Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Welcome to the Isekai!
"Let's see... Swordsman Talent, Warrior Talent, Mage Talent, Demon Bloodline, Elf Bloodline, and Dwarf Bloodline..." Rozen murmured, thoughtfully stroking his chin as he examined the list of privileges available to him.
The list contained a variety of talents and bloodlines belonging to the creatures of the Frieren cosmology. However, it was important to note that these privileges were limited to the beings found within the "world" or planet where Frieren's plot occurred. Anything beyond that, such as alien beings from the wider universe, was excluded from the privilege list.
So many tempting options… I'm leaning toward the Elf Bloodline. If I remember correctly, there's a rumor that elves in the Frieren cosmology have extremely long lifespans—some say they can't even die of natural causes…
Rozen touched his chin thoughtfully as he considered which privilege to choose for himself. However, after some deliberation, he decided against the Elf Bloodline and chose Mage Talent instead. After all, immortality would be easy to obtain later, thanks to his cheat abilities.
More importantly, the description of Mage Talent caught his attention. It stated that the privilege granted exceptional Genius-level aptitude in magic skills. With that in mind, he chose it without hesitation.
For the others, he decided to assign Swordsman Talent to Saeko since she excelled in kendo, and Archer Talent to Makoto, as it fit his abilities. But for Bocchi…
Hmm, what should I choose for her?
Unable to decide, Rozen thought it best to ask Bocchi for her opinion. However, before asking, he realized it might be better to formally introduce himself to the socially anxious pink-haired girl first.
"Hey, Bocchi! I'm sorry for dragging you into this situation without your consent. By the way, my name is Rozen Itsuki. I'm looking forward to working with you!" Rozen said with a casual wave and a smile.
At the mention of her nickname, Bocchi, her eyes widened in shock before shifting into a terrified and stunned gaze.
H-H-How does he know that nickname?!!!
Bocchi's mind spiraled in panic. To her, Rozen now seemed like the scariest person in the group.
And who could blame her for reacting that way? The nickname Bocchi was something only her family used. Yet somehow, a stranger from another universe knew about it! It was only natural for her to feel utterly terrified of Rozen.
Noticing her reaction, Rozen quickly realized his mistake. He had overlooked a crucial detail that might explain her shock. With the other two members now eyeing him suspiciously, he knew he had to address the situation immediately.
"Ahem. I called you Bocchi because, as the leader, I have access to detailed information and biographies of my team members. I'm really sorry if it came across as rude for me to use your nickname without permission," Rozen explained, rubbing the back of his head with an awkward laugh.
The uneasiness weighing on her seemed to fade after hearing Rozen's explanation. Bocchi let out a small sigh of relief and started to calm down—though, as usual, her nerves quickly resurfaced, leaving her tense and anxious again.
"N-N-No! I-It's alright! Y-You can call me whatever you want! Bocchi is fine too!" Bocchi stammered, averting her gaze while nervously fidgeting with her fingers.
"Good to hear! In that case, I'll call you Bocchi from now on. Let's work well together, Bocchi!" Rozen said warmly.
"M-M-Me too! T-Thank you, Kaichou-san!" Bocchi replied, bowing repeatedly in a flurry of nervousness.
"You don't need to be so formal with me. Anyway, Bocchi, do you understand the organization you're a part of now? If not, I can explain it to you," Rozen offered.
"There's no need for that, Kaichou-san. I already explained everything to her with Makoto-kun earlier while you were, uh… yelling," Saeko chimed in with a faint smirk.
Rozen's face flushed with embarrassment, realizing his earlier outburst hadn't gone unnoticed. He quickly cleared his throat in an attempt to mask his shame before putting on a more serious expression.
"Alright then, let's get straight to the point. Bocchi, I'd like to ask for your opinion now," he said.
Bocchi froze, her anxiety flaring up again. She nervously looked at Rozen, her voice trembling as she asked, "O-O-Opinion on what?"
