Alter My Fate

Chapter 5: Revived Life

(September 12, 1993, 06.00 am)

"Havi... Havi... Breakfast is ready. Come on, wake up!", shouted a woman calling.

Havi, who still had his eyes closed, immediately woke up when he heard a scream that was so familiar to his ears.

"M- Mother...!!!", replied a surprised Havi.

Havi looked around with wide eyes. This small room, this study table, and the textbooks neatly arranged in an empty instant noodle box.

Havi looked at the calendar on the wall of his room that he made himself using paper. Their own family did not have a calendar at the moment.

Havi made it himself at school by copying it from the school calendar. He made a full calendar for 1993.

And also made another one to hang in his living room, so that for matters of day and date, parents no longer have difficulty in determining ones.

Even though it was dim because the village did not yet have electricity, but with Havi's sharp eyes, he could see the numbers quite clearly on the calendar.

Havi's habit is to always mark with a pen when a day or date has passed. He looked at the last cross on the calendar that he had marked and was flabbergasted.

"It is now Sunday, September 12, 1993. It's probably 6am now. And.. What the heck... 1993?! Seriously?! That means I'm currently 17 years old and still in my 3rd year of high school!!", said Havi half shouting.

It turns out all of this is true, this is real. Havi gets a second chance to live from God. There are feelings of joy, sadness, and pride at the gifts that God has given.

Havi walked then looked in the mirror. The handsome young face that he recognized from the reflection in the mirror, further increased his gratitude to God.

Havi even feels that now, his face looks more handsome compared to when he was 17 years old in his old life. Immediately, Havi knelt down and then prostrated himself on the floor.

'Allah.. My God.. God of the Universe.. Thank you once again for this gift," said Havi, who was crying while prostrating himself.

Knock.. Knock.. Knock..

Havi's door was knocked three times accompanied by the sound he really missed day and night in his old life.

"Havi.. Son? Are you awake? Breakfast is ready," said Mrs. Saras, Havi's mother.

"I...I'm awake, Mom. Wait a minute, I'm changing clothes?", answered Havi who was still crying while prostrating himself.

"Okay... You go out and have breakfast soon, okay?", said Mrs. Saras again.

"Y.. Yes ma'am..", replied Havi then got up from his prostration and immediately went out to his family's simple dining place.

(At the Dining Table)

It was at this small, simple rectangular dining table that Havi's happy times in starting his days began in the past. Memories of his first and second lives seemed to be mixed up in Havi's mind.

'Oh God... I'm really back,' Havi said in his heart then slowly his tears started to fall again.

Tap.. Tap.. Tap.. Tap..

Havi heard the sound of footsteps from two people who were about to enter the room. The sound of four footsteps at every step made Havi's heart beat even faster.

When the two people entered the room, Havi immediately ran towards the two of them, hugged and kissed them, then kneel under their feet too.

This incident made Havi's parents, Mr. Ridho and Mrs. Saras, look at each other. What's wrong with their child today, these two middle-aged people must have thought.

"Havi... What's wrong with you, Son?" Mr. Ridho asked Havi.

"Dad.. Mom.. I was wrong all this time. Forgive me," replied Havi who was still kneeling between his parents' legs.

As parents, Mr. Ridho and Mrs. Saras, although they both seem a little confused about their child's current condition, both of them were still trying to speak wisely while holding back the tears that would soon fall from their eyes.

The two of them, who really didn't know anything, could only forgive whatever mistake Havi had made. The two of them then told Havi to immediately stand up and tell them about his condition.

When Havi stood up and saw his only child, Mr. Ridho and Mrs. Saras was a little perplexed.

They both slowly remember the Havi they know, even though he has a tall and dashing body, and has white skin, but not as ones as this.

"Dad.. Mom.. What's wrong?" Havi asked his parents.

"Son... it turns out you're all grown up," replied Mr. Ridho then patted Havi's left shoulder. Mr. Ridho secretly felt proud of his son.

"That's right, son.. I was just as amazed as your father. Seeing you grow up so fast makes me very touched. It feels like just yesterday you were born and I was holding you, and now...", answered Mrs. Saras who stopped her words and then cried.

"Dad.. Mom.. I promise that starting today, I will be more diligent in studying. And I also promise to help you to get additional income to improve our family's economy", Havi said determinedly with a sparkling expression in his eyes.

"Son.. There is no need to think about our family's economic problems anymore. We will provide all your needs", said Mr. Ridho, who in his heart felt worried about Havi's determination.

"It's okay, Dad. I'll think about how to get extra income later.. Now, come on Dad and Mom, let's have breakfast together. It's been almost 30 years since we've all been at the same dining table. Mom... I also really miss your cooking. Since you two died...", said Havi, who accidentally blurted out something.

Mr. Ridho and Mrs. Saras, who heard Havi's words, were shocked beyond words.

Actually, what's going on with Havi today?

His words felt so strange, he even said that they both seemed to have died a long time ago.

Havi, who had just realized this, cursed himself in his heart.

'Tongue.. Tongue.. What's wrong with you? You keep slipping things up. I should quickly separate the memories of my past life. If not, this could be serious,' Havi said in his heart.

"Son.. What do you mean you haven't eaten at the same table with us for over 30 years? And also earlier you said that we were both dead? Are you sure, son, that today is fine? If you are sick, let me take you to the doctor", said Mr. Ridho who touched then Havi's forehead which did not feel hot.

""It's weird... You look healthy and don't have a fever," said Mr. Ridho again.

"Is it better if we just take Havi to the health center? I'm worried," continued Mrs. Saras, who also checked Havi's forehead, as if they were both Havi's personal doctors.

'Come on guys.. Do you two think I'm nutty?', Havi said then sighed.

"Dad.. Mom.. That's not what I meant. What I meant was that I once heard the story from my best friend, Yono. He once said that one of his uncles really missed his parents who had died a long time ago. Yono's uncle said that he often imagined eating together with his parents like when Yono's uncle was young." explained Havi with multiple reasons.

"So that's how it is" , both parents answered at the same time, nodding.

'I'm relieved..', said Havi in his heart.

"Case closed, everyone. Let's have breakfast together", Mr Ridho finally invited the two people he loved the most to have breakfast together with a delighted heart.

However, Mr. Ridho and Mrs. Saras did not know that Havi was currently having breakfast while thinking about something else. It's about his best friend named Sayono aka Yono.

'Yono.. In my previous incarnation, you always give your hand to me. Even you are the first person to stand up and put your body on display, and also always defend me, even though it is all the result of my criminal actions so far'.

'My faithful friend.. In my revived life, your benevolence won't go unrewarded..', Havi's determination in his heart.
