Chapter 22: The Bat-Headed Demon.
"I was instructed by my bretheren, to kill Kai Mora."
"That does seem to be a recurring theme lately," Kai smirked, he knew he was in trouble, but just how much trouble was yet to be determined. "Are you going to disappoint your bretheren or are you going to kill me and be done with it?" He asked taking a deep breath and relaxing his body.
"What is he doing?" The doctor behind the screen thought, though she made no sound just as he had instructed, she was too afraid to move, too afraid to even start moving.
She wanted to run away, but the bloodied spikes that had been driven through the walls told her that any such attempt would have likely ended in her immediate death, so she obeyed his instructions and stayed put, hopoing that her breathing was not enough to alert the lovecraftian horror next door that she was there.
The demon shrieked, shaking in agitation swinging its hand upwards as it had intended, and Kai watched intently as the long large bloody limb tore into the ground, displacing tiles and slicing through them as it came at him.
It was a risk; a big one at that, but he was weiging his options here as better than calling the name of the Shadow of the Apocalypse and possibly getting possessed. For all he knew, this thing was another demon that was trying to deceive him into possession so it could take him to the Red One.
The other demons seemed to know it, and it kept saying the same thing, even as he watched the clawed hand rise off the ground out of the tiles in its approach, it still screamed at him to say its name.
The risk paid off.
The demon had expected to skewer Kai into the wall and detatch its claws in his body, leaving him there as a trophy, but its red eyes widened further in shock when the large chains that were on Kai's torso blocked the strike and rattled.
In its moment of confusion, Kai grabbed the creature by its clawed hand and hooked the curved appendage inside of the chains surprising it as it tried freeing itself by pulling at them, loosening them from the wall and allowing him to easily fall through it.
"If anyone else had just tried that..." Kai glanced up at the enraged creature above him diving to the side when it further hooked its fingers inside of the chains and yanked them with a roar tearing the wall apart with nothing but brute strength. "They would have been crushed by the weight of that blow!"
"Sneaky..." The demon commented, looking at its damaged claws and then under its arm at Kai who was pressed against the wall and slowly moving towards the open door. "I see why you have escaped the hands of my bretheren, you are cunning, Kai Mora, a suitable host for the master."
"No thanks, my body is mine to control," Kai shook his head still making his way to the door, but in the flash of a second the demon's hand was right next to him on its way to cleaving him in half, on instinct he leapt, but that only made room for the other hand to fly over the first and swat him like a fly into the wall.
All the confidence that had been built to that point was shattered, he was sure that no bones were broken from the fact that he landed on his hands and feet, but at the same time he was in so much pain that his entire body began shaking while blood slowly dripped from his nose.
The creature before him cackled and started speaking, but Kai's hearing had also taken a blow, all he could hear were birds, even the voice in his head had been drowned out by the pain making waves throughout his body, but amidst the pain, the panic, and the pending death sentence, Kai started feeling a familiar heat across his skin.
Slowly, the black inky marks appeared, forming lanes parrallel to each other while the sweat from his panic and the blood that dripped from his body began steaming, his breath became hot leaving puffs in the air with each exhale.
His eyes widened in his peripheral when he caught sight of the demon's hand again, but already too late to dodge the swift attack Kai only managed to raise his left hand in an attempt to protect his head when the hand collided in him.
The swift attack flung him across the room once more, denting the wall in a loud crash that further destroyed the foundation, sending cracks throughout the glass that had been the only thing untouched thus far with the doctor holding her mouth on the other side.
She was supposed to still be afraid, but from the safety of that room the woman was once again standing right at the screen watching in awe as Kai ducked, weaved and dodged several consecutive attacks that she had not even been able to percieve until they had left a scar across the walls and floor.
"Fascinating... this is evolution at work... an apex species..." The woman mused, forgetting what she was doing and what was happening outside of the room.
She flinched when Kai was swatted once more, but then clenched her fists in excitement when the small bit of dust caused by the slowly caving wall revealed him perched sideways, staring at the demon as it roared and tried grabbing him with its two hands.
"This is amazing," Kai stared in awe. "I can fight this monster... this demon, with my bare hands!" A smile appeared across his face, but was very quickly removed when the hands clamped over his body forcing him to curl up in a ball within its palms.
"Kai!" The doctor screamed from fright when the demon raised its short legs, folding itself and kicking kai straight through the wall and out of sight.
"Another human?" The demon leaned its head to the side, staring at the screen while the woman held her mouth again and ducked beneath the glass watching fragments fly over her head when it swung its hand destroying everything with a single swipe and then flinched when a metal chair collided in the side of its neck.
"I'm not done with you yet, bitch," Kai came running towards it, suffering a backhand that sent him right back through the hole when the demon turned to him shrieking and tunnilg through as well.
"Huh...?" It paused, puzzled when the room it had sent Kai through was empty, save for a large device in the middle of the room with a hole through it, fused to a table like a sideways barrel that was rooted to both the floor and the ceiling; an MRI machine.
"Huu~" Kai slowly breathed from above the creature, perched upside down and staring at it, his original goal was to try choking it out, but those arms were too long, and its neck was thicker than a grown adult's torso, his plan had backfired before he even set it into motion.
"I can smell the blood on you, I feel that infernal heat inside of your body!" The demon spun and swung at him, but like a shadow, Kai leapt from the ceiling to the ground and then through the machine, barely managing to escape its hand as it tried grabbing him before he escaped again.
"It doesn't matter, does it?!" Kai caught a finger and held on from the other side, bracing his legs on the machine and pulling with all of his strength. "You're physical now, I can hurt you, I can kill you!" He grit his teeth and closed his eyes, focused on the pull when the creature began shrieking and roaring from the opposite side, thrashing when it realised it was stuck.
"I don't care if you're the devil or just his lackey, I'll tear anything apart that comes at me, remember this!" Kai felt more heat surgine through his muscles, bringing him the closest he had been to his morning episodes as the pain he felt also skyrocketed with it.
"Graaaaahh!!" He roared, tugging and then opening his eyes in shock when the arm alone came through the machine, sending him crashing backwards into the wall and hugging the arm with his face contorted in confusion.
He was trying to get the demon stuck, but in a twist he should have expected, the demon roared and tore its shoulder off with a series of bites releasing its arm more enraged than it had ever been since its conception at the dawn of mankind.
"I will poulverise you into mounds of flesh and feast on your entrails!" The creature leapt backwards from the machine and then grabbed it, roaring even louder as it tore it out of the ground and ceiling with a single yank, wailing it like a weightless pillow across the room and then tossing it at Kai.
At that moment, as Kai watched an MRI scanner bounce in its pursuit of him his mind could only fathom a singular thought.
"What the hell am I trying to do here?!"