"Your job or class for the mission. The options are Swordsman, Archer, Mage, Priest, and Warrior. So, is there any class that interests you? Choose one, and I'll assign the privilege that matches your choice," Rozen explained. His words unintentionally drew the attention of Saeko and Makoto.
"Ano, Kaichou-san, what about me and Busujima-san?" Makoto asked, curious as to why Rozen hadn't asked them for their preferences.
"Don't worry. I've already chosen the most suitable jobs for the two of you, which I believe align with your preferences. I selected Swordsman for Saeko and Archer for you, Makoto-san," Rozen replied confidently.
Hearing this, both Saeko and Makoto felt relieved. It was clear that Rozen's choices matched their own expectations perfectly.
"K-Kaichou-san! W-What class did you choose? I-I mean, if it's okay for me to ask?" Bocchi stuttered nervously, as was her usual way.
"Hmm? My class? Of course, it's Mage! I've loved magic since I was a kid. How could I possibly pass up a chance like this?" Rozen answered with enthusiasm. Though he also enjoyed swordsmanship, magic was his true passion, given its versatility and usefulness compared to sword fighting.
Hearing his answer, Bocchi's face shifted into an expression of rare determination. With newfound resolve, she declared, "I-I'll choose Priest class! S-Since this party doesn't have a healer yet, I-I think I can handle it!"
Rozen nodded in approval, smiling warmly at her decision. Although the party wouldn't have lacked anything even without a healer thanks to his own abilities, the addition of a Priest was undeniably a valuable asset.
With that, Rozen finalized the selection of privileges for himself and his team. Once everything was in place, he clicked the confirmation button without hesitation.
In the next instant, a brilliant light erupted, engulfing everyone in the room and leaving them stunned. When the light gradually faded and disappeared, they instinctively opened their eyes, sensing that something fundamental within them had changed.
"Something's changed… I can feel it in my body", Makoto commented, still gazing at his body in amazement.
"I feel it too, as if something has shifted within us," Saeko added, tightening her grip and focusing on the sensation coursing through her body.
This! I've become stronger! So much stronger—many times over!
Saeko's eyes widened in disbelief. She was absolutely certain her strength had grown exponentially. The thought of easily defeating ten versions of her past self filled her with awe.
What an incredible gift… I truly am fortunate to have joined this organization.
Her thoughts were filled with amazement as she glanced at Rozen, who stood quietly with his eyes closed, exuding an aura of calm gratitude.
This newfound power makes me even more determined to save my world from the zombie apocalypse!
Unaware of Saeko's gratitude, Rozen had turned his focus inward, using Great Sage to analyze the changes within his body.
Although he trusted the privilege system, he wanted to confirm exactly what transformations had occurred.
[Answer. A spiritual organ, identified as a 'Magic Vessel,' has materialized and fused with Master's soul. This organ produces energy, commonly known as Mana, and exists in a semi-spiritual state, allowing direct interaction with the material universe via Master's physical body. Its size is roughly equivalent to a golf ball.]
Is there anything else? Beyond just the transformation to match a human from the Frieren cosmology?
[Answer. Additional enhancements include increased raw physical strength, heightened sensitivity to Mana, and enhanced intelligence, all of which have contributed to upgrades in Master's unique skills.]
What?! Are you saying you've improved thanks to this privilege?!
[Affirmative. Several sub-skills have been upgraded, such as 'Thought Acceleration,' now capable of processing at 5,000 times the normal speed, and 'All of Creation,' which can now create any power as long as it is visualized clearly.]
Haha! Incredible… this is amazing!
Unable to contain his excitement, Rozen grinned broadly, his sheer joy unmistakable. His team members, noticing his elation, couldn't help but grow curious.
"Kaichou-san, did something good happen to you?" Makoto asked, tilting his head.
"Of course! I've gotten so much stronger!" Rozen replied with a confident grin. His happiness only reinforced his belief that choosing the Frieren cosmology had been the perfect decision.
