Chapter 23: Chapter 23:Blitzkrieg 3
"Fire! Fire!"
Fear spreads like wildfire among the soldiers on the wall, not that they are cowards, as any normal person would have the same reaction.
*Boom* *Boom* *Boom* *Boom*.
These were not explosions, but rather the noises generated by the charge of a certain creature. It was Lansseax, the ancient dragoness who charges at full speed towards the gates.
Arrows bounce off its scales like little toys, while crossbow shots can't even leave a mark.
"R, R, RUN!"
"Move out of the way, move out of the way!"
"Move out of the way!
Shouting at each other like headless chickens, they start pushing against each other in an attempt to escape the impact zone.
Enjoying the situation, Lansseax's charge seems to slow down, increasing the soldiers' hopes of escape and brutality towards their comrades.
*Boooooom!*
What had to happen, naturally ended up happening. Lansseax with his dragon body commanded to blow up the entire main gate, causing that whole area of the wall to fall and leaving the city open for the outside forces.
...Kristoff pov…
"Sir, shouldn't we stop her?"
"You think we can, just look at her... Tiche needs to be warned."
It wasn't an exaggeration to say that that dragoness has gone mad, but you can't take credit for making things much easier either.
"Hahaha, well... I'm leaving, I have to start taking over the city."
"Wait, Max! Don't let me deal with them!"
Shouting at my good friend Max, he just ignores me and keeps going deeper into the troops that are going to start the first assault on the city.
He has sold me out, now I have to deal with the two crazy women. Well, actually all of them are crazy, from the first one to the last one... Poor him who is going to have to put up with them.
"Umm... Are you thinking something inappropriate, Kristoff?"
It was as if an icy current was running down my back, as if a beast was watching me, as if I had a knife under my neck. Yes, this is Tiche, the one who has been by the Lord's side the longest.
"Nothing of the sort Mrs. Tiche."
"Flattery is unnecessary, I am still nothing of Aldrich's. By the way, do you need me to stop her?"
"The orders are to take the city, not destroy it completely. Your help will be welcome."
It's not about not having honor, only that I accept that they are crazy and you don't try to reason with crazy people... Even more so if one can murder you without you realizing it and the other can crush you under her claw.
"I'll be right back."
Watching Tiche disappear right in front of my eyes, I can only accept that it was the right decision not to get in the middle of all this.
Leaving that aside, Tiche's appearance here makes it clear that everything has been resolved in the upper echelons of the city, so now it's time to take control of the city.
"Troops are ready!"
"For Leyndell!"
"Let 's do it!"
Equipping me with Leyndell's heavy helmet, I raise my voice to the sky and in response I get angry cheers from the troops.
"Raise the banners, let them know what's coming their way!"
The banner stands confirmed by a silvery golden Tree, while a dark moon is encircled between its branches. From the roots emerges another golden golden Tree as if it were its shadow, between the branches of this new tree is the shadow of a trapped eagle. To finish the background is completely black and you can see in gold the Circle of Elden behind it all.
"Just like our Lord's ambition that encompasses all of The Midlands, we must demonstrate our strength to be worthy."
Boc the seamstress had done quite well in the creation of the new banner, a creation that demonstrates our Lord's ambitions.
"By Leyndell and by the Lord of the Circle!"
"By Leyndell!"
"For the Lord!"
Under this state of pure euphoria and ignoring the battle raging between Tiche and Lansseax, I begin t o lead the troops towards the city.
...Aldrich pov…
"He has incredibly stood me up, it was expected, if I didn't let him unleash his wrath..."
Looking through the window panes, I can notice how the last pockets of resistance are beginning to be suffocated.
These resistances are almost entirely in the noble areas, it seems that the change of government does not suit them very well, although the lower sectors are more fickle.
Why is there this chaos even when it brainwashes everyone? The thing is that pyromancy wasn't so perfect, it has a time limit and to extend it the caster must remain in control of the pyromancy details.
"Luckily I had that catch though."
The brainwashing was not unlimited, but the implanted idea was, making most of them follow my wishes unconsciously.
The bad thing is that those who were strong-willed avoided being controlled, while also those with desires at odds with mine.
"You said something, my lord."
"Nothing Frederick, how long before it's all over?"
Frederick is the butler of the place, as well as the one who truly controls everything behind the scenes. Yes, he who owned the city was merely a pig in captivity and Frederick is in charge.
"As expected, the last pockets of uprisings belong to the noble sectors. Still we have managed to take 80% of such a sector, thanks to the numerical majority and the surprise of the first attack."
This man has a head on his neck, something rare, as here it seems that muscles are appreciated more than intelligence.
Having found such a hidden gem, I obviously wouldn't leave him under the control of imperfect pyromancy, so I did the easy thing and used a Seductive Branch on him.
"We can't keep wasting time and soldiers, he should already be advancing elsewhere. Frederick, we'll use your plan."
"It will be my honor."
Letting out a clearly insidious smile, Frederick begins to walk around the room that once belonged to the lord of the city, only to return to me with a map.
It was a complete map of the city, which should be treated as a strategic document. On that map is information about the surface and what lies beneath it, different points of interest, etc.
"It was already clear to me that the nobles would be the problem if I wanted to take the city. So, I was always ahead of them and their reactions."
"Fine, you can use the troops in the city as you wish."
It wasn't that I simply didn't want to solve this problem, but that when I leave I must leave someone in charge and he is the best choice.
Obviously I can't just choose someone insidious and cunning, he must also have charisma with the masses and know how to command troops.
"I will pass this test."
"I hope so, I don't want to have to look for someone else."
This is the first time I have been with someone under the control of the seductive Branches for so long. They still seem to be the same, they just have an overflowing "Affection" for me personally.
With all said and done, I let Frederick set off to get it all over with. In the meantime, I'm going to relax and watch the show from a distance.
