Chapter 6 The Strong is Respected 6

Lu Yemo spoke without any mercy, and when the second lady heard those words, it felt like a slap on her face. The sting made her face feel hot and painful.

The maids and servants standing there were a little frightened upon hearing this. However, they had always known that the second lady was not a good person, so they weren’t entirely surprised.

They hadn’t expected this seven-year-old girl to be so audacious as to confront the second lady on her very first day back home.

“Where is my quarters?” Ye Mo asked indifferently, looking at the three people who remained silent.

“This…” The housekeeper glanced fearfully at Ye Zheng.

He was angry that Yemo had killed his nephew, but he didn’t dare to cross the line. Moreover, if he revealed the story of the small old courtyard, Yemo would be even more furious.

He was in a quandary for a moment.

“Have you lost your tongue?” Yemo’s face turned cold when none of them responded. “Did you know I was returning today but failed to arrange suitable accommodations for me?”

“No… no.” The housekeeper stammered, fearing Yemo’s wrath. “The Second Madam arranged the Wutong Courtyard for Miss.”

Upon hearing the words “Wutong Courtyard,” Ye Zheng’s expression became visibly uneasy.

The Wutong Courtyard was in a dilapidated state, worse than the lodgings for the servants. He had asked the second lady to arrange a place for Yemo to stay, but he hadn’t expected her to assign such a substandard accommodation.

“Wutong Courtyard?” Yemo sneered when she heard that. “The Second Madam is in charge of the entire General’s Mansion, yet she arranges accommodations for the daughter of the General’s Mansion returning home that are worse than where the servants live. I wonder how the Second Madam herself would feel about living in such conditions. What do you think?”

“I…” Ye Zheng was confronted not just with the matter of the murder but also this issue. The second lady had never felt so enraged before.

She had expected that this little girl would still be as timid and cowardly as before, unable to bite back, and she had planned to handle her accordingly. However, in just four years, this child had transformed into something entirely different.

Not only was she unmanageable, but she was also exceedingly confrontational.

What had gone wrong?

Before the second lady could say anything further, Ye Mo looked at the housekeeper and stated, “I am a concubine of the General’s Mansion. Where do you think I should be accommodated?”

The housekeeper was relieved to hear this because he could arrange the accommodations based on her preference.

But this young lady was terrifying. Could she truly be just a seven-year-old child?

Ye Zheng scrutinized Ye Mo closely. There had been some changes since she was three years old, but they were not drastic. He could still see traces of her past self.

However, her big, sharp eyes were now filled with spirit, a stark contrast to their previously dull appearance. This daughter had indeed changed.

Furrowing his brow, Ye Zheng turned to the housekeeper and said, “Assign the Jade Building to the lady.”

Upon hearing Ye Zheng’s decision, the housekeeper sighed in relief. However, just as he was about to speak, Ye Mo interjected, “Daddy, I want the Yuhe Courtyard.”

As soon as she uttered those words, Ye Zheng’s expression turned slightly grim. Even the housekeeper was taken aback, and the second lady’s face underwent several transformations.

“Isn’t it possible?” Ye Mo crossed her arms and continued, “The Yuhe Courtyard was originally meant for young ladies and young masters. My mother gave birth only to me, and I am the sole direct descendant of the General’s Mansion. Or should I say, it was originally intended for direct descendants to reside in. So, who are the low-status individuals living there now?”
