Chapter 102: Chapter 102: The Class Reaches a Consensus
Almost everyone present was stunned by Kanda Shuichi's crazy plan. But if they could execute it perfectly, there was no doubt that Class D would be in first place in this exam.
Suddenly, everyone felt a rush of excitement—should we do it or not? Should we or shouldn't we? It feels so thrilling! No, let's do it!
"I agree with this plan. If someone wants to go back to the ship, that would be even better. That way, I can have more resources, and I have no reason to refuse," Koenji was the first to respond to Kanda Shuichi.
In fact, he wanted to go back to the ship, but if they had enough resources, living on the island wouldn't be much different from life on the ship. Plus, he could get a free pass from Kanda Shuichi—why not?
So after weighing the pros and cons, Koenji immediately supported Kanda Shuichi's plan and became the first supporter.
If they were going to do it, they had to do it perfectly. That was the kind of beauty he recognized.
Kanda Shuichi mentally gave Koenji a big thumbs-up. It seemed like this guy wasn't as unreasonable as he appeared.
"I'm in too. The people in the class always make fun of me, so I absolutely have to make something of myself," the second to join was Sudou. He'd been looked down on by most of the class, and that made him frustrated.
So, given this opportunity, he wasn't going to back down, and he actually thought the plan seemed very reliable.
"I also think this is interesting, so I'll join too. I'm not very smart, so if Shuichi makes the plan, I'll just go along with it," Miyake said, raising his hand as the balance of the situation started to tip.
"People who can perfectly carry out orders from their leader are also beautiful," Miyake added.
It was rare for Koenji to actually praise Miyake. This guy wasn't completely clueless about social norms after all.
"But how do you plan to convince the class to spend all 300 initial points? Especially Ike and his group — this time he's really motivated," Horikita said, frowning. She was intrigued by the plan and wanted to support it but clearly saw the challenge ahead.
"I'll explain things properly to Ike," Sudou stepped up, clenching his fists.
In truth, Kanda Shuichi had called Sudou not just for his physical strength but also for this reason.
If all else failed, Sudou could resort to force to make Ike comply. The process might be unpleasant, but as long as the result was good, that was what mattered.
"I'll handle convincing the others," Hirata nodded. "But I'd like to bring Kushida along as well."
Kanda Shuichi pondered. He hadn't called Kushida earlier because he thought she might not have the stamina for this plan. But if her help was needed, he might as well involve her.
Whether she would participate in the plan or return to the ship afterward would be up to her.
"Let me talk to her personally then."
After finalizing the initial plan, the group dispersed. Kanda Shuichi approached Kushida, who was resting nearby.
"Kushida, I need your help with something. Can you come with me?"
"Huh? Me? Um, sure!" Kushida stood up, looking surprised.
"Sorry, Mii-chan, I'll be right back," she said to a friend nearby.
"It's fine," the friend replied.
Kanda Shuichi led Kushida Kikyo to a quiet spot in the woods and started explaining his plan.
"This is my plan. I didn't want to involve you at first, but I'm afraid Hirata alone won't be able to convince everyone in the class," he admitted with a helpless shrug.
"So, implementing this plan will cause conflict with other classes?" Kushida's face showed hesitation. "But... everyone's my friend."
"Alright, drop the act. There's no one else here," Kanda Shuichi said, exasperated, resisting the urge to roll his eyes.
"Then can I know why you didn't want to involve me in the first place?" Kushida asked with a sweet smile. Kanda Shuichi couldn't shake the feeling that giving the wrong answer might lead to trouble.
"Well... at this time of the month, you might not be feeling your best."
"Correct answer! I'll help with this," she replied cheerfully.
Kushida turned and walked back toward the others. After turning away, however, her face turned bright red, and her heart pounded.
Was this plan... so I could rest on the ship without suspicion? Did he plan this for me?
Lost in thought, Kushida returned to the Class D group, thinking about how to present the plan in a way that wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings.
After all, Kanda Shuichi's strategy basically meant, "We don't need you; you can go back now," which could dampen everyone's motivation.
Watching Kushida walk away, Kanda Shuichi scratched his head. "Correct answer?" So she agreed to help?
Damn, women's thoughts are impossible to figure out!
"Are you sure your plan will work?"
Chabashira Sae suddenly appeared behind Kanda Shuichi.
"Who knows? This plan was something I thought of on the spot. Even if we don't get extra points, it's fine. Sometimes you have to take bold risks to get good results, right?"
Hearing his confident words, Chabashira Sae's expression turned a bit strange, but she said nothing and quietly walked away.
As Kanda Shuichi was finalizing his bold plundering plan, Class C's Ryuen and Class A's Katsuragi were secretly negotiating.
"How about it? It's a great deal, right? Your Class A is far behind Class B in points. This exam is your chance to close the gap, something you definitely need, right?"
Ryuen presented a school-certified contract. The terms stated that Class C would provide Class A with 200 points' worth of supplies and transfer previously used resources after one day. In return, starting next month, Class A would pay Ryuen 800,000 private points every month.
With 200 class points, each student in Class A would technically gain 20,000 private points monthly, totaling 800,000 points for 40 students. However, since the private points would be paid to Ryuen, Class A would only benefit from the class points increase without personal gains.
