifetime, forget about me and live for as long as we have left," Kai lowered her hand onto the table and stood. "I'll say goodbye when I come by tomorrow, go home and get some rest." He gave her a bow of thanks and stepped away from the table, leaving her staring at her arm where he had held on.
"You don't have somewhere to stay, right?"
"I'll figure it out," Kai waved behind himself.
"Just stay with me then."
Once again, she had said something that caused him to stop and question his day while staring at the ground in confusion.
"What?" Kai quizzed, turning and almost staggering away when he found her right before him with another box of food in her grasp. "Oi-"
"Stay with me tonight."
