Chapter 38: Ran Yuming Laboratory
An hour later, the class bell rang right on time.
Ran Yuming gave a brief conclusion, marking the end of the first lesson. He waved his hand and said, "Alright, that's it for today. Class is dismissed."
"..."
After this class, the second-year students had gained significant insights. Each of them had their own understanding of how to become a second-level soul instructor. Their gazes toward Ran Yuming were now filled with respect.
Impressive~
They had encountered many teachers before, but only this Teacher Ran could make them feel so enlightened after just one class.
"No wonder he's so famous. Teacher Ran's lecture was amazing!" Xu Yu's eyes sparkled with admiration.
"Indeed..." Su Luoheng also agreed wholeheartedly.
Before this, he thought his grasp of second-level soul devices was decent. However, after this class, he realized he still had many areas to improve upon. The gap between him and becoming a true second-level soul instructor was not just about soul power. Of course, soul instructor ranks were evaluated based on the standards of the Sun Moon Empire.
Soon, most of the students in the classroom began to leave one after another.
As Su Luoheng packed his things and was about to walk out the door, Ran Yuming suddenly called out to him.
"Stay behind."
"Teacher Ran." Su Luoheng stopped and respectfully greeted him.
Only after the other students had completely left the classroom did Ran Yuming smile and ask, "Do you still remember me?"
"Yes."
"Good, that's what I wanted to hear. Come with me." Ran Yuming nodded with a grin and beckoned Su Luoheng to follow him as he walked ahead.
"..."
Su Luoheng hesitated for a moment but quickly followed. His intuition told him that he should.
Although Ran Yuming didn't appear to be walking fast, no matter how Su Luoheng tried to adjust his pace—whether speeding up or slowing down—the distance between them remained at about two meters.
After leaving the second-year teaching area, Ran Yuming led Su Luoheng toward the advanced teaching section.
After making numerous turns and walking for about fifteen minutes, they finally arrived at a building behind the sixth-year teaching block. Ran Yuming led Su Luoheng inside.
As Su Luoheng glanced around, he asked, "Teacher Ran, is this the senior students' area?"
"Yes."
Ran Yuming gestured for him to enter the elevator and began to explain, "This is the sixth-year teaching building. My personal lab is located here."
In the academy, any teacher at or above the seventh level was assigned a personal lab, usually located within the sixth-year teaching buildings to facilitate their teaching of advanced students.
Although Ran Yuming was currently teaching second-year students, his lab remained unaffected.
"Teacher Ran, why did you bring me here?" Su Luoheng asked.
"You'll see soon enough."
Ran Yuming smiled mysteriously, offering no further explanation.
As they spoke, the elevator stopped on the eighth floor.
"Let's go~"
"..."
Su Luoheng shrugged and continued following behind Ran Yuming.
His intuition told him that nothing bad would happen.
Ran Yuming, still in high spirits, led Su Luoheng down the hallway for another dozen meters before stopping in front of a large metal door.
A sign on the door read: *Lab No. 7*.
Ran Yuming took out his identification card and waved it in front of the door.
"Beep—"
The electronic lock made a soft sound, followed by a flash of white light. Then, the two heavy metal doors slowly began to open.
"Come in," Ran Yuming's voice called out, and Su Luoheng followed closely behind into the lab.
As soon as he stepped inside, Su Luoheng's first impression was that the space was vast—about the size of two classrooms. In the center was a sleek, silver-colored circular experiment table, neatly arranged with various soul devices and rare metals. Despite the numerous items on the table, everything was meticulously organized, giving the room a calm and orderly atmosphere, which felt immediately pleasing to the eye.
Apart from the experiment table, the three walls were lined with bookshelves.
Each shelf was filled with books related to soul devices, as well as works from renowned soul engineers. Every book was systematically labeled, with no exceptions.
The thing that Ran Yuming valued most in this lab was not the soul devices or rare metals but the bookshelves, which were stocked with an array of soul engineering literature he had accumulated over decades. Most of the books here were virtually impossible to find in the general market.
Looking at the sheer volume of books, Su Luoheng couldn't help but ask, "Teacher Ran, have you read all these books?"
"More or less..."
Ran Yuming's hand rested on the bookshelf, a fleeting complex emotion passing through his eyes. "Whenever I had spare time, I'd flip through a few. Over time, I've read most of them."
Upon hearing this, Su Luoheng felt a deep sense of admiration for his teacher.
With nearly a thousand books in the room, it wasn't just about having read all of them—even flipping through them would require an enormous amount of time and dedication.
Given Ran Yuming's status, he wouldn't make such a claim lightly, which spoke volumes about the depth of his knowledge.
No wonder he was so highly regarded at the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineering Academy.
Su Luoheng's reaction didn't escape Ran Yuming's notice. The older man smiled faintly, feeling even more certain about taking Su Luoheng as his disciple.
"Alright, boy. Do you want to know why I brought you here?"
"No," Su Luoheng instinctively replied.
"Okay come in properly, will you?" Ran Yuming clapped Su Luoheng's shoulder, then led the way forward.
Su Luoheng quickly followed.
Ran Yuming led him to the experiment table. With a wave of his wide sleeve, a flash of blue light appeared. In the next moment, three distinct soul devices materialized on the table.
The first was a silver-colored beam soul device.
The second, a red long-blade close-combat soul device.
The third, a blue long-sword close-combat soul device.
Judging by their appearance, all three soul devices seemed to be of high quality, at least second-tier or higher.
"Teacher Ran?" Su Luoheng glanced at the experiment table, unsure of its significance.
"Use your first soul skill to analyze the core arrays and structure of these soul devices, and once you've done that, I'll tell you why I brought you here."
As he spoke, Ran Yuming pointed toward the devices on the table.
Su Luoheng looked at the soul devices and instinctively began to examine them.
This habit had developed from his recent time wandering the streets of Mingdu—whenever he saw a soul device, his first instinct was to check its level.
"..."
"What's wrong? Having trouble?" Ran Yuming looked over, puzzled by Su Luoheng's hesitation.
Su Luoheng's eyes flickered as he glanced at the books on the right and smiled, asking, "Teacher, if I manage to fully analyze these, is there a reward?"
"You sly one." Ran Yuming chuckled, his eyes twinkling. "Have you taken a liking to these books?"
"Yes, I enjoy reading in my spare time. I was wondering if I could borrow a few of your books, Teacher?" Su Luoheng admitted honestly.
"My books are generally not available for loan."
