 Commentary on Chapter 37. The Demon in the Ice.

Chapter 37

Ten months had passed since Rick and Rani had begun their training with Atlante. The progress in their strength was gigantic, especially for the younger of the mages, who was already very strong, but after training with the dragon was able to even scare Eros when he exhaled flames from his mouth. At first the titan thought that he had become a dragon slayer, but the dragon refuted his words. The dragon had only hardened the boy's internal organs so that he had no more weaknesses to fire, and also helped to strengthen his flames, which were not weak.

Roni didn't have the same talent as Rick, but he was able to increase his resistance to fire, of course he couldn't breathe out the flame, but it was much stronger.

Eros also did not stand idly by and during these months, was able to break through to the level of a master in runes and the first thing he did was to put a set of runes on each of the parts of the clothes: increasing the speed of absorption of ether from the air, resistance to the elements, as well as increasing the volume of magical power. He also made two rings from the armour of a demon that had once been defeated and absorbed by Eros, one of which he added a rune to increase the radius of detection, and the other to muffle the sounds around the owner of the ring. For the others, he also prepared a set of clothes with a full set of runes, and Kagura a katana forged by one of the titan smiths using the best steel Eros had. After that, he inserted the lacrimas of wind and fire into the hilt of the blade, as well as runes that strengthened the blade's strength and a weakened version of the rune of absorption that was on his dagger. But the last rune took up almost all the space on the blade and the others he could not apply, but even this made Eros sweat a lot, because at his level he was able to squeeze out of himself only 35% of the power of that rune. It made him wonder what kind of monster had put it on the dagger and who had created it in the first place.

Basically such a strong jump in runes, Eros was able to get, only because of the memory of the demon, which is slowly filtered by the red power and transferred to him. This phenomenon titan noticed only seven months ago, when he was able to easily put a third rune on the object, and before he could barely two could put and that crookedly. And in all that time, he had only been able to absorb 35% of Astaroth's knowledge.

During these ten months he "earned" about twenty million. Of course, it could have been better if the titan hadn't been distracted by the runes and Kagura.

About the business of destroying the village and kidnapping the children, it hadn't progressed at all. Those bastards hadn't shown up once in ten months, which suggested that the Rune Knights or the council were leaking information, and even if they waited another year, there would be no results. Because of this, the council ordered the mission to end and all knights to return to the ranks. And something told Eros that they would not appear in Fiore again.

The next day, after saying goodbye to everyone, Eros left his crew and went on a free voyage. And the titan's next destination was a frozen demon that was ten kilometres away from Margaret's town.

He knew very little about the demon, because Eros had heard about it while he was visiting the magical council office, when two knights were discussing the changing of the guard around the statue and he was interested in it. It would be a good idea to absorb this demon as well, then the red power in his body would be stronger and perhaps the amount of black magic power he could use would be greater.

When Eros was still in his inner world, he had studied how the fog and the red barrier worked and he was slightly surprised. The fog acted as a sieve that let that terrifying magical power pass through it, getting rid of all the negative factors, and the red one acted as a repository and the stronger it got, the more it could hold.

In those moments when Eros tried to use that magic through force, he was taking a great risk. After all, it was impossible to predict what would happen if those creatures left the pond and that nothing good Eros was sure.

So after a bit of work Eros made the red energy into a vault where the safe black magic power was stored....

It took Eros and his team a week to get from Sun Village to Margaret, but now it took him only an hour.

Already ten kilometres away from his destination, the titan saw a large block of ice. He sped up and in a minute he was already standing in front of the statue.

In order not to be spotted, Eros switched on invisibility, suppressed his magic power and used the ring to remove all sounds around him. So that he would not be detected by the patrolling squads that were guarding the statue.

Through the ice, a large dark blue humanoid figure could be seen. It had a large torso and two large scaly arms. Its legs resembled those of a bird, with spikes located at the back of them. The demon had long dark hair resembling a mane, and a pair of horns pointing upwards.

"Really a demon..."- A satisfied smile appeared on his face. Climbing on top of the demon's head, so as not to be noticed by the knights below who might interfere with the takeover, he placed his hand on the ice and slowly began to use the Power of Destruction, destroying the ice.

But still, one thing really surprised Eros, the ice was very strong, so much so that he had to exert effort to move forward.

"Whoever froze it was very strong... but not omnipotent!"

When the titan had a small thin layer left, the ice suddenly reacted very strangely, as if it was trying to stop the titan by freezing his hand, but Eros easily destroyed it.

"Strange..."- increasing the pressure again and when Eros was close to the demon, a memory popped into his head... He saw a grown woman with short dark purple hair and the same eyes, she was wearing a light brown jacket with a black collar, a red t-shirt and jean-like trousers.

She was standing in front of the very same demon and all around her was a burning city and the demon kept on destroying it, letting out beams from its mouth. She was saying something to the two boys behind her back, but Eros couldn't hear her words. The next moment, the action changed, she stood with her arms crossed in front of her, three magical circles appeared around the demon and when the woman spread her arms to the sides, her body was covered with blue magical energy and rays burst out from it, which began to freeze the demon... The next moment, he saw the sad face of the woman who looked at him while her body disintegrated in a white glow... At the last moment, Eros saw three children, two boys and a girl....

"So that's it..."- Eros looked at the ice that stopped freezing him with a sad smile and he slowly removed his hand, "Sorry, I didn't know you wanted to destroy it yourself," the titan stroked that ice fondly, "Hey, how about joining my guild?

But the ice didn't react to his words in any way and quickly rebuilt the hole.

- I'll leave it here," he took out a dagger and started to draw something on the ice, it took him five minutes to complete his work, "When you completely absorb its power and life, I will come back and help you, but in return you will be obliged to join my guild, do you agree Ur? - she reminded him very much of himself, for the sorceress had done the same thing he had once done and it made him sympathise with her. This woman he really sympathised with her character.When he touched the ice, he closed his eyes and sat like that for about ten minutes, and when he opened them again, a slight smile played on his lips.
