Chapter 93 The Program Inspection Team’s Opportunity, a Clash of Wits, Wang Yun Targeted

Ying Yuezi took a deep breath, her emotions complex as she thought about the two program officers who died because of her.

“I will avenge you,” she declared, her expression impassive but her eyes filled with resolve. She then returned to the interrogation room, her gaze sweeping over where the three murderers had been detained.

“Why did he ‘kill’ the three murderers? Was it purely for provocation? No, that’s only a 50% chance, considering he played a role in capturing them.”

She pondered, “So, why would he kill the murderers and also disappear for a while, only to return? Moreover, I’ve learned that Wang Yun had only one remaining disguise mask. Why would he risk exposing his last identity just to provoke me? Does he have some sort of ace up his sleeve?”

Captain Ying Yuezi stood there for several minutes, her eyes cold as she mulled over these questions. There were aspects of the situation she couldn’t understand. She took out her phone and dialed a number.

Simultaneously, in the program task force office, a phone started ringing. The five captains sat there, frowning in frustration as they sifted through the data.

Wu Mingyu heard the ringing and answered immediately, “Hello.”

“Hello, this is Ying Yuezi, the sixth captain of the Skynet Operation program. I’ve encountered a problem and need the program’s inspection officers’ help to investigate,” Ying Yuezi stated directly. She needed clarity on certain points.

“The sixth captain? Captain Ying Yuezi?” Wu Mingyu was taken aback for a moment. “What problem have you come across, Captain Ying Yuezi?”

Wu Mingyu and the other captains were unaware of the events that had transpired with Captain Ying Yuezi.

“I was working on the Zhao Yuexingchen case, and Wang Yun infiltrated it by pretending to be an expert. He ‘killed’ two program officers and provoked and humiliated me. His last disguise has been exposed, but I still have many doubts and need the program officers to investigate,” Ying Yuezi stated plainly.

“What?” Wu Mingyu was taken aback, his eyes sharpening. “He ‘killed’ two more program officers? Where are you, Captain Ying Yuezi? We’ll come to you right away.”

“Okay.” Ying Yuezi nodded and provided her location.

“Mingyu, what’s going on?” Jiang Youshan, hearing his conversation, quickly looked in his direction. The other captains also turned their attention to him.

“Senior Jiang Youshan, our sixth new captain…” Wu Mingyu promptly briefed them on Ying Yuezi’s situation.

“Ying Yuezi? The Ying Yuezi from Cherry Blossom Country who spent several years in Liberty Country? The young prodigy?” Kolyev Smith stood up immediately upon hearing the name Ying Yuezi, his face showing surprise.

“Captain Kolyev, do you know her?” Wu Mingyu asked, intrigued.

“I’ve heard of her. A very talented young woman, only in her twenties this year. She’s already been outsmarted by Wang Yun even before joining our task force?” Captain Kolyev widened his eyes, then squinted slightly, “This makes me feel a bit better. There are those who have it worse than me.”

Wu Mingyu, “???”

Jiang Youshan, “???”

“Your apprentice is no more,” Wang Yue commented calmly, causing Kolyev’s face to darken, as if he had swallowed something bitter.

“Alright, let’s head to Captain Ying Yuezi’s location immediately to see what’s happening. With Wang Yun’s last disguise exposed, it means all his identities are now revealed,” Jiang Youshan declared, heading outside. The other four captains quickly followed suit.

***

“Haha, I can’t stop laughing. That foreigner, seeing Captain Ying Yuezi in a worse state, seemed somewhat schadenfreude, but his apprentice is gone!”

“Kolyev: I was slapped in the face when I first joined the task force, but now I feel much better since Ying Yuezi was slapped in the face even before joining.

Captain Wang Yue: Your apprentice is gone.

Kolyev: ???”

“Laughable! Captain Wang Yue is so sharp-tongued. Kolyev looked so embarrassed just now. Hahaha, now the foreigner has completely lost his temper!”

“Now, how has the show’s task force’s style changed? It’s like a competition of who has it worse. I feel better if you’re more miserable than me? Haha!”

“Big Brother is too strong by himself. I really wonder how the captains of the task force can compete with Big Brother. Big Brother is just too powerful now!”

In the livestream, the audience couldn’t help but laugh at the unfolding scene. The dynamics within the program’s task force certainly had changed.

Jiang Youshan and the other captains quickly made their way to Ying Yuezi. Meanwhile, Ying Yuezi returned to the surveillance room to review all of Wang Yun’s footage.

Soon after, Jiang Youshan and the other captains arrived at the surveillance room.

“Hello, Captain Ying Yuezi,” they greeted upon seeing her.

“I’m already informed about you, captains. My name is Ying Qiezi,” Ying Yuezi nodded to them, then pointed at the surveillance monitor. “Let’s skip the formalities. I’ve discovered some issues in the surveillance footage.”