"Congratulations, Kaichou-san!" Makoto said with a bright smile, followed quickly by Saeko and Bocchi joining in to offer their congratulations.
"Ahahaha! Thank you, everyone!" Rozen replied cheerfully, nodding as he accepted their kind words.
After a moment, he paused and asked, "Oh, by the way, you've all gotten stronger now, haven't you?" The three of them nodded in agreement.
"Is it because of the privilege you mentioned earlier?" Makoto asked curiously.
"Smart guess! Yes, it's the privilege at work. Speaking of which, aside from enhancing physical strength, do any of you know what other effects your classes have granted you?" Rozen asked, intrigued by the unique perks they might have gained.
The group exchanged glances before nodding, and Makoto spoke first. "For me, one noticeable effect is my vision—it's much sharper now. I can see incredibly far distances," he explained, pointing to his eyes, now free of glasses.
Next, Saeko spoke up. "For me… it feels like intuition, maybe? I can instinctively sense weak spots on anything I look at," she said. Her sharp gaze swept over the group, causing both Makoto and Bocchi to shudder. They couldn't help but feel as though they were being sized up by something deadly and precise.
When Saeko turned her gaze to Rozen, her eyebrows raised slightly in surprise. Her intuition revealed far fewer weak points on him compared to the others.
As expected of Kaichou-san! He's undoubtedly the strongest among us now!
Saeko sighed in admiration, while Rozen, noticing her focused gaze, felt intrigued. Although the sense of danger wasn't as intense as when he had faced a Herrscher, the fact that Saeko's ability could make him feel even slightly threatened impressed him.
"A-A-As for me! I-I can heal wounds… a-as long as they're not too big or fatal," Bocchi stammered nervously, lowering her head as though afraid she might disappoint the group.
Seeing her expression, Rozen immediately clapped his hands and praised her. "That's amazing, Bocchi! And remember, the longer you master your job, the more powerful its effects will become. So don't ever think your job is useless—you're incredible, Bocchi!"
Saeko and Makoto quickly followed Rozen's lead, offering their own encouragement to Bocchi.
"Ah? I-Is that true? Ehehehehe… T-Thank you so much… Ehehe…" Bocchi flushed deeply, clearly flustered but also happy as she laughed softly in response.
With everyone now aware of their abilities, Rozen decided it was time to explain the mission in more detail. Clearing his throat loudly, he drew their attention.
"Alright, we'll be starting the mission soon. Our mission takes place in a magic-fantasy cosmology where civilization is still in the medieval age!" he began.
Rozen went on to explain more about the world, describing the various races inhabiting it. These included the Elves, an immortal race with low desires; Humans, adaptable and versatile but short-lived; Dwarves, master craftsmen; and the Demon Race, monstrous beings devoid of human emotions.
The group listened intently, recognizing the importance of understanding the world they were about to enter.
"Our main objective is to create a lasting influence on an entire planet! The easiest way to do that? Become heroes and defeat the Demon King!" Rozen declared, his words sparking fiery excitement in their hearts.
Being Japanese, they were all too familiar with the classic trope of a hero battling a Demon King. Memories of their chuunibyou childhood fantasies—dreaming of saving the world as legendary heroes—fueled their enthusiasm rather than fear.
"So…" Rozen said, his gaze serious as he addressed the group. "Are you all ready?"
"Ready, Kaichou-san!" Makoto replied confidently.
"Ready!" Saeko added with determination.
"R-R-R-Ready!!!" Bocchi stammered nervously but still managed to respond.
Seeing their resolve—despite Bocchi's lingering hesitation—Rozen smiled and declared, "Then, let's begin the mission!" With that, he clicked to confirm the mission's acceptance.
In the blink of an eye, their surroundings transformed. The grand room they had been standing in vanished, replaced by a lush forest filled with towering trees and vibrant grass stretching endlessly around them.
"Welcome to the Isekai..." Rozen said with a smirk, taking in their new world.
