Chapter 5: Paralyzed
When he woke up, he was laid out on the ground. He saw the girl Dream hovering over him, and when he turned his head, he saw the first other Dream, looking like he wanted to help, but he could do nothing. None of them could. Dream could see them talking, but he could hear no noise, nor could he have understood the noises if he had.
Except for Mexican Dream. He reached out a shaky hand to Dream. In it was a white object clutched firmly. Dream had seen this before, and he had put a stop to it. It was some sort of drug. Dream shook his head, but Mexican Dream didn't pull his hand back. Instead he had dropped it suddenly, as if he was disgusted by finding himself holding it.
Now there was an empty hand in front of him. Dream grabbed it, and Mexican Dream pulled him up, onto his feet. He started walking around, and started to feel a little bit better. This time, he heard something.
"You should've left him on the ground. He would have recovered better," said a hissing voice.
The response took a while to come, and once it did, it was a bit hesitating, and rather blunt. As if the one who said it was barely paying attention to the question.
"He... We are Dream. We endure. We don't take time to recover. We strike."
That was the answer. Dream could hear the words now, but he still did not understand their meaning.
He continued to walk in circles.
Then he was attacked. It came from his left side. He rolled left, inside the attacker's range, and swung. His attacker pulled back, and then charged at him again. Dream stepped to the side, and gave a quick jab to make the attacker pull away.
Dream started to wake up a bit more, and began attempting to analyze his opponent, but as soon as he tried, he froze, and all he earned was a hit to his shoulder. So he stopped trying to think. He just fought. He attacked and dodged, ignoring patterns, ignoring everything except his opponent.
And they fought. Slowly, Dream's head began to clear. He began to process things again. But he didn't think about the fight. He just relaxed, and went through the motions. He continued to fight until he realized something. The person he was fighting was Dream. Another Dream. That gave him pause. He froze again, just for a moment, but an incoming blow brought him back to his senses. He dodged the blow, and then twisted around the other Dream to get out of the way of the blows that he knew would come.
He was Dream, and he was being attacked by Dream. How did this happen? He couldn't remember. He tried to remember. The fight was no longer give-and-take. Instead, the other Dream attacked while he just dodged.
And then he did remember. Technoblade had come to save him. And the crown. The crown that brought another Dream. Another Dream, aside from him, aside from Mexican Dream, although he had never thought that he was very similar to Mexican Dream. And there had been one more. A female Dream. He did not know where she had come from, or who she was, other than, of course, that she was also Dream, but she seemed to know Mexican Dream.
The first other Dream was still attacking him, and beginning to get frustrated. So far, Dream had been able to dodge every blow. So the other Dream switched to a more erratic attack pattern. But Dream was still able to predict him. After all, they were the same person.
Then he felt a hand on his shoulder. Its grip was strong, and solid. He probably could not get out of the grip if he wanted too. The hand was also abnormally large.
"I think that's enough for now, don't you, Dream?" the endermen asked. It was phrased like a question, but it didn't really feel like it was one.
"Yes," Dream said, at the same time as the first other Dream said "I suppose so.", and both Mexican Dream and the girl Dream said "Maybe."
The Dreams all looked at one another with confusion, but then they looked at the enderman, and he had a large smile on his face. He had said that just to confuse them. All of the Dreams sighed simultaneously.
