Advent of Cataclysm.

Chapter 21: "Vessel."

"Andrew!" Ava arose from her bed panicking when the ground beneath them and the walls around them began shaking violently.

"Andrew!" She called again, but the young man was sleeping soundly even while the walls of his cell collapsed in a loud crash.

"For heaven's sake- get up!" Ava grabbed a random porcelain cup from her table after her glass walls shattered and tossed it across the hall, scoring a perfect hit to his shoilder, almost catching him in his face.

"Whuh~" Andrew slowly opened his eyes, rubbing his arm and sitting up with a groan while he looked across the hallway at her, but a second later he had to duck when Ava nearly kicked him in his nose.

"Are you crazy!?" Andrew held on to his hair as if it wold fall off when her foot had safely passed over his lowered head, but before he could start a rant about attacking people in their sleep, Ava grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him to his feet, slapping him across his cheek for good measure and shaking him like a doll.

"Something's wrong, let's find Kai." She stared at him, and he slowly looked around, seeing and hearing more glass walls in the hall breaking one after the other.

"O-okay..." He held on to her hand and uncurled her fist from his shirt. "Do you remember where he is?"

"I do, they blindfolded me for six days so I counted the steps and made note of every new rush of ventilation that passed over me when I... Wah!" Ava and andrew nearly got blown away in a flameless explosion that destroyed the floor above their heads and caved.

"Kai?" Andrew optimistically leapt to his feet, but it was only a large machine that had left a hole in three flooors coming down towards them.

"It's not gonna be that easy." Ava scoffed, pulling him to his feet again and keeping their hands locked this time while she covered her eyes with her other hand. "Andrew, I'm putting my trust in you here," She slowly spoke to him, and looking at her blinded state he hummed and held her hand tightly.

"Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you; I'll be your eyes."

"Alright," She took a deep breath and began walking slowly.

"Let's go."

°°°

The tremors never stopped, at first, Ava contributed it to Kai causing another incident like he'd done when he was in the eastern wing of the facility, but now she was unsure.

It was constant, and for some reason, Andrew had been comoletely silent, there were no guards approaching them, and every now and then a random panicking person would run right by without so much as a word towards them.

"Andrew," She called to him and felt his arm shift as he flinched in reaction to her voice. "Tell me what's happening out here?"

"Bodies, Ava," He quietly responded. She did notice that he would slightly pull her in one direction every few seconds, but she would haven never attributed that to a bunch of dead people.

"What are you talking about? Is that what i have been smelling this entire time?"

"No, don't," He shook her hand. "Stay focused, this isn't something you want to see." He answered her, holding his mouth as soon as he stopped speaking to prevent himself from hurling up his dinner.

As the freckled teenager had stated, there were indeed bodies; every face he had recognised, and a lot he didn't, the guards and staff had all been slaughtered and left pinned to the walls with large bony spikes through their chests.

Their stomachs were gouged out, leaving the intestines folded into bundles on the floor beneath them, but more terrifying that even that were their missing eyes and their broken jaws, each and every one of them that he had found the bravery to look at had their faces contorted in terror.

"Who could have done this?" Ava asked, but he remained silent for a whole minute before he responded.

"Just stay focused so we can find Kai as quickly as possible."

"Quick isn't really an option, Andrew," Ava countered his attempt at rushing her. "I have to do it exactly as I have for the last six days, if I hurry I'll mess up." She explained.

"Right."

He was being brave for her sake, but he was terrified to the point that his body refused to even shake. The tremors had been happening for at most ten minutes, which meant that something really fast, incredibly vicious and fast was somewhere inside of this unnamed facility with them, and it had already killed a most if not all of the staff by now.

"Wait." Ava stopped walking when she started hearign distinct tremors rather than the constant shakin gof the ground and walls.

"What's wrong?" Andrew started scanning the hallways as soon as she said it. "Do you hear something, do you sense something?"

