Chapter 22: Chapter 22:Blitzkrieg 2
"Not for nothing did it gain recognition as the most prosperous city in the south."
Leaning against Lansseax's scaly back, I look down at the city that was once the most prosperous in the south.
In my memories this huge city should not exist, but I have long since stopped trusting them and just accept whatever happens.
"Don't be so surprised, it used to be much better. The disconnect with Liurnia seems to have affected it quite a bit."
"Natural, border cities always have a connected economy on both sides of the border."
The large city we are flying over, is the one built around the Dectus elevator, a purely commercial and transit city.
If I had to describe it with a sentence such as:House of cards, that's how fragile the situation is. There is an inner city filled with opulence, while another ten times as large filled with poverty.
"All that doesn't matter now, where do you want to descend? I vote for that shiny building."
"Just for the gold…"
"Not at all. I don't care about that metal itself, but what it represents."
I had forgotten, the first fans of gold were not Marika and her progeny, but the dragons under the command of the dragon King Placidusax.
Why would dragons be fans of the golden color? Well, that dragon King was actually the first Lord of the Circle, but not the current one, but the first one, which was more primitive and savage.
Obviously and just like the current Elden Circle, the ruler of everything behind the scenes was clearly the Great Will.
But then the Great Will wanted something new, to end that savage era and make way for a more orderly one. So he did what every great god does when you no longer serve him, he basically changed it to something newer.
"Aldrich, Aldrich... Where are we going to land!"
"What are you asking me for... We're already here!"
Looking at the soldiers speeding up the stairs, I can only groan and accept that while I was lost in thought, Lansseax did his own thing.
"I just wanted to see your reaction, now what do I do with you guys? I burn you with a roar, maybe rip you apart with my claws, though maybe it's better just to crush you?"
It was extremely interesting, seeing how Lansseax could say such macabre things in that voice. Not that it was weird to notice that, but it was the strangest thing about his whole appearance.
An imposing dragon body that demands respect, fierce eyes that seem to pierce your soul, and a young voice with a certain tenderness.
"Jajaja!"
"Why are you laughing, you're laughing at me, Aldrich!"
Rays of red began to emerge from Lansseax's scales, it was a clear sign that he was preparing to unleash his wrath.
Such an attack would do nothing to me if I take the necessary measures, but I cannot allow it to eliminate our friends here.
Noticing that Lansseax doesn't intend to stop, I make my scepter appear from the inventory and rest it on his skull, thus stopping his tantrum.
"You've already calmed down."
"Yes... I've already calmed down."
"Perfect, now, let's see... It was something such as
This is one of the new knowledge I gained the first time I used a spell, something perfect for controlling large crowds and not relying so much on seductive Branches.
Stopping wandering my thoughts, I watched as the pink colored orb rose into the sky, only to explode into dozens of smaller orbs which entered the bodies of the soldiers.
"Take control of the castle, the surrounding buildings and the important people in them."
"By your orders my lord!"
Shouting in a fanatical voice, the soldiers begin to descend the stairs at full speed, eager to comply with my words.
Satisfied with their action, I give Lansseax a few blows with my center, to make him rise into the air and he did so despite his arrogance.
"You act surprisingly obedient when he treated you rudely, is that a dragon thing?"
"There is no shame in following the mighty, it could even be considered an honor and besides I understand when it's a serious moment or not."
"Quite a logical answer. Let's forget that, time to get on with the plan.
Raising the Royal Carian Scepter towards the sky, I begin to cast pyromancy, albeit in a supercharged form of energy.
Just like last time, a pink orb forms above my scepter, though this one is nearly ten times larger and continues to increase in size as it rises into the sky.
"Isn't it too strong? With such an ability, you can easily take control of everything!"
His words seem to be ecstatic, I'm sure if I look into Lansseax's eyes, they must be glowing.
"Not at all, a relatively good mage can undo this pyromancy with ease. Ya if we're talking about someone like Ranni, Rennala, Sellen, Roger... This is just child's play."
"You're boring, Aldrich."
"I just told you the truth. I didn't know you had a desire to conquer the world or anything."
Talking to Lansseax while we're still in the sky, I notice that finally the pyromancy has reached beyond its limits, making it unstable and quite volatile.
Without hesitating for a second longer, I let the pyromancy explode and split into hundreds perhaps thousands of tiny pink orbs, which fall like a shower of stars over the city.
"Conquering the world, no thanks."
"So, wait... You felt happy because I could do it. How much can you all worship the force? Don't answer that, I already remembered Placidusax."
"I can sense that you're thinking something bold. There was never anything strange there, despite loving each other as a family, the hierarchy is quite strict. The strong rule."
Quite understandable, the dragon race comes from the time of the primitive Elden Circle, where only strength was the true law.
Accepting that the worship of strength, family and the golden is quite ingrained in dragons, I simply leave this topic as I notice that the chaos down there is starting to calm down.
"Let's go down, it's time to start the third phase."
"In the end I couldn't do anything, I wanted to at least let out a roar of fire."
While it's interesting to see a depressed dragon, it feels rather unnatural on Lansseax.
"The real action hasn't started yet, when it does, you'll be the spearhead in the attack."
"I hope so, I want to take out all the anger I've been holding in."
Affirming with his draconic head, I feel a slight dizziness from the sudden movement.
"Not that you had accepted that I'm stronger and I can do whatever I want to you"
"Sure, but that doesn't take away from the unacceptability of the situation. I'm an ancient dragon, how do I end up like this."
Ignoring Lansseax who has started ranting, I begin to consider if all dragons are this complicated... No, it seems to me that only Lansseax succeeds at this extreme.
