Chapter 131: Chapter 131: The Liu Family

Chapter 131: The Liu Family

The next morning, due to the important matters at hand, Mo Yu and his companions all got up early. With Qing Lin's assistance, Mo Yu quickly got dressed. Although Mo Yu had previously told Qing Lin she didn't need to work so hard serving him, the young girl seemed to always remember her role as his maid and diligently attended to his needs, leaving Mo Yu somewhat helpless.

"Let's go settle the matter with Xue Mei and the Liu family," Mo Yu said with a smile as he stepped out of his room with Qing Lin. At the same time, he noticed that Xue Mei and Lin Fei had also just left their rooms.

"Xue Mei, don't be nervous. Mo Yu will help you successfully break off the engagement. He's an outstanding blacksmith, and with his four-star battle pet, the Liu family would be wise not to force you to marry their second young master," Lin Fei said, trying to reassure Xue Mei, who appeared a bit tense.

"I'm fine, Lin Fei," Xue Mei replied, feeling more at ease after hearing her friend's words. She then turned to Mo Yu and said, "Thank you for your help, Mo Yu."

"There's no need to thank me. I've been entrusted with this task, and it's my duty to see it through. Besides, Frank gave me ample compensation, so it's only fair," Mo Yu said calmly.

Seeing how composed Mo Yu was, Xue Mei felt a renewed sense of confidence about breaking off the engagement.

After some brief conversation, the group gathered their belongings, paid their bill, and left the inn. Before leaving, Mo Yu easily obtained directions to the Liu family's residence in West Wild City from the inn's waiter.

As the most prominent family in West Wild City and the surrounding region, the Liu family's name was well-known. Almost everyone in the city was aware of the Liu family's influence.

Following the waiter's directions, Mo Yu and his companions navigated through several bustling streets. After wandering around West Wild City for half an hour, they finally arrived at the Liu family estate, located in the heart of the city.

Looking at the enormous and luxurious manor that resembled a palace, Mo Yu couldn't help but be impressed by the Liu family's wealth and power. Compared to the Liu estate, the Mo family's headquarters, which resembled a fortress, seemed more utilitarian than grand.

As they approached the entrance of the Liu family estate, Mo Yu and his group were stopped by the guards stationed at the gate. "This is the Liu family residence in West Wild City. If you wish to enter, do you have an invitation from the head of the family?" one of the guards asked.

"An invitation?" Mo Yu repeated, glancing at Xue Mei.

"Please inform your family head that Xue Mei from the Xue family of Shuyang City has come to visit," Xue Mei said in a calm, clear voice.

The Xue family, to which Xue Mei belonged, was based in Shuyang City, located to the north of West Wild City. The Xue family was similar in power to the Liu family, also having a Dou Ling (Dou Spirit) expert among their ranks. The two families had arranged a marriage between Xue Mei and the Liu family's second young master due to a life-and-death bond between the previous generation's family heads. Mo Yu had learned this from Frank.

Recognizing Xue Mei's noble demeanor, the guards exchanged glances. Perhaps they were impressed by her elegance, or maybe they had heard of the Xue family. One of the guards quickly went inside to report her arrival.

Mo Yu and his companions waited patiently as time passed. After about fifteen minutes, just as Lin Fei was starting to pout with impatience, the gate to the Liu estate opened again, and an elderly man with a kindly expression stepped out.

"Hehe, I am the Liu family's steward. Which one of you is Miss Xue Mei?" the old man asked as he surveyed the group. His gaze eventually settled on the three women, as he tried to determine which one was Xue Mei.

"I'm Xue Mei," she said, stepping forward and handing the old steward a jade token.

The jade token was a betrothal gift given to the Xue family by the Liu family's head many years ago, serving as proof of Xue Mei's identity.

After carefully examining the jade token, the old steward's eyes narrowed slightly. He respectfully returned the token to Xue Mei and said with a smile, "Miss Xue Mei, it's an honor to have you here. Please, come in. The family head and others are already waiting in the reception hall."

"These are my friends. May they accompany me inside?" Xue Mei asked, gesturing toward Mo Yu and the others.

"Of course. Miss Xue Mei is the future mistress of the Liu family, so your friends are also our honored guests," the steward replied, though a trace of displeasure flashed in his eyes as he looked at Mo Yu.

In his view, as the fiancée of the Liu family's second young master, Xue Mei should maintain a proper distance from other men. This was the expectation for a virtuous lady and a future daughter-in-law of the Liu family. The steward made a mental note to suggest to the family head that the wedding between Xue Mei and the second young master be held as soon as possible. A proper Liu family wife should be devoted to her home and family.

Mo Yu noticed the steward's displeasure but wasn't concerned. After all, he was there to help Xue Mei break off the engagement, so it didn't matter what the steward thought.

After entering the Liu family estate, the group followed the steward through the front courtyard. The estate was vast and beautifully maintained. After several minutes of walking, they finally stopped outside the solemn reception hall. The old steward knocked on the door respectfully before gently pushing it open.

The reception hall was spacious and filled with many people. A stern-looking middle-aged man with a square face sat at the head of the room. The man exuded a powerful aura, making his presence impossible to ignore. He was Liu Ye, the current head of the Liu family and a two-star Dou Ling.

Seated to his left were several elders of the Liu family who held significant influence. Each of them had a strong presence, indicating they were all Dou Shi (Dou Masters) or higher. Beside them sat several younger members of the Liu family.

Among them was a particularly handsome young man with a tall, commanding presence that drew the admiring glances of several young women in the hall. However, the young man remained aloof, his eyes closed as if indifferent to their attention.

This was Liu Xing, the second young master of the Liu family.

As the steward led Mo Yu and his companions into the hall, the eyes of the gathered Liu family members turned toward them. The family was well aware of the arranged marriage between the Liu and Xue families, so when they heard that Xue Mei had arrived, many came to see the future mistress of the family.

Everyone knew that since the eldest son had died young, the Liu family would eventually pass leadership to the second young master.

As Mo Yu and his group entered, the Liu family members watched them with a mix of curiosity, scrutiny, and interest. Even the aloof Liu Xing slowly opened his eyes when he saw the tall, beautiful, silver-haired Xue Mei, a flicker of possessiveness crossing his gaze.

"Family head, Miss Xue Mei and her friends have arrived," the steward announced respectfully.
