Chapter 52 - Snake’s Worries II
In truth, Xuan Ming didn’t have much time to dote on his spouse.
God had been constantly reminding him to prepare for the heavenly tribulation, and he knew he had to seize the time to help his spouse fill the cellar.
It coincided with the fourth month of spring, when everything was blooming and bearing fruit, making it an ideal time for harvesting.
Xuan Ming gathered all the ripe fruits he could find, regardless of their taste, and stored them on the top floor of the cellar. He also went to the grassland to collect various vegetables and fruits, mainly wheat and various plant seeds. He believed no amount was too much.
After completing the top level of the cellar, attention turned to the freezing area at the bottom.
Xuan Ming held Wan Zhong’s waist, tapped his toes in the air, and walked up to the tree canopy on the wind. All the birds and animals in the forest came into Xuan Ming’s view.
He asked his mate, “What do you want to eat?”
Wan Zhong, afraid of heights, hugged Xuan Ming’s swaying sleeves and didn’t react at first. But upon seeing Xuan Ming’s mirror standing nearby, it gradually transformed into a pale golden light like a translucent sword, Wan Zhong’s heart skipped a beat, and his face turned pale with fright.
Wan Zhong quickly scolded Xuan Ming loudly, “Xuan Ming! What are you doing! You’re about to face the tribulation! Are you going on a killing spree?! You’re insane! You are trying to anger me to death!”
Xuan Ming turned a deaf ear as the wind emanated from his body, scraping across Wan Zhong’s face like a knife.
Wan Zhong remembered that Xuan Ming once said the taboos thing in cultivating Taoism and immortality was committing murder. Although he hadn’t done it directly before while catching prey for Wan Zhong, if killing was considered a form of karma, back then Xuan Ming indirectly violates the taboo.
Now he actually wanted to go on a killing spree just to leave meat for Wan Zhong?
Wan Zhong felt Xuan Ming was truly foolish! His mind was truly twisted!
He hugged him, beat him with his hands, and yelled at him with all his strength, “Don’t always be so self-righteous! Can’t you talk to me first before being kind to me? My opinion matters! I don’t need it; I don’t need it at all! If you dare to mess around today, I won’t forgive you! Do you hear me!”
Wan Zhong was genuinely terrified for Xuan Ming!
He didn’t dare to think about the consequences of Xuan Ming’s actions. He shouted at him like a madman, hoping to prevent him from being impulsive. But Wan Zhong realized he couldn’t stop Xuan Ming, the snake grabbed the hilt of the sword with his right hand, ready to swing it. Wan Zhong covered his face and cried.
He was truly on the verge of being angered to death because of Xuan Ming!
Fortunately, Xuan Ming stopped the moment he saw Wan Zhong’s tears.
They sat on a tall tree trunk, and after a heartfelt conversation, Xuan Ming understood Wan Zhong’s thoughts: being truly kind to someone meant not imposing one’s own wishes on them. Instead, it meant asking them what kind of help they needed.
Wan Zhong mixed rotten plants into the mud, smeared it all over his body to mask the big demon snake’s scent, then took a torch and set off.
.
At this time, most animals that had migrated for the winter had returned, but not all were the originals. The animals needed to find new nests and readapt to the changed jungle environment.
Wan Zhong dug pits and set traps near several water sources where animals frequented. He maintained the original natural conditions as much as possible and used sea salt and fruits as bait.
Because of previous failures, Wan Zhong put extra effort into ensuring success this time. He sprinkled mud around the trap and carefully smoked the surrounding area with a torch lit on leaves.
While waiting for prey to take the bait, Wan Zhong asked Xuan Ming to take him to the wide river where they had caught fish and shrimp before.
This time, Wan Zhong didn’t use fishhooks or make baskets.
He built a dam in the river with wood and stones, hung shiny objects that could attract fish on the traps passing through the dam, and watched as the fish came one after another. Swimming into the trap, they were tightly entangled in the fishing net.
The efficiency of this approach was extraordinary. What pleased Wan Zhong the most was the success of the trap he had dug in the forest.
But before he could examine its contents, a purple lightning bolt passed through the canyon and aimed straight for Xuan Ming. As it chased him, Xuan Ming flashed and used his ultimate move, “Kaka!” slashing randomly.
Wan Zhong was stunned.
He was right next to Xuan Ming, yet the terrifying lightning seemed to have a mind of its own. It didn’t strike him at such a close distance but instead chased Xuan Ming around, striking from various angles.
Wan Zhong briefly thought he could act as a lightning rod for Xuan Ming, but Xuan Ming refused.
He insisted that he had to overcome his own tribulation alone, and taking advantage of others wouldn’t lead to enlightenment.
.
Before parting, Xuan Ming wanted Wan Zhong to fulfill the promise he made…
“How long has it been, and you’re still thinking about this?” Wan Zhong was speechless as Xuan Ming transformed back into a human and laid in the stone nest.
Just as they were doing it, Bai Tianxian suddenly barged in.
“Brother! Save me!”
Both Wan Zhong and Xuan Ming were startled!
Wan Zhong coughed, quickly positioning the mirror in front of the stone nest, blocking Bai Tianxian’s view.
“Brother, where’s Wan Zhong? I need to tell you something.”
“He’s not here,” Xuan Ming, taking the cue from Wan Zhong, said in a hoarse voice. “Just tell me.”
After circling around, Bai Tianxian, seeing that Wan Zhong was indeed absent, felt guilty, he blocked the cave entrance and then said to Xuan Ming, “Brother, the thing is…”

It was the promise of the throat fun thing