“Alright,” the captains nodded, turning their attention to the monitor.

“Look at this footage. Wang Yun is impersonating this middle-aged man. He entered the department in the bureau that is responsible for making identity documents,” Ying Yuezi pointed out, referring to the scene on the screen.

“Creating identity documents?”

Her comment caused a subtle change in the expressions of the five captains. Producing identity documents implied that Wang Yun had acquired a legitimate identity. Their gazes were fixed intently on the screen. The entire bureau was under surveillance, capturing all of Wan Yun’s actions.

“He’s made three,” Wu Mingyu observed closely, his brow furrowing as he spoke.

“Yes,” confirmed Ying Yuezi, “I just checked, and one of these identity cards belongs to the middle-aged man he’s disguised as. Based on our information, Wang Yun only had one more disguise mask left. Despite having these IDs, why did he act out?”

Wang Yue’s eyes twinkled thoughtfully, “Although Wang Yun is driven by revenge, he usually acts only when he’s certain of success. It’s unlikely he’d expose his last identity just for a simple act of retaliation.”

Kolyev’s expression gradually returned to normal. He turned to his apprentice and instructed, “Everything online leaves traces. Ames, check all the digital footprints on this computer. Find his other two identities.”

“Understood, master,” Ames responded immediately and followed a program officer to proceed with the task.

“Finding those other two identities he created would be ideal,” Ying Yuezi nodded in agreement.

“He had only one disguise left, yet he chose to reveal it. This suggests he either has another disguise mask or is confident he can obtain the means to create one,” she deduced.

Jiang Youshan speculated with a slight frown, “But we’ve taken control of all the stores in Nancheng that sell disguise mask supplies, including their supply chains.”

“What if he didn’t buy them in Nancheng?” Ying Yuezi interjected, pausing thoughtfully.

“Um?” Her suggestion momentarily startled the other captains.

“I need to confirm something,” Ying Yuezi continued, taking a deep breath. “I want to investigate Zhao Yuexingchen’s fourth murderer. Let’s send program officer to check whether the families of Cen Ciya and the other two murderers received any money. If so, we need to find out who sent it. Also, check if the three murderers recently contacted any wealthy individuals.”

Hearing her plan, Jiang Youshan nodded in agreement, “Captain Ying Yuezi, we’re not fully aware of your situation, but we’ll dispatch program inspectors to investigate right away.”

“I need these answers to form my next hypothesis,” Ying Yuezi affirmed.

In the livestream, viewers began speculating based on Ying Yuezi’s deductions.

“Captain Ying Yuezi seems to have a clue!”

“The fourth murderer should soon be uncovered by Captain Ying Yuezi.”

“Once found, can we lock in on Hu Sanqing?”

Meanwhile, Kolyev received a message from his apprentice Ames through his communicator, “Master, I can’t find any trace of Wang Yun’s activity on the computer.”

“Huh? How come?” Kolyev responded in surprise. “Can’t you find it?”

“It’s untraceable, master. Wang Yun must be a computer expert, with skills at least as strong as mine. He’s erased all traces. He’s seamlessly integrated his new identity into this nation of over a billion people. We can’t find him unless we check each ID meticulously,” Ames reported, sounding equally astonished.

The fact that the opponent could erase all traces to the point that even he couldn’t find them suggested his skills were not far behind his own.

“Damn,” Kolyev muttered, his face darkening as he let out a curse. “How can this Wang Yun be so perverted?”

The idea of verifying identities one by one from over a billion people was like chasing a fantasy.

“Wang Yun must have anticipated we would check this computer since he dared to expose his identity,” Wu Mingyu speculated, massaging his temples. “He’s truly a fiend.”

This dead end left the captains feeling frustrated and helpless. Ying Yuezi, however, remained impassive, having anticipated this outcome. She stood silently, waiting.

After more than half an hour, the program officers relayed new information, “Captain Ying Yuezi, you were right. The relatives of the three murderers, Cen Ciya, indeed received a substantial sum of money. We’ve traced the funds back to the Jiujiang Skyline Five-Star Hotel. The hotel owner, Hu Sanqing, who has recently been in contact with Cen Ciya and Zhao Yuexingchen’s agent, is most likely the fourth murderer.”

“Captain Ying Yuezi, should we bring him in as a suspect?” the program officer asked.

“Yes, bring him in,” Ying Yuezi nodded, but then paused abruptly, her gaze sharpening. “Wait a moment.”

Suddenly, an idea struck her, prompting an involuntary exclamation as her expression shifted.

“Captain Ying Yuezi, what’s wrong?” Wang Yue asked, noticing her startled look.