With Ryuen's 200 points, Katsuragi could ensure his classmates survived the seven-day wilderness challenge comfortably. More importantly, the additional 200 points would widen the gap between Class A and Class B.
Eager to achieve results, Katsuragi quickly accepted the deal, and most Class A students didn't object. They were desperate for any advantage. Sacrificing private points seemed reasonable if it helped secure a lead over Class B.
However, they misunderstood Ryuen's true intentions. They thought he had given up on Class C's rise to Class A and was only gathering points to achieve the 20 million-point individual graduation option.
Class A's arrogance blinded them to Ryuen's ambitions. Like a cunning snake, he was never satisfied with small gains.
Meanwhile, Class B took a more conventional approach, enjoying the wilderness camping experience without much concern for strategy.
Back at Class D's riverside camp, Hirata explained Kanda's plan to the class, leaving everyone stunned.
"This… this is possible?"
"Wait! Isn't this plan way too reckless?"
"Exactly! If the leader gets identified, we'll lose all our points!"
"But there are so many of us. It's not easy to guess the leader, right? No one would risk losing 50 points just to make a random guess."
"I still disagree. The risk is just too high."
"Sure, the risk is high, but so is the reward! If we succeed, we could deal a huge blow to the other classes and close the points gap in one go!"
The students argued back and forth. Some wanted to play it safe, while others thought taking risks was fine since they were already in Class D and could try again in future exams.
"I trust Kanda's plan. Remember, during the midterm exam, we earned 90 class points thanks to him."
"Yeah, and the extra 50 points afterward were also because of him."
Once Kanda's past achievements were brought up, the opposition went silent.
In a world where results speak louder than words, Kanda Shuichi's success earned him trust. As long as he kept winning, that trust would solidify into faith. But one failure could cause it to collapse entirely.
"Why not give it a try?"
"I think we can trust Kanda too. He's never let us down. Even when Sudou was framed by Class C, Kanda stepped in and resolved it."
Kushida's supportive statement erased any remaining doubts among the students.
"If Kushida-chan says so, I'll trust him too!"
"Same here!"
"Me too!"
As expected, Kushida-chan came through. Hirata couldn't have pulled this off alone.
"So, should we head back to the ship or keep camping?"
The question stumped the classmates once again. After all, compared to the luxurious cabins on the ship, who would want to stay in a cramped tent?
"I'm staying for the camping trip. We have 300 points to spend, so we can easily enjoy the seven days without suffering."
"Exactly! Plus, it's a rare experience, right?"
"Then I'm not going back to the ship either."
At this point, most students decided to stay for the camping trip. The opinions of the remaining few didn't matter much. If anyone suggested returning to the ship now, they'd likely become targets of scorn from the majority.
The results of the previous study sessions finally paid off. While the class wasn't fully united, they were making progress.
From a distance, Kanda Shuichi approached Koenji with a smirk.
"Koenji, looks like your plan to hog all the resources didn't work out."
"No problem!" Koenji replied casually. "Isn't this outcome just as beautiful?"
He walked straight to Chabashira-sensei.
"Sensei, I want a single-person tent!"
His actions didn't go unnoticed, sparking discontent among some classmates.
"If anyone has complaints, keep them to yourselves," Horikita snapped coldly. "Koenji is a key player in this operation. Asking for a single-person tent is perfectly reasonable. Even using a bit more points wouldn't be out of line."
Faced with Horikita's sharp response, the class exchanged uncertain glances but ultimately stayed silent. After all, she was right—they couldn't contribute much themselves. They'd just have to squeeze into the larger tents obediently.
As the mastermind of the plan, Kanda Shuichi also requested a single-person tent. His body couldn't handle being crammed in with others.
The students ordered two large tents and several smaller ones, solving the sleeping arrangements for now.
Next came the issue of toilets. Since they had 300 points to spend, even Ike couldn't argue. They bought a 25-point portable toilet.
When it came to food, Kanda Shuichi took charge of the class's meals. He planned to cook large batches. After doing the math, buying cooking supplies and ingredients was much cheaper than purchasing pre-made meals. It might be more work, but with some help, it would be manageable. Plus, Kanda Shuichi actually enjoyed cooking.
For the heat source, they bought bottled gas, which could be used for cooking and heating water for baths. One tank would last all seven days.
The biggest argument came when discussing water.
"Why not just drink the river water? Do you know how expensive buying water is?"
"We have 300 points, right? Who cares if we spend it all?"
"Even with 300 points, we shouldn't waste them like that!"
*Bang, bang, bang!*
Watching the two sides bicker, Kanda Shuichi was truly annoyed.
"Enough. The river water is fine. If anyone doesn't want to drink it, go ask Chabashira-sensei for bottled water. Also, Ike, drinking raw water is asking for trouble. Can't we filter and purify it first?"
With just two sentences, Kanda Shuichi ended the argument. In his mind, these weren't even problems. The real challenge was spending all their points while securing enough food and water. Without doing that, the resource-raiding plan couldn't begin.
After a long day, by evening of the first day, they had finally spent all 300 points.
In return, D-Class's riverside camp was stocked with various supplies. Food deliveries would arrive daily to keep everything fresh.
By now, about eight hours had passed since they first landed on the island.
Time to begin the raiding plan—starting tonight!
