Chef’s Harem in Multiverse

Ch: 74 [A moment with Gwen]

"Huh!?" Gwen's mom looked at me with wide eyes and an open mouth. She paused for a second. Her tone shifted completely with disbelief, "Gwen is dating!?"

I nodded, trying to gauge her reaction. "Yes, we've been seeing each other for a while now."

Helen Stacy's expression shifted from disbelief to a mix of surprise and curiosity. She leaned forward slightly, her eyes fixed on me as if trying to decipher whether I was telling the truth.

"Wow," she finally said, her voice tinged with astonishment. "I can't believe it. My daughter is dating a world-famous chef!"

I chuckled nervously, feeling a bit uncomfortable under her intense gaze. "Well, I don't know about world-famous, but I do love cooking."

Her surprise seemed to evolve into genuine interest. "How did you two meet?"

"I met her when she came for a job interview," I replied remembering how Gwen tried to seduce me during the interview. It was kind of a sweet memory. "And she is focused and diligent in her work and I just... It's hard to explain but it just happened. She is just so sweet... And I feel so special when I am with her..."

Helen Stacy listened attentively as I shared the story of how Gwen and I had crossed paths during her job interview. Her curiosity seemed to grow with each word, and she appeared genuinely interested in our budding relationship.

"It sounds like fate brought you two together," Helen remarked, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "I have to admit, Gwen has always been a bit of a mystery when it comes to her personal life. She's quite private."

"Yeah, she is," I agreed, "But she's an amazing person."

Helen nodded in agreement. "She's always been a good kid, but she's had her share of challenges."

"Challenges?" I inquired, sensing there was more to Gwen's story than met the eye.

Helen hesitated for a moment, her gaze drifting away as if lost in thought. "Gwen's been through a lot in her life, especially after her father passed away. She had to grow up fast and take on a lot of responsibilities. It hasn't always been easy for her."

"I had no idea," I admitted, my concern for Gwen deepening.

"She's a strong girl," Helen continued, her voice tinged with pride. "But sometimes, I worry that she doesn't let herself have the happiness she deserves."

I couldn't help but feel a surge of affection for Gwen as her mother spoke about her with such love and concern. It was clear that Helen cared deeply for her daughter's well-being.

"I care about Gwen a lot," I confessed, "And I'm worried about her too. She's been distant lately, and I don't know what's going on. That's why I came here, hoping to find out if she's okay."

Helen's expression shifted, and a hint of sadness crept into her eyes. She let out a sigh before speaking, "I suppose it's time you know. Gwen lost her best friend a few days ago. It hit her hard, and she's been struggling to cope with the loss."

I felt a pang of sympathy for Gwen, realizing that the distance she had been maintaining might be her way of dealing with grief. "I'm so sorry to hear that. Losing a close friend is never easy."

Helen nodded, her gaze distant as she continued, "And this month marks the anniversary of her father's passing. It's always a difficult time for her. She misses him terribly. They were very close, and they used to spend a lot of time together in the little farmhouse they built."

The pieces of the puzzle started coming together in my mind. Gwen's recent behavior, her emotional distance, and her reluctance to talk about her personal life all made sense now. She was dealing with the double weight of her best friend's death and the anniversary of her father's passing.

"That explains a lot," I said softly, my heart going out to Gwen. "I had no idea she was going through so much. I just want to be there for her, you know? But she always tries to take it all on herself..."

Helen regarded me with a mixture of gratitude and concern. It was evident that she appreciated my genuine concern for Gwen, but she also seemed worried about the emotional toll these events were taking on her daughter.

"It's good to know that my daughter has someone who cares about her," she said, her voice filled with warmth. "She's always been fiercely independent, sometimes to a fault. But she's lucky to have you in her life, especially during these challenging times."

I smiled appreciatively, feeling a deepening connection with her. "I care about her a lot, and I want to be there for her in any way I can."

She nodded, her eyes conveying a sense of maternal approval. "I can see that. And I think Gwen needs someone like you right now. Sometimes, it's okay to lean on others, even when you're used to being the strong one."

"I'll do my best to support her," I assured her.

After a brief pause...

"You must be dying to meet her, huh?" She asked with a warm smile.

"Yeah," I replied, "I couldn't sleep properly for the past few days. I just found this address from one of her friends."

"Then," She stood up, "Take the straight road from here, take the first left, and go straight. There is a big field with a single house. You can't miss it since it's the only farmhouse there. You will find her there."

Helen's directions were clear, and I thanked her before making my way to Gwen's childhood home. The drive was filled with anticipation and a hint of nervousness. I had a thousand thoughts running through my mind about what to say, how to comfort Gwen, and how to be there for her during this difficult time.

As I turned onto the road she had described, the landscape began to change. The suburban neighborhood gave way to open fields, and in the distance, I spotted the farmhouse she had mentioned. It stood alone in a picturesque setting, surrounded by nature.

Parking my car, I took a moment to gather my thoughts and summon the courage to face the woman I cared about deeply. I knew that Gwen was going through an incredibly challenging period, and all I wanted was to offer her my support and comfort.

I parked the car outside and walked through the gate. And there she was sitting before a bunch of plants, wearing a yellow t-shirt and blue shorts, two blue gloves covering her hands, and her feet were covered with a pair of oversized rubber boots.

Gwen was engrossed in her task, her gloved hands gently tending to the plants in the small garden. Her face bore a solemn expression, and her eyes were focused on the task at hand. She seemed lost in thought, her movements deliberate and careful.

Approaching her quietly, I couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for her resilience in the face of adversity. She had been through so much, and yet she continued to face life's challenges head-on.

As I drew nearer, Gwen must have sensed my presence due to her spider senses.

"Are you angry?" She asked without looking back.

"Angry?" I replied softly, my voice carrying a gentle tone as I approached her. "No, I'm not angry. I was just worried about you."

She turned to look at me, and her expression was a mix of surprise and uncertainty. Her eyes, once filled with focus on the plants, now held a hint of vulnerability.

"I... I didn't expect to see you here," she admitted, her voice a bit shaky.

"I know," I said, taking a step closer to her. "I've been trying to reach you for days, and when you didn't respond, I got really worried. Helen told me about what you've been going through."

Gwen's gaze dropped to the ground as she continued to work on the plants. "I didn't want to burden anyone with my problems."

I knelt down beside her, my presence a silent show of support. "Gwen, you don't have to go through this alone. It's okay to lean on others, especially when you're dealing with so much."

She sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly as if a weight had been lifted off her. "I just... I miss him so much, Brian. And losing Peter on top of that... It's been really hard."

Peter Parker, the lizard, so, she was his friend, huh? I saw the news about how he died in that chemical shop. Poor bastard. But they didn't mention Ghost Spider's presence in there. I guess, they just hide the news.

I had a rough guess, but I thought MJ was closer to Peter.

Dang! This girl should have said something.

I reached out and gently placed a hand on her shoulder, offering a comforting squeeze. "I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you. But I'm here for you, Gwen. You don't have to face this pain on your own."