“I have a hypothesis. If it turns out as I suspect, Wang Yun is incredibly cunning,” Ying Yuezi, with a furrowed brow and a tone of wonder, turned to the program officers. “Investigate all of Wang Yun’s movements this afternoon to see where he’s been. Also, look into the locations of Hu Sanqing’s company and his residence.”

“What have you discovered, Captain Ying Yuezi?” Jiang Youshan asked, looking at her intently.

“I suspect that Wang Yun may now have subordinates,” Ying Yuezi spoke gravely.

“Subordinates?” The mention of this caught the attention of Jiang Youshan and the others.

“Yes, subordinates. Specifically, Hu Sanqing is a man of substantial wealth and potentially the fourth murderer in the Zhao Yuexingchen case. The fact that Wang Yun dared to expose himself even after obtaining a legitimate identity indicates he has something to fall back on. He might have found a way to acquire materials for making human masks. Initially, I identified only three murderers in the Zhao Yuexingchen case, and these three took all the blame. But, in reality, there was a fourth murderer.”

“So, you’re suggesting wang Yun discovered the fourth murderer, so he approached Hu Sanqing and used this case to coerce him into obeying his commands and becoming his subordinate. With Hu Sanqing’s resources, he could easily procure skin mask materials from other cities, which aligns with the program’s rules,” said Jiang Youshan.

“Exactly. The reason for his return was twofold. Firstly, to provoke and humiliate me, and secondly, to ‘eliminate’ the three murderers, severing all leads to the fourth. This way, he maintains an overt eye on the operation,” Ying Yuezi analyzed with flickering eyes, her gaze becoming increasingly sharp. “However, he probably didn’t anticipate that I had already uncovered the existence of a fourth murderer in this case.”

“So, he has subordinates now. Can we start our approach from them?” Wang Yue asked immediately upon hearing this.

“First, I need to validate my hypothesis. If it’s indeed true…” Ying Yuezi spoke with intensity, addressing the captains, “This could potentially be a significant opportunity for us.”

“Captain Ying Yuezi, we’ve traced Wang Yun’s movements this afternoon. After leaving the police station, he headed straight to the Zunming Villa complex in Nancheng, where Hu Sanqing’s residence is located,” a program officer quickly reported with urgency.

“So it’s true, Wang Yun is truly formidable. He already unraveled this case ahead of me,” sighed Ying Yuezi, accepting her defeat.

“This means that finding Hu Sanqing will lead us to Wang Yun,” Wu Yaoming said, a spark of realization in his eyes.

“Wang Yun might have asked Hu Sanqing to get the materials for the disguise mask from other cities. Is this the reason behind Wang Yun’s audacity?” Wu Mingyu contemplated, his fists clenched.

“Definitely, without a doubt,” Kolyev affirmed, nodding firmly.

“Considering the timeline, it’s impossible for Wang Yun to have already acquired the mask-making materials so quickly. No, wait, we have already delayed a long time. Wang Yun could very well have those materials by now,” Jiang Youshan concluded, his gaze sharpening.

“Wang Yun is not easy to target, but Hu Sanqing is not. Let’s focus on locating Hu Sanqing,” Ying Yuezi decided, “After killing the three murderers, Wang Yun probably didn’t anticipate Hu Sanqing being exposed so quickly. Let’s track down Hu Sanqing’s phone number for his whereabouts.”

“Leave it to me,” Ames interjected as he entered the room. He took a seat with his computer, ready to start.

“Grant me the necessary permissions and give me Hu Sanqing’s number. I’ll start the tracking process immediately,” Ames said.

Immediately, a program officer nearby coordinated to assist.

“Just found it, he’s currently in the southern part of Nancheng. Take a look at this specific location,” Ames announced a few minutes later, showing the phone’s located position on the large screen.

“This is a logistics area in Nancheng, filled with numerous factories. Let’s investigate whether Hu Sanqing owns any industry there,” Wu Mingyu immediately instructed.

“Yes, Hu Sanqing owns a factory there, though the specifics of its operations are unclear,” a program staff member promptly replied.

“Excellent. Despite Wang Yun’s meticulous calculations, he missed one crucial point. Subduing subordinates, while advantageous, has also given us an additional target,” Jiang Youshan said, his face showing a sense of triumph. “He may be formidable, but that doesn’t necessarily mean his subordinates are equally capable.”

“With the phone’s location, we can track their movements. However, we need to act fast, otherwise, Wang Yun might become alert. Furthermore, he might soon get the materials needed to create a new disguise mask. We can’t let him succeed,” Ying Yuezi spoke, her tone laced with determination.

“I suggest we move immediately,” Wu Yaoming chimed in, visibly excited.

“Let’s act now, surround and capture him. Send more people. I refuse to believe he can still escape,” Kolyev added, his eyes gleaming as he spoke loudly.

