Chapter 130: Chapter 130: The Letter of Introduction
Chapter 130: The Letter of Introduction
As Mo Yu watched the elderly man in front of him down glass after glass of alcohol, he couldn't help but marvel at the strange and fascinating world of the Dou Qi Continent.
Xiao Yan had encountered one of the empire's top ten experts, Hai Bodong, in an inconspicuous map store. Now, by simply staying at a random inn, Mo Yu had met a mysterious and powerful blacksmith?
Although Mo Yu wasn't sure if he could build a lasting friendship with this mysterious old man, for now, it seemed the man had no ill intentions.
"Thank you, Senior Bing, for sharing information about the Qi Alliance. I'm deeply grateful." After saying this, Mo Yu poured himself a glass of wine, clinked it with the old man's cup, and drank it all in one go.
Mo Yu could tell that the elder loved alcohol. Although Mo Yu wasn't particularly fond of drinking, he downed several glasses to keep him company.
"You brat, you've almost finished all my wine!" the old man grumbled in dissatisfaction. However, judging by his expression, he wasn't actually upset—in fact, he seemed rather pleased.
Clearly, drinking with company was far more enjoyable than drinking alone.
"Waiter, bring us more wine!" Mo Yu smiled as he signaled to the inn's server.
At Mo Yu's request, the server quickly brought more wine and a large table of dishes, filling the table with delicious food. The three girls nearby—Qinglin and the others—couldn't resist the temptation and started eating. After all, they hadn't had a proper meal during their recent days on the flying magical beast.
"Haha, boy, you eat with your friends. It's time for me to go," the old man said with a satisfied smile after wiping his mouth and belching loudly, clearly content after the meal and drinks.
Mo Yu was taken aback. He had hoped to deepen his relationship with this elder, but since the man was leaving, there was no point in pushing the matter. Out of respect, Mo Yu escorted him to the door.
"Alright, no need to see me off," the old man waved dismissively as they stepped outside the inn.
"In that case, let's part ways here. I hope we meet again someday, Senior Bing," Mo Yu said with a light smile, abandoning any further plans he had in mind.
This situation was different from Hai Bodong's. Xiao Yan had been able to enlist Hai Bodong's help because Hai Bodong's strength had been sealed by Queen Medusa, and he needed the assistance of Xiao Yan's master, Yao Lao, to recover. Moreover, Xiao Yan had Yao Lao as a trump card, so he didn't fear any potential betrayal from Hai Bodong, making their cooperation safe.
Mo Yu, on the other hand, while possessing items that could pique the old man's interest—like crafting techniques unheard of on the Dou Qi Continent—knew that revealing too much without sufficient strength could easily lead to his own demise.
Before gaining enough power, Mo Yu didn't plan to expose his secrets.
"Kid, this is the most enjoyable drink I've had in a while. Since you were good company, I might share something you'd find interesting," the old man said with a faint smile.
"What kind of information?" Mo Yu asked, surprised.
"Something about the Qi Alliance…" The old man smacked his lips, as if savoring the taste of the wine. "The Qi Alliance is a relatively new organization, and blacksmiths are rare on the Dou Qi Continent. However, in the Mu Lan Empire, there are quite a few blacksmiths, and there's even a branch of the Qi Alliance there. Kid, are you interested in joining?"
Hearing the words "Qi Alliance," Mo Yu's interest was piqued. He chuckled, "Senior Bing, you must be a member of the Qi Alliance. Can you help me join?"
"The Qi Alliance isn't as powerful as the Alchemist Association, but it's not something you can just join on a whim. You still need to pass an assessment to get in. Whether you can join depends on your blacksmithing skills, not on me," the old man explained, shaking his head.
Mo Yu nodded. The fact that the alliance had someone like this elder already suggested it was a respectable organization, not one that would accept just anyone.
"Please, Senior Bing, could you tell me how I can join? I'd be extremely grateful," Mo Yu said, bowing respectfully.
"Haha, in the central region of the Mu Lan Empire, there's a city called Beast Wasteland City. The Qi Alliance has a branch there. Just ask around, and you'll find it easily. Once you're there, take this letter of introduction," the old man said, retrieving a parchment from his storage ring and handing it to Mo Yu. "Present this letter, and as long as you pass the assessment, you'll be able to join."
Mo Yu accepted the letter. The parchment had an intricate red furnace symbol on it, a design Mo Yu recognized as a blacksmith's furnace. Just like alchemists need a cauldron, blacksmiths also require a furnace. A furnace helps refine materials and enhances the crafting process, making it an essential tool for any blacksmith.
Since his rebirth, Mo Yu hadn't had the money to buy a proper furnace. Given his skills, he had managed without one until now. However, when the opportunity arose, Mo Yu thought it might be a good idea to craft his own furnace. Having the right tools would make future forging much easier.
"Thank you, Senior Bing. I'll definitely visit Beast Wasteland City when I get the chance," Mo Yu said gratefully as he accepted the letter.
His current journey to the Mu Lan Empire had two main purposes: to fulfill his promise to Master Frank by helping Xue Mei break off her engagement with the Liu family, and to go to the Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain Range to let the Vermilion Bird Burning Sky Thunder devour the Myriad Beast Spirit Flame. Now, it seemed there was a third destination on his list: joining the Qi Alliance in Beast Wasteland City.
"Alright, you've got the letter. Whether you pass the assessment or not will depend on your own skills," the old man said casually, giving Mo Yu an encouraging glance before walking off into the crowd. Within moments, he was out of sight.
Mo Yu stood in place for a moment, watching the elder disappear. After a while, he turned and went back inside the inn.
Although he wasn't sure why the elder had taken an interest in him, it seemed clear that the old man bore him no ill will. Perhaps it was just simple admiration.
"Mo Yu, you're back! What did the old man say to you?" Lin Fei, impatient and curious, immediately asked when Mo Yu returned.
"Nothing much, just saying goodbye," Mo Yu replied casually, deciding not to mention anything about the Qi Alliance. Glancing at the half-eaten meal, he added, "Finish your food and rest up. Tomorrow morning, we'll head to the Liu family and end Xue Mei's engagement."
Hearing this, Xue Mei's expression became slightly serious. Her beautiful eyes glanced at Mo Yu. Tomorrow's outcome would depend entirely on this young man. She could only hope her teacher hadn't misjudged him.
Mo Yu, however, remained calm and composed. The strongest member of the Liu family was merely a two-star Dou Spirit. If things didn't go well, he could simply summon his purple flame and see whose fists were stronger.
