Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Survival of the Fittest Is the Law of Nature
As Yun Feng spoke, his third spirit ring emerged, radiating with power.
"Third Spirit Ability: Gale Dragon Wings!"
Scarlet wings burst forth from Yun Feng's back, carrying an overwhelming aura. In a single flash, he appeared beside Zhu Zhuqing. With one hand, he caught her mid-air, and with the other, he grabbed the tail of the Scarlet-Crested Phoenix-Tail Serpent.
Under the astonished gazes of everyone, Yun Feng exerted his strength and hurled the serpent back in the direction it came from.
The serpent was flung with such force that it was thrown clear of their encirclement, leaving everyone momentarily stunned.
The entire sequence of events happened so fast that Zhao Wuji and the others didn't have time to react until the serpent had already flown out of reach.
Though displeased, Zhao Wuji held back his frustration upon seeing Yun Feng's intent wasn't sabotage.
Ma Hongjun and Tang San, without missing a beat, bolted after the serpent.
Behind them, Ning Rongrong began her chant:
"Seven Treasures has a name, the second is: Speed!"
Her crisp voice resonated as Tang San and Ma Hongjun felt their bodies grow lighter, their speed noticeably increasing.
However, even with this boost, they couldn't match the serpent's rapid movements. In its home territory, the forest, it was unrivaled in agility.
Yun Feng watched them chase in vain, shaking his head slightly. That should be enough time for Meng Yiran and her grandmother to catch up.
At that moment, a deep voice boomed through the forest:
"You think you can escape so easily?"
Zhao Wuji's third spirit ring lit up as he activated Gravity Enhancement, causing the serpent's body to stiffen momentarily, its speed drastically reduced.
Without wasting time, Zhao Wuji's fourth and fifth spirit rings shone simultaneously. His body leaped into the air with explosive force, landing directly in the serpent's path thanks to the tracking effect of his Position Locking ability.
As the serpent flailed, Zhao Wuji unleashed his Gravity Crush, rendering the creature unable to move despite its slippery form.
In the face of Zhao Wuji's overwhelming power, the thousand-year-old Scarlet-Crested Phoenix-Tail Serpent had no chance. Though it seemed like Zhao Wuji hadn't done much, the sheer force of his abilities left the students in awe.
Tang San, reflecting on his previous confrontation with Zhao Wuji, realized how fortunate he had been. If Zhao Wuji had used this combination of abilities back then, I wouldn't even have had the chance to fire my hidden weapons.
Zhao Wuji grabbed the serpent's head with his massive hand, lifting it effortlessly. He tapped the creature's fleshy crest with his other hand, causing it to pass out instantly. Had Zhao Wuji not been holding back, the serpent might not have survived the blow.
"It's done," Zhao Wuji declared confidently.
The group erupted into cheers, their excitement palpable.
Oscar, barely able to contain his joy, dashed toward Zhao Wuji, his face beaming. At only fourteen years old, the prospect of acquiring his third spirit ring filled him with exhilaration.
Meanwhile, Xiao Wu approached Yun Feng, her head hung low, her large eyes filled with sadness.
Setting Zhu Zhuqing down, Yun Feng addressed Xiao Wu gently:
"Survival of the fittest is the law of nature. If this serpent were stronger than us, do you think it would spare us if we were within its grasp?"
Xiao Wu remained silent, but her pale face and downcast gaze revealed her lingering discomfort.
Zhao Wuji, pulling a short blade from his belt, handed it to Oscar.
"Don't waste time. The longer we wait, the riskier this becomes. Pierce its brain just below the crest, and the spirit ring will be yours."
Oscar, his hands trembling with excitement, accepted the blade. The serpent, now subdued, lay before him like a sacrificial lamb. He could already feel the thrill of obtaining his third spirit ability.
However, just as he was about to strike, Yun Feng stepped forward and pointed to the serpent's injured abdomen.
"Teacher Zhao, I think we should reconsider. This serpent appears to have been hunted by someone else. Look at those wounds—it's clearly been in a fight."
The group turned to inspect the serpent, noticing several distinct injuries along its body. Frowning, they exchanged uncertain glances.
Oscar hesitated, his hand hovering over the serpent, but Zhao Wuji dismissed Yun Feng's concern with a scoff.
"So what? Even if someone else was hunting it, they didn't succeed. If we've caught it now, it's ours."
Yun Feng raised an eyebrow, momentarily taken aback by Zhao Wuji's audacious logic. Just as he was about to argue, his sharp senses caught something.
He stopped mid-sentence, his expression shifting to one of amusement as he waited for the inevitable confrontation.
Seeing Yun Feng fall silent, Zhao Wuji urged Oscar again.
"Do it. Stop dawdling!"
But before Oscar could act, a raspy voice cut through the tension.
"Stop right there!"
Two figures emerged from the forest in the direction the serpent had come from, stepping into the clearing.
The first was an elderly woman with snow-white hair neatly tied back, her posture upright and her eyes sharp with vitality. Despite her advanced age, her skin glowed with a healthy flush, and her presence radiated authority. A long, three-meter staff adorned with a snake head rested in her grip, her six spirit rings oscillating up and down her body.
The second was a teenage girl, around sixteen or seventeen, with short hair and striking brown eyes. Dressed in a tight-fitting outfit that accentuated her athletic figure, she gripped a shorter, two-meter snake-head staff. Two yellow spirit rings hovered around her.
The arrival of the two women startled the group. Oscar and the others were initially alarmed but quickly relaxed upon noticing the elder's six spirit rings.
After all, Zhao Wuji stood before them, his seven spirit rings—three purple and four black—emitting an unmatched pressure.
While the Shrek group found solace in their teacher's strength, the elder's expression changed upon seeing Zhao Wuji. Her confident demeanor faltered,
replaced by a flicker of apprehension as her gaze settled on the black rings of immense power.
