At the Beginning, the Villain Is Secretly Loved by the Protagonist’s Mother

Chapter 7:

Chapter 7: Lao Wang Educates Young People:

After returning home from a busy day, Wang Zhenxing took a relaxing bath to unwind. Just as he was settling in, his phone rang. A quick glance revealed an unknown number. He hesitated for a moment before answering.

“Hello, Mr. Wang, I’m Feng Qianqian, the waitress from Century Hotel. You tipped me 500 yuan earlier today,” came a cautious female voice from the other end.

“How did you get my number?” he asked, his tone sharp.

“I got it from my friend Lin Keqing. Please don’t misunderstand—I don’t mean any harm,” Feng Qianqian replied nervously. “I’m a senior about to graduate, and I’m really confused about my future. I was hoping to get some advice from you on how to plan my career.”

Hearing Lin Keqing’s name softened his demeanor slightly. Lin Keqing was a heroine, and any connection to her could lead to valuable opportunities.

He had already planned to investigate Lin Keqing’s background, but this unexpected contact from her friend might provide a quicker route.

“You do realize it’s already past eleven, don’t you?” he said, feigning disinterest.

“I’m so sorry to bother you at this hour. I’ll hang up now,” Feng Qianqian said, her voice filled with disappointment.

“My time is precious. I can’t talk now, but I might be at Century Hotel for dinner tomorrow night. If you have questions, come by then. I’ll give you five minutes—no more,” he said curtly.

Despite his indifferent tone, he was intrigued by the opportunity.

From their brief encounter, he had noticed Feng Qianqian’s ambition. She seemed impatient for success, a trait common among newly graduated students. People like her were easy to manipulate if handled correctly.

If he could win her over, she might serve as a useful bridge to Lin Keqing.

As he ended the call, he recalled Feng Qianqian’s petite figure. At 163 cm, she had a delicate frame with attractive proportions. While not as stunning as Lin Keqing, her natural charm was undeniable. If Lin Keqing scored a 97 out of 100, Feng Qianqian was a solid 92—a first-class beauty by most standards.

“Thank you so much, Mr. Wang!” Feng Qianqian exclaimed before hanging up.

Back at her shared apartment, she jumped with excitement.

“What’s got you so excited?” Lin Keqing asked as she stepped out of the bathroom, her damp hair wrapped in a towel.

The two friends, both seniors about to graduate, had rented the apartment together while searching for internships. Unfortunately, neither had found suitable positions yet, so they were working as waitresses at Century Hotel to cover their expenses.

“Oh, nothing. I just saw a funny video,” Feng Qianqian lied quickly.

She didn’t want Lin Keqing to know about her upcoming meeting with Wang Zhenxing.

With only five minutes promised, she wasn’t about to share her precious opportunity—not even with her best friend.

Even good friends have their moments of selfishness, and Feng Qianqian was no exception.

The next day came quickly.

Feng Qianqian was originally scheduled to work the day shift with Lin Keqing, but she swapped shifts with another colleague to ensure she’d be at the hotel during the evening. Lin Keqing, unaware of her plan, went home after her shift.

By dinnertime, Feng Qianqian was nervously waiting for Wang Zhenxing to arrive. The moment she saw him enter the restaurant, she immediately perked up.

After he ordered and began eating, she approached his table cautiously.

“Good evening, Mr. Wang,” she greeted him, bowing slightly in respect.

“Sit down,” he said, motioning to the seat across from him. “Before you ask anything, I need to understand your situation better. That way, I can give you more relevant advice.”

Feng Qianqian nodded, sitting down with a posture reminiscent of a nervous schoolchild in front of a stern teacher.

“What would you like to know, Mr. Wang?” she asked hesitantly.

“Let’s start with a simple question: How many boyfriends have you had?” he asked directly.

The unexpected question left her stunned. “Why would you ask that?”

“Unnecessary emotional entanglements only drain your energy. If you want to succeed, you can’t afford distractions. Now, answer the question.”

“I’ve never had a boyfriend,” she replied, her cheeks reddening.

“Be honest,” he said, his tone firm.

“I really haven’t. If I’m lying, let me look ugly!” she blurted out earnestly.

“Good. That’s already one important condition for success,” he said with a slight nod.

Glancing at his watch, he added, “You’ve got five minutes. Start asking.”

Not wanting to waste the precious time, Feng Qianqian began quickly. “I’m a journalism major at Qingling University, but—”

He interrupted her before she could finish. “You majored in journalism? Does your family have connections in the field?”

“No,” she admitted.

“Then why choose journalism?” he asked, his voice tinged with disbelief.

“Is there something wrong with this major?” she asked, confused.

He chuckled lightly. “Without connections, it’s nearly impossible to succeed in journalism. Even if you’re lucky enough to find a job, you’ll spend decades struggling to climb the ladder. In short, the future looks bleak.”

She looked down, her confidence faltering. “My family is very ordinary. My parents didn’t go to school, so they wouldn’t have known that.”

“Then let me give you some advice: Change your career path,” he said calmly.

“But I was one of the top students in my department! Doesn’t hard work count for anything?” she asked, her voice filled with frustration.

He leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable. “You clearly haven’t experienced how cruel society can be. Hard work doesn’t guarantee success—it’s a comforting lie people tell themselves.”

“It’s like the old saying, ‘Hard work will make you rich.’ But tell me, does hard work truly lead to wealth?”

Feng Qianqian was rendered speechless. The truth of his words struck a chord, shattering some of her naive beliefs.

Although she had been taught from a young age that effort and determination would bring success, reality seemed to paint a different picture.