"Sense, what am I, a Z Fighter?" Ava removed her hand from her eyes and looked at him, but as soon as she did her focus shifted to the dozens of bodies strung across the hallways in every direction of the intersection they had stopped at.

"O-"

The wall next to them shook and cracked with a loud tremor as if tomething had exploded on the other side of it, and then it began swelling outwards sending more cracks across the floor and ceiling around them.

"This looks dangerous," Andrew started pulling Ava back down the hallway they had emerged from.

"Andrew, no, if I lose count I won't remember how to find him!" Ava snatched her hand away and stood, watching the cracks rip through the building around her while he slapped his forehead, grabbing her again.

"Are you fucking serious, Ava, you can't find him if you're dead!" Andrew snapped at her. "Are you seriously that dumb?!"

"Let go of me!" She pulled her hand away again and pushed him just as the wall he was trying to avoid caved and Kai came bursting through the rubble, his teeth clenched and a frantic expression across his face as he was driven barefooted across the bloody ground by a large one-handed humanoid creature.

"Kai!" Ava called out as soon as she saw him, but he ignored her completely as he and the creature passed.

"Kai!"

°°° Approx. Ten minutes ago.

"The first Collapse is upon us, call my name and save yourself-"

"Hey, doc, you still hanging around?" Kai ignored the voice beyond its warning and raised his head.

"Huh... I am here, Kai it is midnight, do you want something?" Calvet answered after a few seconds, fixing her glasses and looking at her wristwatch. "I can't offer you any other special privileges for today, maybe tomorrow-"

"There is no tomorrow." Kai retorted, grinding his teeth as the alarms in the building started going off. "Today is the start of the end."

"Are you serious?" She asked skeptically but almost immediately after she had reised the question Kai's hand was free from the makeshift confines and he was in the middle of removing his blindfold.

"I'm only telling you because we shared a moment and you more or less admitted to being a bitch, whatever happens after this is solely your responsibility to bare though, wether you live or die is totally up to the choices you make and your luck." Kai looked at the chain holding him and chuckled when he realised that there was no way he could break it.

"Do you mind?" He asked, but there was no response from the other side.

"Eyes..." Calvet whispered, he couldn't see her but he could tell she had backed to the other side of the room and fallen after hitting the wall. "Your eyes..." She covered her mouth again when it seemed like he was now staring at her.

"They don't look that bad." Kai stared at himself in the glass, seeing his sclera a dark grey and his pupil and Irises white in comparison.

Amidst staring at himself, kai started hearing screams out in the hallway, the small moment of peace he had after seeing again for the first time in five days was over. "Listen carefully, Calvet, do not make a sound, don't even breathe if possible, don't move, stay completely still." e warned her just before a bloody spike was driven through his door and someone on the other side screamed out.

"Kai Mora, speak my name now, my name is-"

"Come on in," Kai ignored the shadow within himself once more, calling to the snarling hissing creature he could hear on the other side, while the presence that had remained inside of the room with him for the last few hours quickly retreated.

"Vessel..." A sick sticky tone reverberated throughout the room as the door was slowly forced open.

First came the claws, scraping across the metal door and leaving sparks as they dug through it, then came the eyes, bright and red with nothing to distinguish them otherwise, it had the head of a bat, with elk-like horns that broke the walls when it forced its head in.

It stood on its hind legs scraping against the ten foot high ceiling as it stared at him looming with a slender build of short legs and long bloody arms that dragged at its sides while black saliva dripped from the corners of its mouth.

"There is a gate nearby, Kai, that is a lesser demon in the flesh, speak my name!"

"I have discovered the first Vessel," The demon spoke again, turning it's hand in a motion to swipe upwards. "Platinum hair. This is the one that kills demons and opposes Hél, the ally of the shadow that haunts, I was warned..." It hissed, feet tapping against the ground and echoing through the large room.

"I was advised by my bretheren, to kill Kai Mora..."
