Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Alpha Arlo Bianchi - POV
After I came back to my house, I had a warm shower before I made a call to my pack doctor. "Alpha Bianchi, are you feeling all right?" I heard his apprehensive voice as I walked towards my desk and took a seat.
"Yes, but I want to know certain things."
"Sure, Alpha Bianchi."
"Were you serious when you told me that there was only a twenty percent chance for my survival?" I asked him.
"Yes, Alpha. The silver had mixed with ninety percent of your blood, and despite everything I tried, we were failing, and we were gradually losing you as well. But I know for a fact that something must have happened for you to come back alive, Alpha Bianchi. Because it is not possible at all." he explained.
"Who was with me the entire time?" I asked him.
"Beta Yale, Miss. Yale and Luna Bella were the only people who were with you. But just before you woke up, it was only Luna Bella who was in there." he said.
"Thank you, doctor," I said and soon the phone line was disconnected. I know there is something off about this situation, and I guess I know just the person to confront. I quickly put on a black T-shirt and some joggers as I walked out of my room. The moment I entered the hallway, I was hit with the aroma of food.
Bella must have ordered some food.
As I walked into the living room, I almost froze on my place when I saw my kitchen. It was a total mess. There were flour, and vegetable peels all over my marble countertop, and the gas stove was also covered with sauce stains and god knows what else. I felt my heartbeat rise as I took a deep breath to calm myself. I have always been a neat freak, and I never like to see anything out of place. But looks like my dear mate is going to do everything to get on my nerves.
"Arlo, I made dinner," Bella said in a gleeful tone.
"I can see," I replied back in a cold tone as I walked towards the dining table. As I took a seat, Bella immediately started piling my plate with food before she took a seat opposite me. "I want to know something." I began, which made her look up.
"What is it?" she stammered, and I knew that something was off.
"I want to hear the truth, Bella. Do you understand?" I asked her as my tone clearly projected that I was not up for any bullshit. She stared at me for a couple of minutes before she nodded her head. "Did you have something to do with me waking up?" I asked her.
Ten minutes passed by in awful silence, and it was one of the longest ten minutes of my life as I saw her fumble with her fork when she finally looked me in the eye. "You saved my life, Arlo. And I didn't want you to die, so I had to take some drastic measures," she mumbled, and this made a frown appear on my face.
"What did you do?"
"I went to the library to research a possible cure for silver, and I did come across a book that had something related to my search. It stated that a healer or a gifted wolf could save you, but I know that it is a myth, so I opted for the second option," she said as she took a deep breath when her eyes moved to look at her left palm and that was when I saw a faint scar there. "But it did state that your true mate could save you. So I tried. And luckily, it worked." she said with a forced smile on her face.
"You know you could have let me die so that you would have got the chance to escape, right?" I asked her with a raised eyebrow.
"Even though I know that you are not going to accept me, I don't want to leave this pack by killing you, Arlo." her words made a dull ache form in my heart. The thought of Bella leaving my side made my world howl, but I knew I could never have her. I have done a lot of bad things and killed a lot of innocent souls, and I know that Bella would never be happy with me when she gets to know about it.
I know she already knows who I am, but when she sees what sort of monster I turn into, she would run for hills, and I would not be able to let her go if I fell in love with her. "You are stupid," I said as I dug my fork into the pasta and took a bite.
"At least I saved your life," she said in a duh tone. "Anyway, how is the pasta?" she asked me.
To be honest, this is the worst dish I have ever eaten in my life. The taste of herbs was so overpowering, and I almost wanted to spit it out, but as I looked at her eyes that were staring at me with so much expectancy, I knew that at least tonight I would not hurt her feelings.
"Good," I said in a monotone as I took another bite and then another. As soon as I finished my food, I got up from my place when she stood up as well. "Good night," I told her as I walked out of there. Even though I had recovered, my body still felt tired, so I decided to head back to my room to catch up on some sleep.
But for some reason, there was something nagging at the back of my mind. You cannot save your mate in that manner unless he has marked you.
Isabella Martini - POV
I couldn't believe it! Arlo liked my food. After he walked out of there, I sat down and placed a generous serving of the pasta. As I took a large bite, my face contorted and I spat it out. "Ew! How the hell did he eat that!" I grabbed the glass of water that was next to me and took large gulps of it to wash down the taste of rosemary, which made me want to puke.
