BITTEN BY FATE

Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

Jasper's Point Of View

"Alpha."

"Alpha?!"

"Yes?" I groaned, snapping out of my thoughts.

"Are you okay?" The guard asked with curiosity. "Pardon me but you seemed out of space for some minutes... "

"I am fine, just tired. That's all."

"Okay sir, may I continue?"

"Sure." I cleared my throat.

As they kept on talking, my mind drifted away again. The weight of guilt was heavy in my heart.

"Alpha?" He called out again, I blinked and looked at everyone whose eyes were laced with curiosity and concern.

"Shall I get you something?" Olivia who sat quietly beside me spoke.

"No, I just need to rest." I stood. "Till later then."

"Yes, Alpha."

Everyone left minus Olivia who just sat there staring at me. "I can tell something is bothering you, what is it?"

Justina.

"What?" I puzzled.

"You look troubled, mind sharing with me?"

"No, I'm fine." I lied, I was far from fine.

I'm a coward, a huge big one at that, I lost the woman I loved because of my stupidity and now I'm regretting it.

"I will go to my room then," I didn't even wait for her to speak but left her all alone.

Did I make a mistake?

Was I doing the right thing?

Was throwing her out like that even worth it?

Was breaking her heart worth it?

My head was lost in thoughts as I sat on my bed, fingers tugging at my hair. It's been months since I betrayed Justina.

I know, I'm a coward but I did it-

I just wanted to protect her even if it meant it had to cost my happiness or have her hate me.

But was I right though?

What if I made the most foolish mistake ever? What if that wasn't what I should have done?

My head was so lost in thoughts that I didn't notice when Olivia came in.

"What is it?"

"Nothing." I snapped.

"What do you mean nothing?" She snapped back, her tone matching mine as she stared daggers at me.

"I said it's nothing so forget it."

I stood up but she blocked my path with her body and placed both of her hands on her hips.

"A problem?"

She arched one brow at me and then scoffed. "It's just... " she trailed off and avoided my gaze. "Did I do something?"

"No."

"Then why are you being distant and cold? Of all a sudden?"

"I'm fine Olivia, please let it go."

"No, it is not fine. Something is wrong."

"And you can't help it so get lost." I tried to shove her aside but she refused to leave and stood her ground.

"You know what? Suit yourself."

"Sure," I pressed a smile. "I will do so."

I stormed out of my room and dashed into my office. A guard followed me in but I dismissed him.

"If it is nothing important, then I'm not interested."

"Of course sir." He bowed and left.

I needed space and time to think, It's been days since I last slept, and at this point, I feared my eyes may fall off. What do I even want?

If I even see her right now, what would I say?

Would she even hear me out?

I knew everything, her past and what she was exactly and it scared me. If others got to know her life would be in grave danger and I won't be able to do anything about it.

Or am I just scared?

"Maybe I should just let it go," I sighed. "It's better this way."

The next day.

"Where are you going?"

"Nowhere."

"What do you mean nowhere?! You suddenly got dressed and you said you'll be away for some days!"

"Okay?" I replied nonchalantly, my voice empty and bare as my eyes didn't even meet hers.

Her face fell at my sudden response and she grabbed my arms turning my body to face hers.

"Jasper-"

I removed her hands away and dropped them to her side. "What?"

"Is something-"

"Nothing is wrong, okay? Just forget it! Just freaking forget it."

"I-"

"I will see you whenever I return."

I picked up my phone and left, taking no guards with me, I left the palace searching for Justina. I couldn't let anyone know, at least not until I found her.

I had to find her, I had to explain everything to her and apologize.

If possible, get her back into my life. If I care about that woman then I will protect her at all costs. Not knowing her true identity and being lost must have been heartbreaking enough and then I threw her aside.

What was I thinking?

It took me hours, days even but I got no leads. Phone calls from the palace kept coming in mostly from Olivia but I ignored them. I am a man, who the heck was I scared of? Why didn't I think things through before acting? Why didn't I think of the consequences?

I know it has been months but please- at least someone should have seen or heard-

"Damn it!" I slammed my hand hard against the steering wheel In frustration.

Is she even okay?!?! Where did she run off to?! If she landed in any rival- I shook my head trying hard not to think about it.

It's been months and I still haven't found her, the thing is... Will I ever find her? Will I ever get a chance to apologize and make up?

Disappointed, I went back. Immediately I arrived back at the palace, Olivia ran towards me with her arms wide open trapping me in a tight hug.

She frowned when I didn't react and just stared down at her with an unimpressed look. I was so dead tired and frustrated.

"It's been freaking days! What were you-"

"Olivia please!" I raised my voice.

"What is this about?"

"Nothing that concerns you."

"Oh really?"

"I just needed to do something important, that is it. Nothing more, nothing less."

Finding Justina was the number one thing to do on my list, I need to make everything right again and stop fooling around.