“Let’s formulate our plan as we go. We can’t afford to waste any more time,” Ying Yuezi nodded, a slight smile playing on her lips, “I must admit that Wang Yun is strong, but he shouldn’t have provoked me.”

“Haha, Captain Ying Yuezi is truly remarkable. I excel at tactical planning. I’ll immediately order the program officers to head to the target’s location,” Wu Yaoming laughed, his face alight with excitement.

Finally, they had identified a vulnerability in Wang Yun’s strategy. At last, they were one step ahead of him. They were ready to exploit this opening and make Wang Yun pay.

The group, without any hesitation, quickly made their way outside.

***

“Incredible, Captain Ying Yuezi has completely analyzed everything about Big Brother and even pinpointed his vulnerability,” the viewers exclaimed in awe.

“How did Big Brother overlook this? Captain Ying Yuezi is terrifying. Though she was crushed by him, she quickly adapted and seized his weakness!”

“Big Brother’s execution was nearly flawless, yet he still left a single crack exposed. This woman is incredibly strong! Indeed, you don’t want to mess with women, especially the beautiful ones!”

Meanwhile, in the livestream, everyone was astounded by Ying Yuezi’s analysis and the unfolding scene. This kind of duel, searching for flaws, and the intellectual confrontation was utterly captivating.

“Big Brother is currently in that factory. It seems he is really in danger this time,” some viewers remarked.

***

The Linnan Logistics Area, located in the southern part of Nancheng, was the largest of its kind. The area was dotted with numerous factories and was somewhat secluded compared to the bustling city center, with far fewer people around. There were also some abandoned factories in the vicinity.

Wang Yun, after evading surveillance through several taxi changes, had arrived at this location.

“Have the computers, surveillance cameras, and similar equipment been bought?” he asked as he surveyed the factory.

The factory seemed to be rarely used, with its considerable size and various containers inside. The facility was also powered.

“Boss, we already purchased them,” Brother Hu approached Wang Yun, nodding in affirmation before leading him to a room.

Inside the room were five or six computers along with an array of surveillance equipment.

“I need a detailed map of the surrounding area,” Wang Yun requested.

“It’s already been prepared,” Brother Hu handed him a sheet of paper.

Wang Yun examined it closely. Now that he had acquired subordinates, he planned to establish a base, a stronghold of sorts, where he could store items, notably the firearms he had gathered. A ‘fugitive’ like him needed a home base.

Of course, Wang Yun didn’t intend to remain here indefinitely. Once he procured the materials for his disguise masks, he planned to reside in a hotel. This location would serve as a future operational point.

However, as a stronghold, it needed thorough preparation, including essential perimeter surveillance. Wang Yun, with his advanced electrical skills, faced no significant challenge installing the surveillance system. He tapped into a nearby power source for the installation.

These surveillance cameras were not connected to the internet but only to a local network, meaning only Wang Yun and his team could access the footage.

The factory and its surrounding roads needed careful monitoring setup to prevent any unexpected incidents.

After spending over half an hour on the installation, Wang Yun returned to the room and booted up the computer. Utilizing his exceptional hacking skills, he infiltrated the surveillance cameras in the vicinity of the factory. Soon, he had comprehensive control over the surrounding area.

Pleased with the setup, a satisfied expression graced Wang Yun’s face.

“Assign two people to monitor the surveillance and report any abnormalities immediately,” Wang Yun instructed Brother Hu. “Also, ensure the materials for the disguise masks are delivered here.”

“Alright, Boss,” brother Hu nodded. “The delivery will arrive in three hours.”

“Okay.” Wang Yun nodded and looked at brother Hu and his team, his brow suddenly furrowing in thought. ‘I seem to have overlooked something.’

Indeed, he had overlooked something. This wasn’t about himself, but about brother Hu and the others present. Wang Yun pondered deeply, reevaluating the day’s events.

‘I overlooked that I visited Zunming Villa in Nancheng today. Those captains will undoubtedly investigate. What’s the likelihood that Brother Hu and his team will be exposed?’ he wondered internally.

They could track his visit to Zunming Villa, but unless they cracked the Zhao Yuexingchen case and identified the fourth murderer, they wouldn’t guess that he had recruited Hu Sanqing as a subordinate. With the three murderers dealt with by him, it became harder to track the leads. Unless Ying Yuezi had identified the fourth murderer before he eliminated the other three.

What were the odds of that? Fifty percent?

Wang Yun assessed the probability.

‘A fifty percent chance is too risky. I can’t gamble on this,’ he thought, glancing at the time. It was already around 9 pm. ‘I should be relatively safer for now.’

Suddenly, one of his men watching the surveillance spoke up, “Boss, we’ve spotted a lot of cars arriving on the road near our factory.”

“No way!” Wang Yun’s surprise was evident on his face.

He had lost the bet. They had moved incredibly fast. Wang Yun’s expression turned grave.
