During the Dark Ages

Shuma screamed in pain as the flames ravaged her body and 'soul', and Lily looked at the scene in shock. Undeads couldn't feel pain as they were already dead and their nervous system wasn't functioning anymore. The only reason they could move and control their body was because of the demonic energy in their body that gave them a semblance of life. For an undead to feel pain, you would have to attack their core directly, which was pretty difficult, especially for someone who has been a demon for barely a month. Colin quickly activated his [Stealth] trait and put some distance between himself and Shuma, so that he could recover. Although he didn't know much about the [Hellfire Affinity: Curse of the Burning Soul] ability, he knew it wasn't an ability designed to kill but to cause maximum pain to his opponents. Whatever entity took control of his body, wanted to person on the receiving end of this ability to feel pain that made them want to end their own life, just to satiate their own malice. And that scared Colin a bit.

[Lily, you're up.] Colin said, as hid within the forest a distance away from Shuma, absorbing the surrounding demon miasma to refill his DP.

[Huh.] Lily said surprised, not expecting Colin to say that

[That attack won't kill her, only cause her pain. You need to wound her as much as possible while she's distracted.] Colin explained and Lily immediately jumped into action. She flew towards the still burning Shuma and slammed her staff onto Shuma's knee, but the bone armour only cracked from the force of the strike. Lily was still exhausted from her previous battle and even with Shuma distracted, she didn't have the strength to do any lasting damage. Shuma noticed her and swung her leg, but Lily was able to dodge the attack by a hair's breadth.

"You cursed demon!!!" Shuma roared and a wave of black miasma was released from her body, creating a giant cloud around her that caused all the trees and plants nearby to decay and die. Both Lily and Colin immediately started putting some distance between them and the dark cloud but it just kept expanding more and more, destroying everything in its path.

'Just how much DP does she have.' Colin thought as he flew almost a kilometer and still the cloud seems to be getting bigger. Flying even farther, the cloud soon stopped expanding and actually started to shrink, Colin and Lily had a bad feeling, and while both still in stealth mode, they went back to where Shuma was, and they could see the cloud shrinking into an orb in the palm of her hand.

[Ok so there is good news and life threateningly bad news. The good news is that that undeads little outburst destroyed all the corpses in the area, which means her [Will of the Dead] ability is no longer viable, which means no more extra energy. Oh, and your subordinates seems to have managed to escape the range of the corrosive mist. The life threatening news is that, if that orb touches us, we are dead, no doubt about it.] Lily said, with a bit of fear in her voice. It wasn't the first time she was faced with a life threatening situation, but the previous times she was in the underworld, where her mother or siblings could bail her out. Here, there was no one she could truly rely on.

"Come out, come out where ever you are little demon." Shuma said with a crazed look on her face, her eyes have become completely red and she had a deranged, bony smile on her face, which sent a chill down Colin's spine.

"Fine, you won't come out on you own. Then I'll just have to kill your friend." Shuma said and her face turned towards where Lily was hiding. Lily immediately tried to escape, but her fate was sealed. Shuma reared back her hand to throw the orb and Colin jumped towards her to somehow stop her.

'No, no, no!!' Colin screamed in his mind as time seemed to slow down. He could see Shuma's hand moving forward as she prepared to throw the orb, he could feel a burning sensation in his chest as the demonic rune expanded, and out of the corner of his eye, he could see a golden object moving towards Shuma.

*Whirrrrr*

*Splash*

*Splat*

A golden lance rotating at high speeds appeared out of nowhere and cut cleanly through Shuma's hand, causing it to fall to the ground, but the orb stayed afloat midair.

"What the fuc-" Shuma tried to say, but suddenly, she was encased in a golden coffin

[Colin, catch.] Bartus said through [Telepathy] and Colin could see a golden sword heading his way and quickly caught it

[That should be good enough to pierce through her armour. That coffin won't hold her long, so-] But before he could finish, all of them heard cracking sounds and black mist poured out of several cracks in the coffin, quickly enveloping the coffin.
