American Comics: The Strongest Villain

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: New Pillow

True freedom is not just the ability to do what you want but also the power to refuse what you don't want.

When Su Sheng came to this world, he thought he was free.

He had no intention of sleeping on the floor. So, while Felicity was still processing what he meant, Su Sheng had already lifted the quilt, laid down, and casually wrapped his arm around her. Her body stiffened, then went soft, as Felicity lay frozen in place, as if someone had cast a spell on her. She clutched her phone tightly, but her mind went blank, unable to move.

"This new pillow is a bit small," Su Sheng muttered, adjusting himself, and slowly closed his eyes.

It was unclear how long it took before Felicity dared to quietly glance at Su Sheng. Seeing that he seemed to be asleep, she cautiously tried to remove his arm from her body. But as soon as she moved it, his arm found its way back, draping over her once more. This back-and-forth battle over "territory" continued several times, with Felicity eventually giving up. Fine, what's yours is yours.

Felicity watched Su Sheng, feeling both helpless and irritated. She silently cursed him in her heart. But as the minutes passed, her eyelids grew heavy, and she eventually drifted off to sleep.

In her dreams, she saw herself freshly graduated and starting a new job at the Queen Consolidated. She and her boyfriend rented a small but cozy apartment, and they worked together to clean it up. They ordered takeout, as neither could cook. That evening, her boyfriend sweetly wanted to get close to her. Shy and nervous, Felicity felt like she had finally found someone she could spend her life with. As she gradually stopped resisting and began to respond, her boyfriend playfully avoided her advances, which annoyed her, prompting her to take the initiative again.

Then everything started to blur, and she woke up.

She found that Su Sheng was gone—and so were her pajamas.

As Felicity tried to piece together her fragmented dream, she felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her. She realized that the boyfriend in her dream looked exactly like Su Sheng.

"Damn it, why would I have such a dream?" Felicity muttered angrily. Her irritation only deepened when she glanced at the alarm clock and suddenly remembered—she was supposed to start her new job at Queen Consolidated today.

"Oh no, I'm going to be late!" Felicity panicked, rummaging through her clothes. In her hurry, she scrambled out of the bedroom while dressing and dashed into the bathroom to wash up. Five minutes later, she was out, grabbing her bag and shoes, ready to rush out the door—only to notice Su Sheng sitting calmly on the sofa, watching her.

Mortified, Felicity's eyes twitched, and she blurted out, "I get off work at five," before hastily rushing out the door.

Bang!

The door slammed shut, and Su Sheng shook his head with a smile. Felicity was far more amusing than Harley Quinn.

Stretching out on the sofa, with the sun's rays gently warming his body, Su Sheng closed his eyes and began to think. Green Arrow hadn't emerged yet, and there was no news of the S.T.A.R. Labs explosion in Central City, so his current focus shifted to the Legends.

The mission of the Legends of Tomorrow is to travel through time, fixing various anomalies and protecting the timeline. If he caused enough of a "historical deviation," they would have to show up. That would give him the opportunity to travel through time with them. As for whether they would accept him on board?

Life didn't teach him much, but it did tell him one thing: if you want something, take it!

Since he was in Starling City, Su Sheng set his sights on Laurel Lance. Laurel was a character driven by a strong sense of justice, kindness, and integrity. If she could become Black Canary earlier and gain the ability to protect herself, then her sister, Sara Lance, wouldn't need to betray the League of Assassins to protect her and their father. Sara wouldn't be killed by Thea under Malcolm Merlyn's control, wouldn't be resurrected by the Lazarus Pit, and wouldn't join the Legends. Without their captain, the Legends would have to cross time to find out what happened.

Besides, Su Sheng was somewhat interested in Laurel herself—not to make Oliver Queen's life more complicated, but because he was curious. What would happen if Green Arrow returned, ready to save the city, only to find that all the villains and criminals had already been dealt with? Would he continue as Green Arrow or settle down into a quieter life?

Chances are, Oliver would still choose to be Green Arrow, but this time his opponent might be Laurel.

The drama of love and conflict was cliché, but undeniably captivating.
