Chapter 10: She Is Fated To Another
Noah's POV:
I could see regret written on his face as he stepped through the doorway, looking at us.
"Where is she?" he demands a flicker of embarrassment in his eyes.
I placed myself in front of Josie and Gerald, who stood in front of the hallway to Phoenix's room. Their expressions weren't nearly as surprised or frightened as you'd think they would be. Gerald had a protective stance but otherwise seemed unbothered. Josie looked like she was just irritated for being woken up.
I guess they really were used to strange things happening.
"Who are you? Raphael?" I asked after returning to face him, but I already knew the answer.
"I am her future, her mate," Raphael growls, trying to push me to the side.
I say, trying because, without a single thought or consideration, I grabbed him by the shirt, tossed him backward, and threw him to the ground. His body hit the ground with a loud thud.
I looked at the palm of my hand in amusement and then back to Raphael's shocked face.
His eyes narrowed at me as I proceeded to pin him to the ground.
"You wake her up, and I will kill you myself," I hissed at him.
"Too late," a soft voice came from the hallway. Her small form illuminated from the end of the hallway. She reached her small fist to her lips while slowly yawning.
"What is going on?" she asked in a daze before pausing and snapping at me. "Noah, let him go! What are you doing?"
I turn to Raph, realizing I still have his shirt balled up in my fist. I quickly let go of him. Leaving him looking just as confused as before.
I get up quickly, rushing to Phoenix. "Are you okay?" I whisper softly.
"I'm okay, Noah, but if you don't let me go check on my mate, I might not be." She said sleepily, walking toward Raphael.
At that moment, I could puke. Not because I was sick but because I knew the girl I loved was fated for another. I was starting to understand some things, and I had no idea how I was understanding them.
In less than 24 hours, my dreams of marrying this girl were crumpled up and thrown away. It was clear that whatever this link between them was, it would always be more than what she and I had.
Those dreams weren't dreams. They were her past and her future. Even though my need to protect her always came first, it didn't make this scene in front of me any easier.
Raphael:
'How the hell did he overpower me?' Mind linking Jo.
'Alpha, I don't think he is a wolf or human; the closer I was to him, I could sense and smell something different...' Jo mind links me back.
We were frozen, staring at the scene in front of us. I was completely awe-struck as my mate floated across the floorboards toward me.
Was she seriously fucking floating right now? Was all I could think while my wolf cooed and whimpered at the sight of her.
I couldn't blame him. His mushy comments didn't even bother me. Damn, she was something to look at.
Yes, my mind was still reeling over Noah (boyfriend?) being able to throw an Alpha King to the ground but even then, I was completely captivated by her presence.
It was like time had stood still. Shit, did it?
I looked at her parents briefly noticing that they were frozen in the same stance they had been when Phoenix had announced her presence.
"Phoe, please take it easy, don't use any powers here!" The guy I now know is Noah said while desperately lowering her body back to the ground.
I looked at him with gratitude before returning my attention to my mate. I watched Phoe's small glowing form move towards me.
What the hell was happening? I could see the same reaction from Jo when he glanced at me before Noah helped her sit down next to my dumbass, who hadn't left the spot on the floor I was thrown to.
'Oh, she's so tired, she is barely awake... She is so pretty, so perfect...' Atti cooed in my mind.
"Hi" was all I could stammer as I watched her approach me.
"Why are you here, Raph?" She asked as Noah helped her sit on the ground next to me.
Wait, did she call me her mate earlier? My heart fluttered at the thought, and even then, I was in such a daze that I couldn't decide if I had heard her say that or if it was wishful thinking.
Oh Goddess, what is she doing to me?
I knew she had asked me a question, but as I took it in, I wasn't even sure I had a good answer.
I could feel a crackling sensation throughout my entire existence as she leaned her tired face against my shoulder, waiting for my response.
"I was worried that you might not be safe, but I think you were in better hands than I realized," I said, looking at Noah, who was now standing in the corner of the room.
Noah nodded at my comment, but his face looked sickly at this point. Her parents were now next to him, so time, I guess, had started again?
The Moon Goddess was notorious for gifting strong mates to royals, but I knew that Phoenix was more than strong.
What part of me was her other half?
A nervous Alpha wasn't normal.
I had met my match.
